I'm not 100% sure coordi's wrong.

nor am i. 100% is a hard hurdle to overcome. but 90% sure he's wrong.

what certainty of something do you think is reasonable to have of something to post it as your view?

certainly has to be greater than 50%

**** like this takes us one step closer to them declaring martial law

We’re not even 6 months into the most autocratic presidential term in history and we’re already watching a massive ICE windfall come with a mandate of ‘looking into denaturalizing citizens’ for a vague list of crimes ranging from ‘TBD’ to ‘being a populist candidate for mayor in New York City’

Martial law is coming. It’s part of Stephen miller’s existing plan by his own admission. No need for pretense

I think the probably that coordi is right on both those things is about 4%

My personal threshold would be about 80% to post without caveats.

Also where was MAGA Colbert when some trumper in Minnesota decided to start shooting up dem politicians?

"**** like this takes us one step closer to martial law" isn't the same thing as saying "martial law is coming soon" though I do think the most likely path to retaining power unilaterally is for the Republicans to declare martial law during civil unrest

Are you suggesting that he tried to fool his father's employer into thinking he was Black?

He checked "Black or African American" and "Asian". He also put in "Optional Additional Information" that he was "Ugandan". Since he was born in Uganda and there was on "Indian" choice (and Colombia knew his father, a tenured professor), I don't see a problem.

Yes he checked black/African American, and he was neither.

by Dunyain

It is actually pretty interesting how there are so few Indians in Africa, but they are generally so prominent and successful. They seem to fill the same niche (I have seen it described the "cleric" niche) that Jews have held in the West historically.

Mauritius has a strange connection to India, something like half of Indian FDI (foreign investment) passes through Mauritius

by Luciom

Yes he checked black/African American, and he was neither.

You realize Uganda is in Africa, right?

by coordi

Luciom hopes that the US going full white christonationalist will make his white nationalist views more plateable to the world.

Quite psychotic of you to claim I am pro christian nationalism when I have never ever defended religious morality and I have always plainly said I am an atheist.

Also psychotic to claim I have white nationalist views given I have always given the same take about filtering for quality with no regard to race.

But yes j want to sink the boats will of poor uneducated people trying to abuse European welfare systems and become permanent wardens of the state, and I want to kick out those already here.

But I have no problem with Rwandan engineers or Philippino nurses and so on (provided the speak the host country language very well ofc).

by Trolly McTrollson

You realize Uganda is in Africa, right?

You realize he wasn't american when he submitted his application right?

by Luciom

So the letter was correct for approx 90% of recipients, and wrong for the other 10%

How do you figure that? More than 10% of recipients get over $6000 per year in benefits.

Scandals don’t matter anymore. You’d have to find out he was literally jacking off to trans nazi porn before it could even register as a scandal, and even then it still wouldn’t kill his career. What are we doing here guys?

The president of the US is using his office to openly advertise his products and his supporters love it. I don’t care even one iota about this.

by coordi

**** like this takes us one step closer to them declaring martial law

I guess all the rhetoric from the president about immigrants being criminals has nothing to do with increasing violence? And pardoning people on their side who attack police?

This guy got what he deserved. Every single J6 idiot deserved the same thing.

War in Iran within 3 months + Martial Law soon

your takes are amusing

So he was off by two months about war with Iran.

Of course, even the most anti-Trump people never would have guessed that Trump would give Iran permission to bomb a US military base like he did.

by checkraisdraw

Yeah I think it would be pretty weird to say you’re committing a fallacy by judging a past society for practicing infanticide or something

For anything that I consider seriously wrong, I think it's perfectly fine to judge historical figures by those standards.

by StoppedRainingMen

Also where was MAGA Colbert when some trumper in Minnesota decided to start shooting up dem politicians?

Mocking the crime, blaming it on the Democratic governor and Marxists.

by chillrob

Yep. I think the worry is in totalizing the differences as purely being ones of moral failing rather than trying to understand them in their own terms. But I think it’s perfectly ok to say something like “hey… thomas jefferson owned slaves but talked about freedom. that’s messed up. what’s all that about?”

it’s not fallacious at all to make those kinds of assessments or have that kind of historical question

fyi: there will be war in iran in 3 months post was made days after the quick strikes in iran.

I kind of think the whole him putting "African American" on his college application is a nothing burger. I am a little older t

i don't think it ever came to be in practice, but at that time a lot there were a lot of genuine discussions of how to game the system, specifically if "if we give our children the middle name 'Kwame" and tell him not to declare race on the application then the college will just assume he is black rigtht?

so yeah, hard agree, this is something i considered heavily, and ultimately regret not partaking in

11 days after. it was in response to the budget passing.

by coordi

We will be at war with Iran within the next 6 months, probably more like 2-3

by Luciom

You realize he wasn't american when he submitted his application right?

He had lived in the US since he was 7 years old.

Does anyone think that he wouldn't have gotten into the university (where his father was a professor) if that box hadn't been checked?

Does anyone want to claim they did nothing worse than checking an (arguably) incorrect box when they were 17?

by whatthejish

Why exactly does Luciom care so deeply about American politics? Honestly shocked to find out he lives in Italy.

in his defense he has very close relatives who live there (are probably citizens and if not at least green card holders) and the the rest of the world typically adopts what is happening in the usa

there's good reason why you're seeing a lot more mini trumps winning elections across the globe because we often ignite and propel the zeitgeist

just look, we have a former al-qaeda president in syria doing this

by housenuts

fyi: there will be war in iran in 3 months post was made days after the quick strikes in iran.

Oh, I thought it meant after Trump was inaugurated.

In that case, war had already started in Iran, so the prediction makes no sense.

If your view is that those strikes = war, your view is also that US is still at war with Iran? bold take cotton

Not sure about iran but I can easily see martial law in our future.
