Non-issue but for those who want it to be, add Chris LaCivita to your context first. But if a campaign thinks a staffer is worth that kind of cash they're welcome to pay it, the FEC has no guidance on it. Most of the concerns with permissible use of campaign funds center around disallowing the funds to be used for personal expenses.
Outliers aside, the typical going rate for senior staffers on what are now billion-dollar presidential campaign cycles seems awfully low to me, considering what's at stake, but what do I know.
Related note, "Original Sin" is an excellent book (the $4m pay was revealed there but the newer news is the $4m bonus part). There's plenty in there for folks of all political leanings but it's worth a read for its own sake. It definitely has some Tapper-isms but it works. I wouldn't have read it but my wife still borrows books from the library like it's 1987.

voting for a person that love breaking the law vs a person that was applying the law is a personal choice that goes beyond the "qualifying good or bad " results of the candidate.
