Can’t sit at a table because there’s a transfer, no cards dealt yet
There’s a new table called, I’m on the list, but get there a few minutes late. Players are still waiting for their chips, 6 people seated. They’ve already drew for the button. I go to sit down, but I’m told there’s a transfer list so I can’t sit at this table because it’s already started so now the transfer list is active. No cards have been dealt. Is there an official rule for this or is it a house rules kind of thing?
Seems crazy to me to give preference to a transfer list before any cards have even been dealt.

House rule
Maybe they are trying to solve the game of chicken that erupts when they call a new game and everyone on the list wants to wait until the last possible moment to move tables so the new game takes a million years to get started.

Seems crazier to give preference to a new player rather than someone who's already in the room playing
The house rule is probably once they select the BTN position of all players who are there then the Transfer list takes precedence over the Wait list. It is understandable but frustrating.
At Foxwoods in their 2/5 NL games they typically have a must move game when they open a new table. So the Transfer list wouldn't apply.
However I have been on transfer lists and they have sat down a player off the wait list (to a non-must move table) and then when I saw it happen and went to the Floor I was told that since the player had already played one hand I couldn't have his seat. Lol. This happened at Foxwoods and if I remember correctly once at the Borgota as well.
So here I can see why they have it set up this way. And while it is frustrating for you (because new tables always have weaker players than tables that have been running for a while) just understand it from the perspective of players on the transfer list. Next time don't be late when they are opening a new table...
