President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Ok only 500 years
Maybe an eu would have formed peacefully, Britain would have joined and it would have dominated until Fiji took over.
Who the **** nows what would have happened if Europe hadn't self destructed.
The longest-lasting empire I think we can consider that of Venice republic, depending on how you want to count that can be over 1000 years
Rococo,Thoughts on Mamdani? All his socialist ideas seem like imminent disaster. But I kind of want to see him get elected and enact some of his policy objectives anyways, because:a) It will be entertaining if nothing elseb) Things going predictably poorly could be a wakeup call for a lot of people who have no historical understanding of how poorly real socialism works in the r
My main thought is that, even though he probably will finish second, he has little chance of winning. The city's recent experience with a very liberal mayor was not good. Even most progressives grew to despise deBlasio. I also think ranked choice voting is a modest negative for Zohran.
On the flip side, I detest Andrew Cuomo. I disliked him long before he became governor. But he is going to win whether I like it or not. We will be stuck with a mayor who shares a lot of personality characteristics with Trump, although he isn't as big a grifter and he does care more about the city and the state than Trump does about the country.
There is no chance that I will rank either guy as my first choice.
Also it might have been the Ottoman empire that had all the oil. That was hitting 700 years iirc
It'd pretty illustrative to go back and read some of what right wingers were saying about the middle east 8 months+ ago.
Yeah its just baffles me how you could vote for a president [Trump] that
had no Russia/Ukraine war
peace in the middle east
....]
lol peace in the Middle East. Trump assassinated a top Iranian general and Hamas and Hezbollah prepared for the current war [Gaza] as a direct result of the Abraham accords. Which Trump used to claim fundamentally changed the Middle East until it failed as many predicted it would.
Here is what right wing "thinkers" (not Trump) said in real time about the Abraham accords.
How Jared Kushner Proved His Critics Wro...
If we don’t know how they will turn out, the deals have the potential to transform the strategic environment of the region, isolating and reducing the influence of Iran and of a feckless and corrupt Palestinian political leadership that has served its people poorly.
.................................................. ............................................
If you’ve followed the commentary on Kushner’s efforts the past few years, you’d be truly shocked at this outcome. (NB This is at the same time Oct 7th was being actively planned)
The critics took great umbrage at Kushner’s admonishing the Palestinians, not realizing that they were beholden to a conventional wisdom that had been eclipsed in the region. The tectonic plates were shifting such that the only path to peace no longer ran through the Palestinians, if it ever did. The frustration that Kushner was expressing about the Palestinian leadership was shared by key Arab leaders.
Of course, since Kushner had been intensely engaged in the region for years, he understood this when most of the journalists and advocates portraying him as a hopeless ignoramus had no idea. He knew what he was talking about when they, by and large, didn’t.
The whole "genius" of the Kushner/Trump Middle East plan was that the Palestinian issue didn't really matter and it was a tectonic shift that only 2 low IQ affirmative action morons could realize. But in reality, how is the "conventional wisdom" not exactly what happened? Isolating Iran and undoing Obama's treaty made them far more dangerous. Any Middle East peace deal not involving Palestinians is worthless?
This is what most experts predicted as it was signed.

Both articles should be read in whole to show the delusional right wing thinking vs sober reality but here is a clp
When he has sought my advice during the past couple of years, I have advised Jared Kushner not to become Israel’s lawyer. The last time I met with Kushner, he asked me what, in my view, would constitute success on his part. I made it clear that there was zero chance of reaching a conflict-ending accord, as neither Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas nor Netanyahu were willing or able to make the decisions required to achieve one.
But I also told him that if he wasn’t careful, he could make the situation a great deal worse. The key was to put something out that was credible and would put America in position to be seen as a party that could be trusted by all sides to work on the issue in the future.
Kushner and Trump intentionally went the opposite of what experts said and what happened was a disaster as they were told was likely. Why do they not take the blame other than typical "Look they're right wing, not very smart and it's not fair to hold them to the same standards you would non idiots?" Any administration going back to W Bush could have bribed Arab states that were tolerating Israel already to get closer. Only Trump and Kushner were so desperate to do SOMETHING that they didn't care about the obvious risks of further isolating Iran and Palestinians.
When it's people who know what they are talking about vs complete morons, nobody really stops and remembers that the morons were completely wrong. But we really should stop and point this out. Nobody who knew anything was clamoring for Trump and Kushner to do anything in the Middle East given their lack of skill, talent, work ethic and really anything beyond affirmative action based educations and work experience.
That it's the ultimate "Dog Bites Man" and not "Man Bites Dog Story" does not men it should be ignored. It should be talked about even more because the right wing affirmative action non merit crowd is still hugely powerful.
Well yeah, the moron brigade is always going to both sides Trump's failures. That doesn't mean regular people shouldn't hold Trump to the same standard we would a non right wing affirmative action clown.
The british empire disgregation though is unusual because it gave up a lot of the territory without a fight, voluntarily. Sort of like it "decided" not to be an empire anymore.
Once the Brits realised after several uprisings that ruling India was untenable and it would have to become independent they had to make plans to hand back the other colonies.
This is not good
core maga is unamerican yes: it is marxist at it's core as every movement that purports to defend "workers" or a subset of them is. Any framing where you have capital v workers it's marxism.
"main street v wall street" is marxism. "they are stealing our jobs" is marxism. White identity politics (as all racial identity politics) is cultural (2.0) marxism.
That doesn't excuse the marxist left in any way though.
I'd be a lot quicker to list your non-marxist things

The 2 sentences contradict one another. San Francisco and it's suburbs are the richest area in the US. And physically beautiful. There's some nuance like you said. All the good things attract scum. I love California. Lived here all my life except for living in Vegas for 1.5 years in the 1990's. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
That said, you'd have to pay me to take in stroll by myself in Los Angeles.
I think California, were it a country, would be one of the top-ten economies in the world.
