President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Bankrupting ICE would be very on-brand from the great businessman.
Maybe they should take some of the more than $12 trillion that Trump said had been "practically committed" on his watch last month.
"Nobody's ever seen numbers like we have".
No, nobody has...
It’s not clear that even if they approve more money for ICE they will be able to get agents. According to this article it has been tried a few times and has been very minimally successful in spurring recruitment.
“ The funding and bonuses would help the Homeland Security Department components meet the ambitious hiring goals, but the agencies are still likely to run into challenges. Presidents Obama, Trump and Biden all sought at various times to increase Border Patrol staffing, but those efforts have largely been unsuccessful. That is despite the agency currently offering recruiting incentives of up to $30,000.
Border Patrol failed to reach its hiring goals from fiscal 2021 through fiscal 2024, according to a Government Accountability Office report last year, and its total onboard staff has decreased in each of those years. The number of authorized agents jumped from 19,000 to 22,000 in that period, but the actual number of agents employed has declined. Biden secured funding increases for small upticks in Border Patrol staffing, but his requests for more dramatic hiring surges went unfulfilled.
Trump in his first term vowed to ramp up the border security workforce and his administration signed a contract worth up to $300 million to help it bring on 7,500 border personnel, but canceled it after it managed to hire just 15 employees. ICE under Trump solicited vendors for a similar contract, but canceled it before it got off the ground. Lawmakers for years were forced to claw back money appropriated for CBP hiring after the agency failed to meet the agency’s targets. Trump eventually oversaw small staffing gains at Border Patrol, but they paled in comparison to his ambitious goals.“
Seems like even with the bonuses it’s just not a very attractive position to be in. My speculation is that you’d be just as well off being another type of federal or state LEO if you had the clean enough background to become CBP/ICE.

I think this is a different set of problems than the "ICE is running out of money" one. From what i had read the increased need of money is linked to the preparation of more room to house deportees if deportation efforts ever ramp up as hoped for by Trump base.
According to WaPo it's possible that this year the USA will have net negative migration for the first time in 50+ years
Notice in this video how calm and cool the Maga supporters are. Then notice how hateful and unhinged the No Kings day rioters are. I feel like many of you might have been at this rally. This is how I envision most of you.
This is why Trump is President.
I’m sure an anti gun person dressed up protesting in a nra event would be gladly receive too…

A dream come true for those Americans that waited for decades to work in farm fields or cleaning offices at minimum wages but unable to because of immigrants.

I typically stay out of immigration debates in other countries and by extension the US one, because a) I don't really think it is any of my business as a foreigner b) There will simply be too many nuances I miss.
However, as a general principle of immigration (i.e. in any country), I'd say that "we have a bunch of low-paying **** jobs nobody else wants" is a poor argument in favor of immigration. It is more an argument against such jobs and a sign of lacking innovation.
There are a lot of things, such as deportations, that Trump doesn't have much personal investment in. No one ever accused him of being a policy wonk. And in most of these cases he is very open to being bribed and/or rewarding someone he perceives as loyal to him by going along with their desires. Of course most people would consider this dynamic as a negative thing in a sitt
Correct.
For anyone unaware, this is a US government website:
Can someone please shoot me?
In addition to the obvious, the website looks like it was designed by a five-year old on Squarespace.

Karl would probably be glad to.
The current Iranian regime with full nuclear capability isn't something that anyone should be excited about. But unless there is a regime change, Iran becoming a full fledged nuclear power seems inevitable. Most people seem skeptical that Israel can accomplish anything more with air strikes than modestly delaying the inevitable. Even temporary regime change in Iran seems like it would require extensive U.S. involvement. To state the obvious, U.S. efforts at pursuing regime change in the region have been horrific and mostly ineffective.
In short, I don't think Trump has any good options, which probably explains why there is nothing close to a consensus about what Trump should do. Even right wing dipshits like Tucker and Hannity don't agree with each other.

Why the **** should anyone care what some fat plumber and dumb propagandist think about foreign policy anyway?
Edit: for some reason I thought Hannity used to be a plumber but can't find any record of this from a cursory search, but anyway, who cares, **** him.

I don't think I suggested that anyone should care what Tucker or Hannity says. I merely was pointing out that they usually agree on what sort of garbage to firehouse into Trump's brain. But not in this case.
Collins: "How close do you think Iran was to getting a nuclear weapon?"
Trump: "Very close."
Collins: "Tulsi Gabbard testified in March that the intelligence community said Iran wasn't building a nuclear weapon."
Trump: "I don't care what she said."
Just another lol day.
That's a good number. We didn't have money to travel when I was a kid, so I didn't start going places until I was an adult with a job.
Now that I think about it, by the time I was twenty years old, I had only been in eight U.S. states.
Similar to me. Only Canada/US until 17. Then Mexico.
UAE/Afghanistan/Cyprus at 25.
The rest thereafter.
Made a list. Might be missing a couple, but have 29 proper visits + airport only for: Taiwan, Finland, Scotland.
Never been to South America, Africa, or Eastern Europe (aside from East Berlin)
One of the few things most people should agree with.
"Is The Metric System Completely Made Up?"
Yes, just like every other system of measurement. What a dork.

I have 2 questions.
Do you think Trump should have the unhindered authority over the USA, and be not touchable by courts and the two houses?
Would you describe the 6th Jan rioters as 'hateful and unhinged'?
What a complete knobhead. I know the type, profoundly ignorant, wilfully so, and proud of it.
Carl Sagan saw all this coming.
"I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...
The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance."
