i mean, it's a really dumb "scandal" considering that he didn't even get in, even though his dad was a prof there or whatever. but conservatives are the kings or really dumb manufactured fake scandals...

He didn't get in?!? I did not hear that previously mentioned. Maybe he's not a smart chip off the old block.

I wonder how anyone even thought to look at his application there, or why it even still existed. Do colleges really keep all their old rejected application materials?

by Victor

its insanely dumb esp considering the way prospective college students are coached to embellish their accomplishments and all that.

yep

and one interesting part is the NYT using leaked hacked data from a race scientist liar (redundant?) to go after Mamdani.

yeah the nyt happily continuing to discredit themselves was def the best part of it, basically indistinguishable from the ny post these days

man, you should just read the linked articles. all of this is documented.

no, he didnt get into Columbia. fwiw, his Dad was a professor there at the time.

and the NYT got ahold of his application bc a white nationalist who either hacked Columbia or received the hacked records leaked it to the NYT. like, thats a major part of the story!

so, I would encourage you to look it up. theres a lot of stuff out there.

oh as for him not being a smart cookie, well, the New York Post followed up with the bombshell that he only scored in the 97th percentile on his SAT.

Would

Elbows incredibly round. Pass 😀

no it wouldnt have made sense. African American or black has certain connotations in the USA.

but that a 17 year old may have been slightly disingenuous on a lol college application possibly with the intention to give himself an advantage is the least deplorable part of this story.

What are the more deplorable parts?

I wasn’t saying technically he’s African American. I said it would make sense for a person from Africa to mistakenly identify themselves as African American

You are basically “both side”ing libs for saying this scandal is dumb while calling the scandal dumb

I prefer you to give me the scoop, so thanks.

It's still surprising to me that someone thought to look for an application to a school he didn't attend. And somewhat that they still had records of the rejected application, but then it was only about 15 years ago and would have been scanned into the computer system then. My rejected applications from the 1980s should have long ago disintegrated.

Now I wonder why he didn't get in.

Because their acceptance rate was like 3.5%

speaks to how weak the oppo file on him must be if the nyt thought it was a good idea to disgrace themselves with this literal nothingburger huh

Maybe they have nothing. Maybe there is something better they are saving for November. But given he is going to be going up against Silwa and Adams, 2 very poor candidates, not sure it really matters.

he moved to the states when he was 5. him spending his first 5 years in Africa doesnt really make sense for him to make that mistake. I gotta think that he was well versed and immersed in American culture. but there are plenty of other reasons why a teenager from that era would do it though.

if they had anything good i think they would have used it in the primary. they seemed to think that the whole he doesn't like israel thing was gonna get him (lol). from here on out i'm guessing they'll just make **** up, and if that doesn't work maybe take him out

or they just destroy his mayorship like they did with Kucinich. but most likely they just convince him to become another AOC/Bernie type sheepdog that funnels people to the lol genocidal Democratic party.

It is cute you guys are all playing babe in the woods. But we all lived through that era. And "gaming" college entrance applications in this way was very prevalent at the time, and no one cared.

I actually had an "Indian" friend in high school who grew up in Kenya (as part of the upper middle class Indian community there) and ultimately went to Yale.

I dont have the slightest clue what demographic box he clicked, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if it was "African American," and no one would have cared if he did.

I literally just posted that he was most likely trying to give himself an advantage on admissions.

When exactly was this "era"? It was only 15 years ago and I know nothing about what applying to exclusive universities was like when I was 40.

I never heard of anyone doing that in the 1980s. If I had, maybe I would have gone to one of those.

lol rightwingers are complaining on FOX and other places that James Gunn, the director of the new Superman movie, said that his film,

“Superman is the story of America. An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost."

And they're UPSET about this sentence. Why, I have no idea. Superman came from another planet. So, by definition, he is an immigrant. What's the problem??

And then he basically says he'd like more kindness in the world.

God no! Let's not have THAT!

****ing idiots. All of them.

I welcome Dominic as a Politics contributor.

But more than just an immigrant, he's an alien. Literally. And an illegal one at that.

When 50 year old dudes are cancelling Snow White because the uppity latina actress says something they don't like you know they have lost the plot

I wonder if any MAGAs can even comprehend what is likely going on here. Especially the ones who complain about Nancy Pelosi being rich.

by coordi

That is insane. Is there any comparison like that historically though? It seems wild but if that’s normal patterns then it’s not as bad.

It would make sense why they keep announcing tariffs and then calling them off.

That doesn't even need to be the reason why. It's very possible that Trump just changes his mind all the time, then lets his inner circle know a little while before he makes the announcement. Those guys call their buddies with the inside information.

Of course, it also could be deliberate on Trump's part. It's often tough to determine when he is acting in a corrupt manner and when he's just acting stupid. The only thing you can count on is that it's always one or the other.
