NBA Awards in general are borderline meaningless at this point IMO

This. They probably gave it to Siakam so we would all discuss the award and how Haliburton should've won it ---- leading to more interest in the Pacers/NBA/upcoming Finals. lol

It was clearly close so I don't see how that makes it meaningless. Same goes for the MVP this year. Shai was really good statistically and the Thunder had the best point differential of all time

Since the Finals wouldn't have happened for both teams without trading PG13, does that mean he gets a championship ring regardless of who wins?

The 2023 Texas Rangers were +5000 to ship in the preseason, but were -165 to win after they made it to the World Series against the DBacks.

Not trying to derail thread but Bochy is a Mount Rushmore manager. Four rings, firsts for two franchises, one HOFer total between the four rosters.

/derail, sorry

Imagine a universe where Kawhi re-upped for a 1+1 with player option after he titled in Toronto (which as Chilltown has said he would've been very wise to do) --- then they 2-peated with another win the next season.

So, SGA remained on the Clippers.

NBA Butterfly Effect is Amazing!

In general if it is remotely close it should just go to the better player. Obviously he has the harder job, the more defensive attention, the more gravity, the more intrinsic value as a player which is why the team is there in the first place.

Brown/Tatum last yr was similar, although Siakam/Haliburton was definitely a worse/more wrong result.

Raptors are big game hunting for a star.

Masai prolly wants Giannis but won’t get him so… he’ll settle to buy low on Embiid.

RJ Barrett (25 this month)
Jakob Poeltl (only 1 more guaranteed year and a player option after)
Agbaji (25)

..And perhaps a 1st (protected?) if need be. That's a lot less guaranteed long-term money and 2 additional pieces in the same age range as Maxey (25 in November). Not a huge asset haul but it satisfies some rebuilding goals and works in the trade machine.

Quickley
Dick
Ingram
Barnes
Embiid

Is a pretty solid starting lineup as well.

And East is probably wide open next year.

Pacers vs. OKC "Hey you guys built your team off the spoils of a Paul George trade? Us to!"

NYK vs. Minny "Julius/KAT revenge tour"

IND v. Minny "Lowest rated Finals since they were on tape delay"

NYK v OKC- I got nothing here. IHart I guess?

ESPN producers read TZ confirmed

Is it too much to ask that the East finishes like:

1CLE
8 Whomever

4IND
5DET

3NYK
6MIL

2BOS
7 Whomever

It's where we're at now, and I feel like that would be the Pacers' best chance to possibly get back to the ECF. Plus, that BOS/NYK 2nd round series would be pretty great.

Just remembered this too. Manifest your dreams kids

Don't see Masai going all in on Embiid.

Masai's contract expiries next year so he if makes the trade and it's revealed Embiid is too cooked beyond recognition to be near the same player, then that's it for Masai.

Talks is Giannis to them might really happen.

Giannis’ family got Greek citizenship with Masai’s direct involvement/help and Giannis has publicly thanked him big time.

Sixers owners have made it clear that they’ll ride Embiid until he’s done-done. Don’t see him being part of a trade.

Wtf does Toronto think they’re trading that nets them Giannis?

Hope and Change.

Thibs has been shitcanned!!!

I did NOT expect that; I thought he and Leon Rose were really close.

I wonder who replaces him now… hopefully it’s someone who develops young players and actually uses the bench.

Mike Malone walking through that door?

Knicks are in an insanely tough spot. They went all-in on this line up and don't really have the capital to re-tool heavily. That said, this line up could run it back and get the "Power of Friendship year 2" bonus and maybe improve.

Anyway, that's yet another coach the Pacers have got fired. I think they're up to 4

1. Dolan definitely axed him. I wonder how Leon Rose feels about this since he and Thibs were reportedly close.
2. I do not want Monty (I think he sucked on purpose to get fired and collect checks from Detroit), Vogel (he doesn’t impress me at all), nor Mike Malone (I think he gets too emotional and isn’t a very good coach).
3. Budenholzer probably makes sense. I wouldn’t mind him.

The Knicks are such a clown garbage franchise.

"Tell Thibs, I want him to know it was me...again" -KAT (maybe)

Whoever they hire is bound to use the bench more than thibs

Whoever they hire is bound to use the bench more than thibs

objectively, i think the knicks have easily outperformed their roster last 2 seasons

their bench is no bueno and i think they squeezed out a lot of wins on tired starters who were better than fresh 9th men

The problem is, they've also outperform expectations too.

That Celts series was a pretty good example of that. Went down 20 in back-to-back games and the Celtics missed a historic number of 3s to end up down 0-2.

Credit to the Knicks for winning those games, but that result doesn't feel like something you want to bank on going forward.

Feels like a terrible spot for whoever they hire to replace him. They’re almost a lock to regress from here.

It would be malpractice if he ever is an NBA head coach again. What he did last year with the Pistons is honestly reprehensible.
