The MMA Thread
Since there's a SE Boxing Thread that evolved out of the PBF/Pac abortion, I thought we should have a SE MMA Thread as w
that was so funny rogan said something like "but there is a difference already in how charles is absorbing the shots" and maybe 4 seconds later he is unconscious
One of the finishes was pretty brutal.

I blame Herb Dean for simply lightly grabbing instead of a proper stoppage.
I like how the UFC has almost the whole fight out on YouTube for the main event:

Ilia's 3 fight win streak is like nothing we've seen in the UFC man. I think he has had an even more impressive run that Conor when he was coming up.
The betting line was really disrespectful to Charles, and I bet small on Charles, but Ilia showed us why the betting line was what it was.
Joshua Van really impressed with his boxing skills. He is really going to have to fight off Pantoja when they meet up. Pantoja seemed to slow down a bit, so that could be an opportunity for Van in later rounds if he can survive.
Ilia's been great, but give me Paddy all day if they do end up fighting at UFC 320.
Afraid to say that I don't really rate Charles. He's got good ground game but Islam made him look very ordinary and he got caught again last night.
Paddy walks around like a light heavyweight and is pretty tall for the division. But I haven't seen enough from him to justify getting a title shot. I guess hype sells fights. I'll take Ilia in that match despite having a size / range disadvantage.
DDP leaked in a video that Paddy is fighting Gaethje in August for the PPV. Makes sense, since that card is looking weak for a PPV. Ilia is saying he wants to return for a fight in December.
I'm still excited to hear them announce fights for the Oct fight night in Vancouver. I'm not getting my hopes up too high as they have given us some weak cards in the past. Last was a PPV headlined by Amanda Nunes in summer of 2023. Some dream fighters to see for me would be Malcolm Wellmaker, Nate Landwehr or Loner Cavanaugh, as there won't be any title fights on there.
not sure DDP was right about that, it is in 6 weeks so would think UFC would've announced by now
Yeah and Paddy looked mighty fat last week
That DDP clip was leaked yesterday, but today Paddy denied it. Also, it does make sense that rumour isn't true based on how Paddy looked. He said we was weighing 195 on the night of UFC 317, so that is too much weight to lose in a short amount of time. He would have already been in mid training camp shape to fight in August.
It does make sense if they were to add a big fight on that card. Cannonier vs Venom Page is showing as the co-main event and Tim Elliott vs Kai Asakura is the fight below that. A notable prelim is showing as Ruziboev vs Bryan Battle. It does seem like a weak card overall, but the UFC does tend to do that when there is a big main event. As of right now, DDP vs Khamzat is the biggest fight they can make of all the long anticipated fights.
Haven't really bet much MMA lately but I like Max over Dustin I think.
Their first fight Max just wasn't big enough for LW and the power disparity showed but think he is the more skilled fighter, surprised it is a pick em
Casually turn on a stream to see the final fight.
Absolute joke of a stoppage. Lol UFC.
Herzog worst ref in the game AINEC
Texeira was so rocked that he had to use two hands to pull himself back to his feet (which is a foul). If you factor that it, it makes the stoppage less eggregious.
He's clearly conscious. Dock him a point for the foul and let them keep them fighting.
Very premature stoppage. I could kind of see a reason to stop it when he was on the ground getting punched. Not when he is conscious and on his feet.
UFC just trying to have the fan favourite win
Strange considering they could maybe have had a hype train on the young Brazilian and leveraged a few wins into a title fight within a year or so.
The division is so cooked.
Rooting for Max, but mostly hoping for an entertaining fight.
I wonder when the last time there's been a UFC# where the majority of the fights favored to end ITD are on the prelims, and the majority of the fights on the Main Card are expected to go the distance.

easy money
thought it was 50-45 actually even if rds 3 and 4 were close
It felt like Max and the referee gave Dustin a lot of rope.
In round 1 Max drops Dustin and doesn't really swarm him and Dustin gets back to his feet. In Round 2 Dustin is completely out of it and not defending himself intelligently. I've seen referees stop the fight for a lot less!
Dustin did come back in Round 2 and Max stumbled back to his corner but was able to recover by the time the next round started.
It does feel like people romanticise Dustin a bit. He's obviously been in some wars and provided entertainment. But never really been able to hang with the elite. I guess he's in the same vein as Gaethje.
Holloway puts on a clinic and defends the belt in style.
I still don't know what the purpose of that belt is or how they can call it 'undisputed'. You're not exactly going to see Max Holloway fight Aspinall or any other heavier fighter.
Maybe they need different weight classes for BMF. Or just have a belt for each weight division instead of a gimmick belt....
lol no more extra fake belts plz

The BMF belt is pretty corny. Its a prize for two non-contenders who are considered exciting fighters. It's bad enough in itself that I think fans would be even more sick of it if there were multiple BMF champions based on divisions. Therefore multiple BMF belts.

If the belt holder is such a BMF they should be taking on anyone. Weight classes wouldn't matter to a BMF. I expect to see Holloway take on Aspinall next. 😀
320 pereira/ankalaav 2 and merab/sandhagen
321 in abu dhabi, gane/aspinall
be so funny if gane won that after all the aspinall hype
320 has Jiri vs Roundtree on there as well. That is pretty stacked for three fights! That can only be an absolute banger fight and for sure has to be the #1 contender fight at 205. The only other possible contender would be Ulberg.
For Aspinall/Gane, no way Gane wins. Aspinall moves well, has good standup and has a strong ground/submission game. Gane has already been controlled on the ground by Ngannou and Jon Jones.
