I had a sensei that liked the "paint the fence" move. It worked pretty good as long as you were standing right in front of him and didn't deviate from a blockable punch.

I think you're mistaken here. I heard he stuck up for a fellow classmate (Asian) as a kid and then the kid's dad (Sodoshi) trained him. Long story short, Trooper went ahead and won the kumite tournament. I think they made a movie about it.
