If you are suggesting that people oppose Trump solely because he is a Republican, you are dead wrong, certainly as to me and probably for almost everyone else here who dislikes him now. Trump has never had much allegiance to a political party, but if he had somehow been elected as a Democrat at any point in his life, he would have been a terrible president.
If you had asked me in 2002 whether Trump would make a good president, my response would have been "LOLOLOLOL hell no. He would be one of the worst presidents of all time."

The concept of not having idols is foreign to right wingers. Whether it's "god" or a specific person, they are helpless little sheep who need someone to be in charge, that is why they love authoritarianism so much. I am suggesting he actually doesn't want to do the mass deportations he promised and insists he wants to do.
Unlike tariffs or low interest rates being always preferable to him, deportations seem to be one of those things he flipflopped widely about.

There are a lot of things, such as deportations, that Trump doesn't have much personal investment in. No one ever accused him of being a policy wonk. And in most of these cases he is very open to being bribed and/or rewarding someone he perceives as loyal to him by going along with their desires.
Of course most people would consider this dynamic as a negative thing in a sitting US President.
GOP statements are so coded it's difficult to translate them back to reality. Looking at what the president is doing, he's using ICE and the military to attack his perceived enemies. According to reports ICE is out of funds and deportation numbers are down. So the agency is spending more money, skipping due process, and less effective. Very Trumpian.

Border control is better than it was, but deportations of "settled illegals" are very low.
The big bill in theory would fund ICE a lot more but it's unclear if it will pass with the current text, or when it will pass.
Trump is stuck with no momentum.
Honeymoon, if it ever started, has ended with his tariff nonsense in early April.
Musk, whose efforts were making headlines almost daily at the beginning of trump term, is out of the political picture for now.

A zillion trump determinations about a variety of things are stuck in courts at various levels of the appeal process.
"Beautiful deals" with various countries, which purportedly would have followed the introduction of tariffs to "stop other countries taking advantage of the USA" are nowhere to be seen.
Ukraine war still ongoing with no sign of it ending.
Basically it's a quagmire for Trump so if he actually cared about deportations, and thought deporting people would help him politically (which a decent number of polls suggests it could) he would focus on it for real to deliver at least something of his long list of campaign promises. It would be the perfect time for him to do so.
Instead he attempted a few stunts at deporting settled illegals with minimal actual deportations.

He wants low interest rates and he wants tariffs.
The former is not something he can directly affect so he acts in (often clumsy) ways to try to get it done anyway through second order effects.
The latter is what he attempted tens of times already.
