President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Lucy going full reetard today. AKA Tuesday.
In France it's mandatory for citizens and non-citizens to carry ID. France is not a Fascist state, but in Britain this rule is considered a bit much and proposals for national ID have never got off the ground. All the same we're often asked for proof of identity, age, address, licence to drive etc.
In italy people think it's mandatory but technically it's not. It is mandatory though to identify yourself (name, DoB, official legal address) to law enforcement if asked.
Detail is they can detain you up to 3 days if they have reasons to believe you are lying in the self-identification. Which is why everyone carries ID and the "myth" of it being mandatory was born.
With ubiquituous cellphones though there is no justification to not have a photo of your ID (which you need to enter any contract only as well and so on) on it, so their suspicion is logically warranted if you don't show anything.

Man you must have nightmare every night living under such tyrannical law in your country for a libertarian like yourself .
I’m not even one and I find this law an abomination…..3 days wtf !
I ofc always carried a copy of my passport and visa or visa waiver when required (later photos on cellphone when those became available) with me everywhere everytime i was in a non -EU country for any reason, because it costs 0 effort to do so.
First, who carries their passport with them everywhere they go in a foreign country? I certainly don't.
Second, the following two things are not equivalent:
1) Expecting people to carry their passport on their person when traveling in a foreign country
AND
2) Expecting people to carry a passport on their person when walking down the street in a country in which they are a citizen just because they look foreign or sound foreign.
Treating those two things as equivalent is beyond ****ed. You have completely lost the plot.
If u get caught with no ID , are the consequences the same has in the US currently ?
I don't think so, no, but in France you can be fined, or detained for up to four hours while the police check up on you. If you turn out not to be a legal resident or visitor, you're likely to be in trouble, but I don't know if summary deportation is common. I don't think there's an equivalent of ICE rounding people up.
The point of the US is that nobody "looks" foreign because we are a melting pot of success
Thats been the paradigm my entire life
Am I taking crazy pills that we are suddenly a white nation? Are we letting Lucio rewrite history?
Do you think the 2M+ people Biden deported (mostly after apprehending them close to the border) each got a judge to review their cases? and again i am talking actual trespassers.
Do you think that in the USA police cannot forcibly remove trespassers from private property until a trial has happened?
Are you saying the Biden admin violated due process also?
I am saying "due process" for deportation isn't a full trial with appeal. it's just about giving you a chance to prove you can stay legally and if you don't you get kicked out.
being deported as an illegal isn't a sentence, it isn't punishment, it's akin from being forcibly removed from property that isn't yours.
law enforcement doesn't need a trial to force you to stop your car either.

are blacks being deported en masse? no. because there are hardly any black illegals.
what's this nonsense about whiteness? it's about ethnic groups which comprise most of the illegals (Latinos).
and notice how I mentioned speaking English as a native as well.
why do you want to deny illegals are almost all Latinos currently in the USA? there aren't big raids deporting Korean ethnicity people either are they?

You are aware a judge previously ordered the return of deportees yeah? There is an actual due process, regardless of what it consists off, so you don;t just get to "kick out trespassers" as you classify them as.

in a moment of national emergency following decades of abysmal, indefensible dereliction of duty by administrations of both parties, with the state finally dealing with a problem that should never have become that big (the presence of at a minimum 10 millions individuals who shouldn't be there), if you are very similar in profile to the 10 million criminals (ye I know not 100% of them are criminals but the vast majority are as they need to use fake SS numbers and so on even if they only overstayed their visa) that law enforcement, as it is the moral and legal duty to do, is finally rounding up en masse to deport, you are better off with the MINUSCULE inconvenience of carrying proof of citizenship/legal residence.
which plot have I lost? your country treated Arab looking individuals infinitely worse 23 years ago. And that was without 10 million Arab criminals being in the country.
it allows you to claim you have the original in the hotel/house and that's enough in 99% of cases to be let off.
in the other 1% they go there, find the original and you are done anyway.
btw you don't carry it only for law enforcement. you might need to be identified in a car accident as well for example.
i think you guys never travelled outside a first world country if this sounds weird (or only stayed in tourist areas of non first world countries)
HN lofi trolling today. AKA Tuesday.
if I was worried about the ICE gestapo, i'd have proof of citizenship/residency on my phone. easy enough to have a digital copy.
will they still rough you up and give you a hard time? maybe. if it gives you only an extra 1% chance of being let free, seems like a no-cost, no-brainer thing to carry around.
Remember 6 months ago when you didn't have to worry about keeping your passport on you? Yeah **** that, new paradigm. You might get kneed in the balls, sure, but how hard is it to carry your passport on you?
Compelling argument from the foreigner who doesn't have to deal with this ****
Same guy who absolutely lost his ****ing mind for years over masks
Little cloth over your mouth? BRIDGE TOO FAR IM OUTRAGED AHHHHH HOLY ****INSDFGLAIJSGD;LAKJSGLJA
Little violence from gestapo? Just carry your passport whats the big deal?
(housenuts may not have been outraged at masks)

We already went over this. Most people in this thread have traveled more than you.

Sure, but this post misses the point as well. To take an extreme hypothetical, if the U.S. government were shooting people unless they could prove they were registered to vote, I of course would incur the minimal inconvenience of carrying a digital copy of my voter registration card on my phone. It's a lot better than getting shot. But the mere fact that carrying a copy of my voter registration card on my phone would be a minimal inconvenience of course would not justify the policy of shooting people if they were unable to produce proof of voter registration.

yes it's a new paradigm. the new paradigm may very much suck. may as well do what you can to minimize the chances of that paradigm sucking too much.
that was the point, and that was the suggestion luciom made and for some reason people got up in arms about it.
and yes, as a foreigner i very well could get wrapped up in it. unlikely because i'm white and speak english, but who knows. i carry my phone with me everywhere i go. it's not hard to have a digital copy of passport and other identification documents on there. i have that already in canada anyways. i often don't have my wallet, but if i need ID, i show a pic of my driver's licence on my phone, and 95% of the time it's sufficient.
