I appreciate everyone's participation! I also am a poker player and found that poker has somekind different psychological characteristics from other gambling forms. The survey is not that long and I am eager to get replies from various players. The gift card will be sent after the survey ends, and I expect it will take about 1 or 2 months from now. If you have a question or found some error in the survey, please let me know by the comments. I will reply it right away. Then thank you for everyone's participation!
Oh sorry I already know that. My idea was also to differentiate the psychological characteristics of poker and other gambling forms. I'll change it to 'playing poker'. thanks
OP, will you share the results of your survey and research when you’re finished? I will happily proof read and provide feedback.
I participated in the survey - it's an interesting topic as poker is technically gambling in the sense that you risk money to win more money, but it's not pure gambling in the same way that craps or slots may be.
Hi everyone,I'm reposting the survey with a quick update.Unfortunately, in the previous round, a small number of users submitted fake responses using macros or bots. As a result, that dataset had to be discarded entirely. To those who already participated sincerely, I’m truly sorry. I deeply appreciate the time and effort you put in, and it was incredibly disappointing to
Feedback from whom ?
Many, many years ago, I conducted a free study for participating, interested online poker players. Players played online poker for 1 hour in a specific game on a site I ran...... with the understanding that their entire hand histories would be reviewed and commented on by David Sklansky and Mason Malmuth and shared among all participants.
Ran it once, irrc, it was well received.
Fwiw, you still owe monetary compensation to be split among good-faith participants in your first survey, don't welsh.

"Gambling" requires three elements,
(a) consideration,
(b) chance,
(c) a prize
Absent any one of those three elements, I think that, legally, the activity, by a player, is not going to be "gambling" activity.
"Skill" sufficient for given player to overcome the element of chance during his/her play would mean that as to that player, he or she is not gambling.....
(Speaking more generally, the poker game operator may be offering a gambling game for play, which depending on a number of factors may or may not be a legal issue. Similarly, a "mere player" is unlikely to break applicable laws by merely playing poker. The law has been described as "some tricky sh*t" and facts matter.)
To quote W.C Fields ("Twillie) from My Little Chickadee, as reported in Wikipedia, via PokerNews
"Twillie encourages him to get out his money and join him for a game of cards. The victim spreads his cash on the table, asking excitedly as he does "Is this a game of chance?"
"Not the way I play it, no," comes the reply. "
Thank you for the advice. I'll try to figure out what is the real reply. I am finding some honest replies in the first survey result too, so I'll try to pay most of the participants who seems to be real.

Yes, that was my idea. Because this is not academically well proven yet, so my research is aiming to show it academically.
Seoul National University... I believe they are the Demon Deacons.
No, poker is gambling for everyone whether they believe it or not. Poker being a game of skill does not negate the fact that it is gambling.
So what does it make gambling, the possibility of losing money?
Is investing gambling? Is being self-employed gambling? Is building a pension gambling? I mean its very safe and in the long run will very likely make profit, but the same goes for many poker players over the long run.
Or is it simply gambling because its done in a casino?

Let me flip that question back around to you, is poker gambling when the player has a negative expected value in the long run? How about break-even players? It's gambling when other people play but not you right?

strong tactic of not answering the question whatsoever
I will answer your questions and the answer is NO.
If I am playing football, chess or snooker for money versus better players I will have a negative expected value too. If I play weaker players my EV goes positive. That doesnt mean snooker is gambling. And in poker its the same way. Skill is a huge factor, luck is too, but luck is a factor in any game/sport which I guess are all gambling then.
And i dont know what the sentence "It's gambling when other people play but not you right?" is supposed to mean. I am not talking about myself, I am clearly talking about poker in general. Although it would be awesome if somehow it was gambling for everyone except for me, I would be able to retire soon.

Football, chess, and snooker are fundamentally different than poker in that it's not normal to bet on those games. Poker by it's very nature is a game played for money. Snooker isn't gambling but what are you doing when you bet on a game of snooker? You are gambling. Even though it's a game of skill. Wagering money on the outcome of a game is called gambling.
When you take money out of poker and play for play money, it's no longer gambling.
Let's take football. If you are playing football and wager on the outcome you say it's not gambling. Odd. How about a person on the sidelines who isn't playing who wagers on the outcome of your game, are they gambling? Or is sports betting also not gambling?
Yes.
No but it could be considered that.
No.
Is building a pension gambling? I mean its very safe and in the long run will very likely make profit, but the same goes for many poker players over the long run.
No.
No.
Sorry for not answering your questions in the first place and thank you for answering mine.
If you wager money on a outcome whether you lose or win it is gambling.
There's -ev gambling spots and +ev gambling spots for both the house and the players.
Poker is +ev for the house otherwise they go out of business. Maybe +ev for some players. -ev for a lot of players.
Is investing gambling?
There's speculation and investing. Speculation isn't gambling neither is investing.
Yea I honestly dont get the distiction.
I know by nature poker is played for money and most games aren't.
Yet if we see Person A playing poker for money and we see Person B playing snooker for money according to "The possibility of losing money = Gambling" they are both gambling.
Being self-employed could go very wrong financially, so surely that has the possibility of losing money and therefore = gambling.
On investing you are more nuanced to say it isnt gambling (although people lose a shitload of money there) but could be considered that.
I think the same goes for poker. Investiing is +EV for the best investors just like poker is +EV for the best players. The best investors in the world are gonna make money, just like the best poker players. And even less skilled players/investors are very sure to make money if they "table select".
2 people are playing chess.. are they gambling? No
Now the same 2 people are playing chess and the loser has to pay $10 to the winner... losing money is now a possibility and therefore they are gambling
I refute this method of labeling things as gambling.
since some of you guys think that poker indeed IS gambling, i wanna hear your opinion. Im not interested in survey and five 5$ btw.
Should poker and casino sites which are made on igaming platfrom should be considered same thing?
I dont agree with this statement cus all the time i wasnt considered poker as gambling, but i will gladly hear your opinions here.
