We have AJo vs shortstack maniac, what's our plan?
1/3 9 handed
Villain just sat down not too long ago already involved in couple pots losing 300 already. We have played at least 4-5 sessions before over the span of 3 months, Hero probably has won at least 1500-2000+ from villian, nearly winning from villain each time. His opening range is usually super super wide. But we are not sure if he's still opens that wide today(I've seen him tighten up alot in 1 session but all the other sessions he was a loose crazy monkey). Also he'll call 3bets with any playable hand, rarely 4bets unless its the premiums.
Below is link with some hh of him from before.

Effective stacks only 200.
Villain in EP opens to 25, Hero in MP picks up AJo. Do we call? raise? or fold?
His open sizes vary from 20-30 with all sorts of trash even in EP but we are not sure if this is the case for today.
We have like 4 players behind us yet to act. I don't think they know how to "adjust" to villain, at most they call wider preflop. The players behind us are all passive players. We have 2 shorties(100-150) to our left.

I think with this many players behind plus not really sure yet what state of mind he is in today, I would lean to fold until I know better / I'm in later position.

raise and commit or fold, AJo is a little light
Spoiler
Ok we made a tight fold, there were a few callers, then villain hits a pair on the turn with something like t8o and won.
EP raised to 8x, easy fold pre with AJo. I wouldn't call this a tight fold
I feel nitty, but with that many people to play, and knowing at best we're going to be a light dog when it inevitably goes in, I'm leaning fold too. AQo is a much tougher question.
Not thrilled with all the short-stacks. Is this just a phase the table's going through, or typical for this game?

I thought shorties are a common thing. Usually table has at least 1-2 shorties.
Only a few buy in full for 500, most buy in 300 then some buy in short. Those who buy 300 also will end up short alot of the time unless they top up.
I'm definitely not folding vs a villain like this, calling seems good since you suggest the other players likely aren't adjusting and 3 betting wider.
The problem with raising is we are committing ourselves(or wasting a bunch of money by folding) vs the short stacks behind us. Similar issue with calling. If we miss this flop we have little chance of improving or holding on in a multiway pot stuck in the middle having to play pretty face up.
I'd call or 3!/GII with AJs, fold Ajo.
It's sometimes difficult to realize how tight we are supposed to play vs 'typical' 5x+ opens in live poker since it's often a 'standard raise' at our tables. But unfortunately the math doesn't really care about our feelings lol

Against normal players I'd agree and fold, this guy is super super wide trusting the description idk why you wouldn't want to play AJ against him in position.
OP said he won 1500-2k himself from this player per session, so we are talking about a mega whale (relative to the size of the game).
"His open sizes vary from 20-30 with all sorts of trash even in EP " - I think this sums it up. You also mentioned he calls 3bs very wide - think it's clear to 3b against this type of player. I think when you have strong reads like this against someone playing so far from standard play you need to trust your reads and go with it - a lot of money to be made.
In general my approach to this sort of spot is going to be raise or fold, regardless of reads.
While AJo seems like a playable hand, and is tempting to 3B, I wouldn't do it when a semi-maniac opens to $25 from EP at 1/3, especially not when we're only starting $200 deep. You're temping him or someone else to put in a 4B to a pot-committed size.
Like, even if you make it $75, his 4B is going to be 200, and you'll have to call. If someone behind you 4B's off a bigger stack, it's pretty gross. It's especially gross if you make it $75, someone pops it to $200, and he calls. We'll be getting an insane price to come along, but it'll be a dry side pot, and we'll be OOP the rest of the hand, assuming the 4B doesn't come out of the blinds.
It's okay to fold a hand like AJo in spots like this.
If we *MUST* get involved here, I might be able to get behind a min-click to $50, just praying everyone else folds, and he flats. I don't mind taking a flop IP against this guy, even with 1.5 SPR and just AJo. That's going to be ahead of his flatting range more often than not, assuming he's just ripping it in pre with JJ+/AQ+.
