I think its blatantly obvious there is a strong link between advanced education and advanced critical thinking
When people with advanced degrees overwhelmingly can sus out that the Republicans have largely been spewing endless nonsense for the last 10 years it basically becomes indesputable

Yes. And smart people often delude themselves into thinking they know more than they do about areas outside their expertise.
Also, it depends on what the values and preferences of the smart person are. An evil smart person will be capable of more evil things than an evil dumb person. So it becomes a wash there.

True, but some political views do mean that you're not intelligent, at least as applied to particular politicians.
For example, anyone who believes that Trump cares about them, or about anyone but himself, cannot possibly be intelligent. Same thing for anyone who thinks he is sincere, honest, capable, or even a good businessman.
