Imagine making a trillion posts on:

- Global Finance
- Global Politics

and pretending that you are ultra-knowledgeable about these topics but then you seemingly not know how vaccinations work.

And then you act all hurt when someone calls you a babbling right winger.

I don't know why you think that given i have many posts ITT and elsewhere in this forum defending the efficacy and safety of most vaccines commonly used. Including the measles one which i actually described as particularly efficacious and safe, for a lucky (for us humans) combination of elements that make it very good and long lasting in protection.

Dunno why you think i am pretending vaccines work when i have always claimed they work (i mean, most of them at least somewhat). I don't need to claim they don't work to oppose mandates.

'Our sister died of cancer because of our mum's conspiracy theories'

Marianna Spring
Social media investigations correspondent

Gabriel and Sebastian Shemirani watched with concern as their mother Kate rose to notoriety during the pandemic, eventually getting struck off as a nurse for promoting misinformation about Covid-19.

Then, their sister Paloma was diagnosed with cancer. Doctors told her she had a high chance of survival with chemotherapy. But in 2024, seven months later, she died - having refused the treatment.

The brothers blame their mother's anti-medicine conspiracy theories for Paloma's death at 23 - as cancer doctors tell BBC Panorama these beliefs are becoming more mainstream.

Kate Shemirani has not responded directly to the allegations we raised, but she has publicly blamed the NHS for her daughter's death.

She and her ex-husband, Paloma's father Faramarz Shemirani, wrote to us saying they have evidence "Paloma died as a result of medical interventions given without confirmed diagnosis or lawful consent". The BBC has seen no evidence to substantiate these claims.

Paloma's elder brother Sebastian says: "My sister has passed away as a direct consequence of my mum's actions and beliefs and I don't want anyone else to go through the same pain or loss that I have."

Read that article earlier. Really heartbreaking.

I actually talked to my dad on father's day. We went out to dinner. We try to be pleasant to each other at that time. He told me he stopped taking all his medicines and is going with more natural alternatives. For example, he told me he stopped take Lisinopril because it's made from Brazilian snake venom (it's not). He told me cayenne pepper does the same thing anyway.

This nonsense is going to kill my dad.

I used to have conversations with my dad all the time about trying to get him to stop smoking (he smoked 4 packs a day) and to stop drinking (he was an alcoholic). But I was young (like a teenager) and he was never going to listen to me. He eventually did stop smoking (a miracle) but never stopped drinking. He died of a heart attack when I was 22 (and he hadn't smoked for about 2 or 3 years). I actually was incredibly mad for years because I had wanted to go into business with him and I felt abandoned (not that I was aware of my feelings at the time other than anger).

You on the other hand have a lot of medical knowledge so I hope your dad wakes up and listens to what you have to say... Maybe if you showed him exactly where Lisinopril comes from that would help. here is an article that describes the hi...

"Venom from a lethal South American snake enabled the development of the first Angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitor drugs – which have saved or improved the lives of millions of people with cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and kidney disease."

"From captopril to lisinopril

Although a game-changer for treating CVD, captopril did not make optimum use of all available binding sites – prompting researchers to perform a series of structure-activity studies in the hope of finding even more effective treatments. These led eventually to FDA approval of the Merck company’s own ACE inhibitor, enalapril, in 1985. Scientists at Merck then systematically altered each structural unit of enalaprilat (the active metabolite of the enalapril prodrug), by substituting various amino acids, including lysine. Adding lysine not only gave the new compound twofold better binding ability than enalaprilat, but also provided a name for what would become the most successful ACE inhibitor drug of all time. First approved by the FDA in 1987, lisinopril went on to become America's most popular medicine, and was still fourth on the bestseller lists in 2021, with more than 88 million prescriptions in the US alone."

My dad also quit smoking. I was pretty young when he went through that ordeal, but I vividly remember how difficult it was for him to stop. It made a huge impact on me, and I remember being incredibly proud of him. My mother tried many times to quit and she never could.

And yeah, as with most things like this, there is a kernel of truth to the snake venom thing. However, he isn't interested in the truth and he would absolutely accuse me of lying about it and disbelieve any official sources that contradict what the people he believes have told him is true (this is primarily his freaking sister). I've been down that road with him many times, and I won't do it anymore. I believe he is a fully lost cause and that this will ultimately kill him.

He is extremely fortunate covid didn't get him. He, of course, attributes that fact to ivermectin.

I try to make the trip back to Calgary once or twice a year, and usually one of them is around fathers day. I try to at least have dinner with him while I'm there, but, especially the last few times, he's "too busy." I was pretty assertive this time and, to my surprise, it worked.

We have reached the levels where the United States Department of Health and Human Services is publishing articles with wrongful, mischaracterized and even fraudulent citations.

So, in a somewhat ironic twist of fate, said department is now actually engaging in exactly the kind of corrupt practices which antivaxxers and other opponents of modern medicine have accused it of in the past.

It also puts the spotlight on the Trump administration's "Gold Standard of Science". A policy which contrary to its rather positive-sounding name, actually allows political appointees to take disciplinary actions when scientific findings are not to their liking. This ill-named policy also goes hand in hand with the administrations disregard for academic freedom, where it is now trying to govern the operation of universities through financial blackmail.

I think the price of all of this can't be something other than an enormous brain drain, for which there will likely be a very big price to pay in the not too distant future.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is boycotting the CDC's vaccine advisory committe and will be giving their own evidence based recommendations independently.

This is good news. We need more of this.

Let me know if you figure out how to converse with your dad about some of these topics in a way that he listens. My dad is similar, but probably not quite as far gone. I also talk to and interact with my dad on a monthly basis, so our relationship is not terrible. He does have a lot of concerning beliefs and squarely fits into that "white old man MAGA demographic." I think if I was able to really sit down with him with many talking points and rebuttals I'd be able to convince him of most things, but it can be really time consuming. My mom is basically the exact same way.

Doctors and public health organizations sue Kennedy over vaccine policy change

NEW YORK (AP) — A coalition of doctors’ groups and public health organizations sued the U.S. government on Monday over the decision to stop recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for most children and pregnant women.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Public Health Association and four other groups — along with an unnamed pregnant doctor who works in a hospital — filed the lawsuit in federal court in Boston.

U.S. health officials, following infectious disease experts’ guidance, previously had urged annual COVID-19 shots for all Americans ages 6 months and older. But in late May, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced he was removing COVID-19 shots from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations for healthy children and pregnant women.

Many health experts decried the move as confusing and accused Kennedy of disregarding the scientific review process that has been in place for decades — in which experts publicly review current medical evidence and hash out the pros and cons of policy changes.

The new lawsuit repeats those concerns, alleging that Kennedy and other political appointees at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have flouted federal procedures and systematically attempted to mislead the public.
