President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Empathy is seen as a weakness. “Greed is good” and all that jazz. Religion is a cloak of convenience seldom applied equally.
These *******s love to preach about society, yet seem utterly determined to exist apart from it.
How soon some forget that it was Obama who started "Kids in Cages" and it was Obama who 'earned' the nickname "Deporter in Chief."
Trumpers before Trump: "Obama has open borders and lets criminals run amok."
Trumpers after Trump: "Obama deported far more people and was less humane."
I told a Trumper the other day that rounding up people who are going to their immigration appointments, Home Depots, and construction sites isn't exactly deporting violent criminal types. His response was that Obama did the same thing but it just wasn't covered by the media.

This guy blew up recently because he made a bunch of videos where he accurately predicted the future based on geopolitical realities
His 2nd video "Christian Zionism and the Middle East Conflict" is really good, but in it he describes Christianity as a "lottery ticket" and I find that analysis to be incredibly spot on.
Just hold on to the ticket and maybe you get into heaven. You don't really have to do much else other than hold onto the ticket.
And imagine thinking being upset at being charged a fine is tHe sAmE eNeRgY aS being upset at losing your home and everything important in their entire life. Just an absolute garbage human being with zero empathy or common sense.
You lost your home??
He was talking about posters here, not the old lady in the story.
I don't agree with him on a lot of things, not even defending his opinions, but this is grossly misrepresentative of what he said.
Alright. I’d be pretty peeved if that happened and I got a fat bill instead of like a warning + one time hit. Think most people would feel the same. Like how people hate getting speeding tickets even though everyone speeds. Anyways - as others pointed out, that’s not really a great analogy because that lady was following the rules and the gov just changed their policy up. It’d
I agree with all of this, which is precisely why I worded the first post how I did.
We shouldn't be mad that the system is catching up to all these people because it means we're finally taking this seriously, but it's very poor form to not uphold the soft promises made to people like this particular woman over the years.
Barring any extenuating circumstances, I wouldn't support deporting Donna.
But it does put the government in a shitty situation of people expecting them to extend that same courtesy to other people for whatever individual reason, and now you're essentially saying that we have no immigration laws as long as you don't get caught breaking them right away. Just wait out some unspecified amount of time and then you'll get a free pass.
We run into this problem in property management as well. Common sense is out the window because a few people ruin things for everyone else. It's annoying to have to deny applications from people who can very clearly afford the unit, but if I let one person through for whatever reason and don't let some other person through for some other loosely-related reason, I open myself up to a proper ass-****ing by the government. So we have to stick to the criteria exactly as it's written with zero room for nuance, which sometimes means denying applications from people who have top 1% incomes but have credit scores below the required threshold because they carry no consumer debt. It's dumb, but the alternative is even worse.
Okay, so just give up your creature comforts for 10 years straight and you can own a **** box in Portland
The point being that might sound like a good idea to you, but to many people they'd probably rather just kill themselves
I'd rather kill myself than live paycheck to paycheck, always worried that if I get sick and miss a few days at work I could become homeless.
Those people are free to make their choices. But no one else should pity them for having to live with those choices.

And you saved every dollar yourself through your own frugality and never received a dollar from family or inheritance or subsidy?
I'm trying to figure out how you can save >half of your post tax income when you bring home 2500$ a month and the math aint really mathing
This is like the king of bad faith arguments
the epitome of capitalism is the billionaire who endlessly extracts, like Musk
The shlub spending all their money on booze is just a cog in the machine getting ground to dust
Seems questionable to hold the opinion that "we should punish people for acting as expected" but that is quite expected from you
Only for marxists (btw for non marxists, there is no "extraction": all voluntary exchanges cannot be "extractive", unless you are a marxist).
AND, JFC how absurdly out of whack is it to claim i asked for PUNISHMENT, when i simply said *we should not help people who are in bad conditions because of their own choices*. Refusing to help IS NOT PUNISHMENT.
Yeah, a lack of empathy is kind of the defining characteristic of "horrible people". Putting a distinct lack of empathy on display is justification for being called a terrible person. I've made unsavory comments that have been rightfully called out as awful. Thats how it worksThe problem is that you think your faith gives you moral justification to be judgmental when the gui
A lack of ANY empathy toward ANYONE yes.
A specific lack of empathy for specific kind of people is just mental health being ok.
Having unlimited empathy toward anyone no matter what is as bad as being a psychopath (and as destructive if you can mandate other people resources to follow your empathic pulsions).
I have empathy toward a lot of people. For example i have empathy toward any rightwing person who is taxed and regulated in his life against his will by a tyrannic leftist majority who set up too high taxes and too high regulations, in all the countries where that apply. I would give them asylum (as i would give asylum to people fleeing communism, unless they are communists ofc).

Maybe you just don't understand that US taxpayers have given Musk BILLIONS
Like, his entire empire is built off the back of US taxpayers. 100% of Musks success is beholden to US Taxpayers. He is just the paypal guy without subsidy.
And he gives back NOTHING. In fact, once hes drained one coffer dry, he rotates to the next, at whim. Thats why hes throwing such a fit now, because he got finessed by Trump and Musk is the finesse guy
And you saved every dollar yourself through your own frugality and never received a dollar from family or inheritance or subsidy?
I made a good profit from buying a house and selling it 17 years later.
All those years I rented out a room to someone else to help pay the mortgage. If I hadn't done that I would have a much smaller cushion but other things would likely be the same.
No inheritance, no money from family (or anyone else) as an adult. Not sure what you mean by subsidy. My mortgage had a slightly lower interest rate because of a state program for first time home buyers.
Nothing that anyone else wouldn't also be eligible for.

So you benefited from a time and place where you could purchase a home on a 30k salary and hold this personal experience over people in NYC currently making 60k a year who could literally never afford a home even earning 2x what you did
Did your parents cosign on your home?
I'm trying to figure out how you can save >half of your post tax income when you bring home 2500$ a month and the math aint really mathing
I don't know if this is supposed to refer to me or to what, but I haven't seen anything saying anyone does or should be able to save any amount of their income. I did join the discussion late though.
You lost your home??

After reading some of your other posts recently, I'm not surprised you are unable to follow the conversation.
Someone making $40k/year can buy a $100k home with $0 down and a HUD mortgage, which means NYC is out of the question.
You have no inherent right to own property in a specific area of the country.
You can buy livable homes in Milwaukee for under $100k, and that'll also give you the opportunity to improve some sketchy neighborhoods from the inside. Careful of those Kia Boyz, though. You might even be able to buy a duplex for a little bit more, and you can get someone to help offset the cost of your mortgage.
If NYC runs all the low-wage workers out of town because the price of real estate is too high, then it'll be up to NYC to navigate the reality of that situation on the back end. You made your bed, now lie in it.

No need to cosign, I was married and had a stable (but not high paying) government job at the time of purchase. I have always paid my bills on time and always had an excellent credit rating except for a few years after my estranged wife ran up a credit card bill without paying.
I did not live in NYC, but I did live in a pretty expensive east coast metro area (DC) at the time in one of the top counties for housing expenses at the time.
Everyone my age could have benefitted from the same thing and no one is forced to live in the most expensive city in the country.
I do understand it is generally more difficult to purchase a home than it was 30 years ago, but I also know there are still plenty of affordable homes even in fairly high rent areas.
I don't personally know the experiences of anyone a generation or two younger than me. The people I described who wasted most of their income are people of my generation whom I saw making those poor decisions.
Several of them were friends or lovers i helped out with short term no interest loans so they could avoid paying late fees on bills and getting even more in the hole. Most of them were people who had a higher income than I did.
Have you ever known these types of people? Maybe most of you have always been higher income and never personally known those of lower income to see how most of them live.
Well, you said last year was the first year you broke $40K, so it's doubtful you're spending $12k a year on health insurance when you could be on that Obamacare time. That would be a subsidy.
Yes, a subsidy available to everyone which I fully support. Those are the only kinds of subsidies from which I have ever benefitted. Is that supposed to be an extraordinary thing?

Dude, he compared the posters here with the complaining tenants. You twisted that to claim he said that about the old lady.
Either YOU were unable to follow the conversation or your deliberately completely misrepresented his post.

The posters here who were talking about ... what exactly?
This is like insisting the civil war was about states' rights.
The states' rights to do what?

I didn't realize you were this embarrassingly bad as a poster. It's so fun when someone that doesn't even understand the conversation jumps in and tries to explain it to me.

None of this has anything to do with the conversation, or with your dishonest post I complained about, from which you are trying to change the subject with insults and nonsequiters.
Please stop with the deliberately bad faith posting. Hopefully no one is falling for it.
