President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Luciom, do you want to try and explain how moving budget from citizen services to military forces that have already been deployed on American soil against US citizens is a reduction in power?

Do you want to argue that this didn't already happen?

Given you are usually rational, can you elaborate for me how the power of the executive to intervene on public education nationwide is expanded by gutting the DoE?can you elaborate for me how the power of the executive to intervene with environmental regulations nationwide is expanded by gutting EPA?can you elaborate for me how the power of the executive to influence third worl

You consistently conflate reducing the size of the regulatory state with reducing the power of the president. They are two different things, no matter how many times you attempt to blur the distinction. This has to be deliberate.

Does Luciom or Bahbah want to argue that Fox News isn't currently a state ran propaganda machine?

Of course it is deliberate

Iranian-American perhaps, but I would be shocked is he is an Iranian citizen posting from Tehran.

I thought he was an Iranian immigrant who's probably living in America years, possibly since he's a kid, but I thought he'd stated he was actually from "The Middle East" or "ME" (I forget which terminology he used) ages ago, so I assumed he was an immigrant, probably naturalised.

Nope.

I was born in the US to two Iranian immigrants who were citizens at the time of my birth

Yes, previously the executive branch was following the directions of congress, now they can simply refuse to follow the direction of congress. Furthermore, if you previously did not have power to interfere with the personnel of independent agencies and you interfere with that, then that’s an additional power.

Giving up things that were given to you legally and explicitly by congress interferes with their power to duly pass legislation. Now congress can pass laws and the executive can simply refuse. That’s an expansion of power. Now congress has been frustrated in its abilities to pass laws.

Looks like some folks will be fired soon.

A group of 287 scientists and current and former NASA employees has issued a declaration lambasting budget cuts, grant cancellations and a “culture of organizational silence” that they say could pose a risk to astronauts’ safety.

I don’t think it’s a hard concept to understand either. They still have the power to regulate, they are just choosing not to. Meanwhile, other powers have been expanded or clarified to favor the executive.

by Luciom

I didn't claim any dollar was saved. But cutting taxes isn't an increase in the power of governmnt either. Government doesn't do MORE STUFF after you pass the tax cuts.

Have you ever heard of “debt”?

by coordi

I can only imagine Luciom watching Game of Thrones and noting to friends that no one should have been concerned about Daenerys accumulating power or abusing power given the modest size of the regulatory state in Westeros.

by Rococo

Nope.

My bad so cheers for the clarification.

by Didace

Also, as an aside, in regards to your notional "Watermelon Eaters". A high school in a town in Texas has the nickname "Cottonpickers". What do you think of that?

Not much, what do you think?

by Trolly McTrollson

Not much, what do you think?

He is citing that example because it originated in a Hispanic farming community and apparently was not intended as a reference to slavery.

Daenerys was the only person with nuclear weapons. There is no regulatory framework to contain someone who is much more powerful than anyone else.

I would have been team the spider trying to get her assassinated ASAP, because she was the only one with the nuclear codes (other couldn't control the dragons) so an existential threat to everyone else.

And ofc she trying to help the "poor and weak", and that didn't make any difference, it actually made her even more dangerous.

She also sequestered massive quantities of property so not exactly a good example of an evil rightwing person, rather explicitly a social justice warrior with personal nuclear weapons: hard to think of anyone being more threatening for others than that.

by GTO2.0

Have you ever heard of “debt”?

Yes, it reduces government power because it constrains government

by coordi

Not more than CNN or the NYT have been every time democrats are in power.

Normal partisan media

You either are trolling or there is the opposite of a magnetic attraction between you and "the point." My comment obviously had nothing to do with whether a fictional character in a fantasy universe was right-wing or left-wing by contemporary standards.

It seems like an incredibly tedious gotcha that doesn't change my opinion about the propriety of naming a team "The Redskins."But maybe there's more to it than that. I'm sure it wasn't just a halfassed attempt to provide cover for racist idiots crying over the loss of Chief Wahoo, and Didace will be happy to explain whatever point he's making.

The regulatory state is one of the most invasive and important domestic powers of the executive (and a completly unconstitutional one at that).

Reducing that is a reduction of the powers of the executive.

Anyway trump also reduced foreign aid and participation in international organizations.

And funding education bullshit and basic research isn't the regulatory state either. Trump reduced that as well.

In this same very thread you guys complained of cuts. Every cut is a direct objective reduction in executive power.

Sure it matters, it got flak 60 years ago by Native Americans and 30 years ago by everyone else, so it's hardly the modern incarnation of "woke" and you need to up your troll game.

He got flak by leftists and he never gave a ****.

Then after decades of a rightwing business owner not giving a **** about radical leftist opinion, all major companies he dealt with threatened him in a coordinated way to fulfill leftist wishes.

I can't say why because according to cordie it's a bannable offense.

But that's what happened

No worries. We can just search your extensive back catalogue if we want to know how you would answer this question or any other question.

Turns out that businesses can't ignore the desires of their customer base, sorry to be the first to tell you this.

Isolationism also is not a proxy for reduction in the power of the presidency.
