The Boys are Back in Town Again (June 2025 Version)
“We’re putting the band back together” said John Belushi in Blues Brothers. (Look it up kids – great movie!). Well, that
I was watching a WPT ft, Matt Savage is a nice guy and always gives me a chip to watch in the "arena". The chip leader was from NY and only had 1 guy in his section of the rooting gallery, so they put me there too. He was a nice guy that traveled with the player, they both were staked. The guy I was talking to was about 45k in make-up. His buddy ending up winning a million, the
What dreams are made of!
Absolutely!
From my semi-limited (35 hours) sample of Cash Games during my recent trip, I have to agree that I didn't see too many people drinking and clearly only playing to have a good time. But despite that, I thought that most games I sat in this summer were full of spots and much fewer serious players than I had expected. I was fearing an influx of grinder types, but these were (at le
You probably play the wrong hours tho. I was playing there from 1 am to 6 am the second night I believe and we had two tables right next to each other ordering tequila shots and beer every single time the waitress came around. Was a really really fun game with two pros who were just there to have fun a splash around.
But I was also in at least 3 drinking games in the early hours at the Aria, around 5-6 am.
I’m sat now in Harry Reid international airport waiting to board the 10 1/2 hour flight back to the UK. Thoughts turn to summarising the trip and my 23rd Vegas experience. What is apparent is that whilst I come for poker, the most enjoyment is had hanging with my friends. Poker is just the glue that brought us together and maybe holds us together. Sat with Watbri and Guitarist a
The Hungarian guy at our table was ordering tequilas if that counts [emoji23]
2, Me and my friend went to Salt & Ivy for breakfast at Aria. It’s usually my go to spot since I play most of my time at Aria and I like their food. This time it was different. We ordered stake and eggs and my steak (for $55) was gritty and plain bad. I complained to the waiter, they apologised but didn’t remove it from the bill. Fine, whatever it’s room charge anyway and the b
Same thing happened to me a few years ago at Sbarro. I almost never check the bill on the tv, but something about the attitude the worker gave me, made me check. I was able to get the overtip removed by calling guest services. The benefit of charging as much as possible to my room.
I hope you got/get your overcharge removed too.

I honestly didn’t bother going back, if happened second to last day and I just didn’t have the time or energy for $10. But it’s not really the amount that matters, just the principle… so sad really especially when the food is bad.
Accounting friend of mine taught me to always write a $ symbol in front of the first (or only) digit I put on tips to avoid shenanigans like this

Exactly! For me, I just called guest services, so 5 minutes for a phone call. I didn't have to confront the scumbag or anything like that.

Great idea!
The Hungarian guy at our table was ordering tequilas if that counts [emoji23]Re Vegas has lost its appeal: I 110% agree. Two very good examples that left me shocked during my trip:1, I tilted at Venetian and lost. A lot. Host said 7k I think it was closer to 9k. Doesn’t matter. Spoke to host, can you do anything for me? Anything at all? Nope sorry you only lost 7-9k in 6 hours.
Those examples are a very bad reflection on Vegas and how it has stopped giving a **** about its customers. And the additional $10 tip is outrageous and surely very illegal. Whilst the $10 itself is not significant, the principle of being stolen from would be enough for me to say “prove it”. If they’re adding $10 to a $9 tip, how much are they adding for a $300 bill? Thieving bastards.
Anecdotally, traffic to Vegas has dropped substantially this year. I’m actually happy about that given the rampant overcharging.
Something has to give - my guess is that room rates will drop but resort fees and high food and bev prices will remain

I feel the same. The nickel and diming on costs has (hopefully) peaked but the profit gouging is now in the form of poorer service and overall customer experience.
Sabotaging the phrase “pop will eat itself”, I think it has got to the stage now where Vegas is eating itself.

crazy that service is dropping given how much they already get paid with 20% tips on restaurant and bar prices
Not only that but I feel like the quality has dropped as well. Last October I went to Henry’s, a great place for us jet lagged people to get something to eat at night. In October the food was meh. We went back this trip, always order the same thing, and the food was absolutely horrible AND they increased the price.
Same thing with Aria. Salt & Ivy had a Mexican breakfast dish that was amazing. Since my last visit not only did they increase the price but they removed the protein from the food that you now have to order as an extra and pay even more.
At what point does it stop? At what point will the average player that stays at Excalibur stop going to Vegas when it’s simply outrageously expensive?
It used to be rewarding. You play and you get a bunch of ****.

I suspect the upcoming F1 will tell the tale. I was surprised at how well it did the first couple years. I thought for sure it would implode.

I doubt it's peaked, but don't have anything other than feeling to go on.
My suspicion is that they've given up on people who knew about 3:2 blackjack, single-zero roulette, no resort fees, etc, etc. Before long, the crowds won't know any differently, because "that's how it's always been" (in their context).

Plausible, but I so hope that isn’t the case.
One day Duncs, one day...
