WSOP Trip Report 6/11-6/19
I am getting extremely excited for my upcoming trip! Heading out on Wednesday and I can't wait. I typically make 2-3 Vegas poker trips a year but never before for wsop. I usually don't start my trip reports until I land but there is too much to get out there before I leave since it looks to be a smorgasboard of tournament action and possibilities. I love tournament poker and have always feelt I could hold my own in the typical off-season dailies and have a decent track record there. The multitude of bigger buyins, large fields and multi-day formats makes me feel like a kid in a candy store.
Anyway this is my poker plan for the week
6/11 arrive and cash
6/12 cash
6/13 $300 MGM stack (2 day)
This tourney has 3 seperate flights on 6/13. I plan to enter the early (10am) flight. I'm not a second bullet guy but it is definitely a possibility here if things don't work out early.
6/14 day two MGM stack or if that doesn't happen maybe some sort of daily or cash depends on how I feel about it at the time.
6/15 $500 wsop Salute to Warriors (3 day) My "official" wsop attempt
6/16 Warriors day 2 (or cash/dailies?)
6/17 Warriors day 3 (or cash/dailies?)
6/18 cash
6/19 head for home with a suitcase full of cash!
Not sure what to expect but looking forward to it all. I will play it by ear depending on feel for exactly what I will do as far as cash versus dailies if the 2 multiday tournaments I enter don't work out.
Otherwise this will be similar to all my other trip reports with plenty of food pics and my poker journey throughout the week. Those bastards at the cheesecake facotiry are already screwing with me though! Once again they have taken my beloved spicy cashew chicken off of the menu. I'll still go though 😀 The tradition started because I wanted a piece of specialy cheesecake. The cashew chicken was just a pleasant surprise. I will definitely try to fit in a couple of my other favorite meals as well but it's hard to plan when I will be hopefully leatherassing tournaments late into each evening. But I am going to try to enforce some semblance of portion control and intermittent fasting but who the hell knows with how the tourneys work out? I have been on a very restrictive keto/fasting lifestyle for the past few months so I am looking forward to enjoying my food and drink 😀 Also have been pushing my bodyclock to be more Vegas friendly as the last thing I want is to be exhausted come tourney crunch time.
I will be staying at The Palazzo so Venetian cash will be extremely convienient for me and I expect I will play most of my cash games there. Hopefully I can sneak in a little pool time as well. Have been trying to keep up with all of the other trip reports happening right now but that will be tough once I really get into my own but will try to keep up with my LVL brethren. Good luck to us all!
I'm in, hopefully I'll see you in the Salute to Warriors streets.

go go go...
Always in for a mrb TR!
Assuming you reg for the Salute to Warriors on the 14th, I recommend wandering into the area and finding your seat/table. Take it all in the day before, so you're ready to go when cards fly.

Playing the MGM on the 13th as well (isn't the buyin $250?) and Salute on 15th. So we will have to meet at a final table.

Per MGM I initially saw i listed at 250 and then later saw it changed to 300? Either way I am planning on playing it. Can't wait to meet you at both final tables 😀
good luck and have a fun trip
Looks good, I’m IN

The WSOP is a great spectacle and there's nothing quite like your first time. Savor it, enjoy it, and (most importantly) run like Usain Bolt.
At least there appears to be a bar nearby.
Finally made it but with many trials and tribulations.

Flight took off 50 minutes late what landed only 10 minutes late. The problem now was getting a room at the Palazzo. They said all they had available was double Queens and I wanted the king that I had ordered. So they said to wait and that they would text me when the room is ready. So I went and played some stadium bacra for a while slid on a hundred got stuck real bad before my my way back to +1 so I didn't lose anything.
After about an hour I went back to the desk and said hey what's up where's my room. Then they said they had one but it was different and I said well what do you mean different and they said well it just doesn't have the step down and I said okay I'll take it. But there were lots of differences it had a tiny little closet no desk a tiny little bathroom and this was not a typical suite at the Palazzo so I went back downstairs and said I needed a different room. So I said if I was going to stay in that room I I would need my Resort fee waved. They said they could wave a couple nights but not the whole trip and I said nope that's not good enough I need a new room. So as soon as I walk away from the desk they said they'd call me when when the new room was available it took about 2 minutes and they called me right back and I got into a regular Suite so it took a while but I finally got the room that I was reserved for.
Room 1

Room 2

Still need to eat and unpack. Gonna eat now.
Made it over to Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Even though they took my beloved spicy cashew chicken off the menu the chicken parm sandwich I got was very good.

For dessert I got the Cinnabon swirl cheesecake. It was outstanding. But it was a bit too much and I didn't quite finish it.

Now I'm going to finish unpacking probably take a shower and then head down and try my luck at some cash poker.
Finally got some poker in. Went down to the Venetian poker room and played some one three. It went okay I was in for $300 out for 331.

I got stuck early so I was pretty happy with a small win. Shortly after I started playing I lost half my stack on one hand. There was a limper then the guy in the cutoff raised to 10 and I on the button reraise to 30 with Ace King off. But the small blind comes over the top for $139 with 99
They were good I couldn't hit an ace or a king and the Flop even had a Jack and a queen which gave me the 10 outs but I didn't hit those either. I was happy that I was able to chip back up to above even after that hand.
I'm pretty tired right now and it's way past my normal bedtime. So I'm going to go to bed and hopefully be able to sleep a little later than usual. Tomorrow I plan to hit the pool early and then go over to the Horseshoe and check out the WSOP action. Plus I want to get registered for the app. Tomorrow will be a cash day I won't start playing tournaments until friday.
I've stayed in one of those corner rooms before. I didn't mind since the lack of step meant I was less likely to bust my arse over it. That was back when I drank a lot in Vegas.
My body clock is forked. Stayed up later than usual last night hoping to sleep in this morning but my body just wouldn't let me do it and it got me up at 4am. It always takes me a night or two to get used to a new hotel bed and pillows so hopefully I'll adapt to it pretty quickly. But when I got up it was still dark and there was a nice full moon outside my window.

Figured I'd try my luck at some early morning poker with Venetian only had one game going and it was full. So rather than wait I decided to take my morning walk. First morning in Vegas I usually take a walk through the Bellagio conservatory. They had some sort of animal theme going this time.

Then I just decided to walk over to the Horseshoe to see where the WSOP events would be. Everything was closed up cuz it was still early in the morning so I didn't get a look into any of the ballrooms. But I'll be going back over there later this morning to register for the app.
The pool opens in about 45 minutes and I think I'm going to go down there for an hour or so to get some sun. After that I'll probably grab some breakfast and then head over to the Horseshoe again to see what's going on over there.
On my walk I took a spin through Planet Hollywood as well to see their new poker room and there was no action up there at all. It was a nice walk though this morning and I got in about 7 miles. Yesterday I did 37,000 steps so I should have been exhausted and sleep well but that didn't happen. This afternoon I expect to play some cash.
Went down to the pool for a little while and it was very nice. If you want Morning Sun though the Palazzo is not the place you want to be you have to go all the way down to the Venetian part of the pool complex.

After finishing the book I was reading on the plane yesterday I decided I wanted to have some breakfast. Typically I go to the Grand Lux because it's a great all-around breakfast place. But as always my tradition is to have eggs benedict the first breakfast in Las vegas. Grand Lux eggs benedict or average and really nothing special. So I decided to try the pool restaurant. It was very nice and the eggs benedict were outstanding.

Now I'm going to get cleaned up and go wander around for a while. I need to go over the Resorts World and get a player's card because I've never played there. Not sure if I'll play there or not but I just want to have that option available to me if I decide to. Then I'm going to head down to the Horseshoe and check out all the WSOP stuff now that it should be open. And I need to get registered for the app.
I expect to play cash most of the afternoon and evening. And then tomorrow start getting into tournaments.
In. Can't wait to tag along. Run well!
Looks like you had the pool all to yourself. Good luck for your trip.

Yeah not many there at 8am. It's a huge complex though so there's a lot of places you can spread out to.
In other news I went and got my Resorts World players card. Then I headed down to the Horseshoe to register my app for WSOP plus. So I did the admin things that I wanted to get done today. Then I headed over to the Venetian to play a couple hours of brutal poker. I was totally card dead and a few times that I did catch a hand I would get beat a set of nines got beat by a flush Ace King versus ate my Ace queen stuff like that I just kept getting buried. But mostly I just folded. I was in for 500 out for $250.

So that's a loser! Now I'm just going to get cleaned up and get ready for dinner I've been anticipating for quite a while now. One of my favorites in Las vegas. Then after dinner I'll take another turn at cash.
The Venetian poker room is an absolute Zoo right now. Every single table is in use. They have two tournaments running and they're both full and they keep calling alternates and people keep registering. The cash game lists are very long and the lines for the cashiers is insane.
Went and got one of my favorite Las Vegas meals. Fried chicken and Cornbread at the yardbird. The fried chicken is outstanding but the cornbread is the best I've ever had and that's what always sells me on going there.

Plus they have Fat Tire Ale which is one of my top three favorite beers.
I put myself on the Venetian wait list and walked around a while to burn off the meal. I got in 37,000 steps yesterday and another 37,000 steps today and my feet are feeling it.
When I got up to the poker room I only had to wait about 5 minutes to get a seat. But the session didn't go very well. I was chopping around up a little down a little until a big hand came up. I re-raised the initial razor with KK and then he re-raised me. I thought for a minute and said the heck with it I'm going to shove all in. He called with Aces and I was felted.
I'm pretty exhausted right now with all the walking I have done in the last 2 days not to mention the lack of sleep. I hope I can get a good night's sleep tonight and be fresh for the MGM tournament tomorrow morning.
Damn It's 5 A.M at the Venetian poker room and yesterday's 800 one day event is still going. I'm not sure if I have that kind of stamina. 3 players left
Went down to Venetian for some early morning poker this morning but it wasn't meant to be. I got a seat right away but after three or four hands my table broke. I waited around for about a half an hour to see if I could get a seat at the other table but nobody was leaving. So I decided to take a walk and get some steps in. I did take a bubble crap shot and that worked out winning $66.
I couldn't believe that tournament from yesterday was still going. Finally ended about 5:30 a.m. looking forward to finally play some tournry poker today.
