The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

Worth remembering one of Trudeau’s most effective and well implemented policies was childcare.

That being said everyone knows your far left views we read it everyday. I mean your a university professor the most left leaning job in the world. Tim pools also a centrist. If your a lifetime liberal party voter your probably not center like you have claimed because generally people in the center switch party's every few elections and you would have been the 10% that voted Tr

Lol, don't be this guy. Firstly, I'm a proud leftist, it doesn't work as an accusation to try and accuse me of it. But your justification is loltastically bad. I'm a math professor. This is more or less entirely politically agnostic. Trying to conclude I'm left leaning because....uh.....I'm into.....math? Please, your caricature of academia is stupid. And no, I'm not a lifetime liberal party voter by any stretch, I've voted for 3 parties repeatedly. The liberals were never at 10% in their absolute worst most outlier bad poll. Just about every word of this is BS.

I actually accused you of taking the female side because your on a team and that's what you have to do to win the baseball game. I even specified later you made an antimen statement as supposed to being an anti men person. huge difference im sure.

Lol. Tribalism at its worst. While the observation that the CPC sucks at attracting female candidates is utterly benign and nowhere remotely close to being "anti men", the great irony here is that you are the one who is interpreting this interaction through the lens of "teams" and "sides". And just lol at the "you said something anti men that isn't me saying you are anti men person" BS.

No fng kidding the man is 60 I hope he has more experience than Harper but we do agree he is qualified for the job

Lol. Still not getting it huh. The issue isn't age.

After getting his degree, Harper became a lifelong politico and never worked any significant industry job.

After getting his degree (up to a PhD now), Carney spend his entire life as an economist until becoming a politician just this year.

It's just ridiculous inept to try and lump Polievre/Trudeau on one side and Harper/Carney on the other. Harper absolutely 100% belongs in the same camp as Poilievre/Trudeau of having no meaningful experience outside of being a politician.

No it was Jagmeet holding Trudeau hostage that brought in childcare

Why make stuff up? That might be the right narrative for dental care, but childcare is a completely separate issue and a central focus of the entire Trudeau tenure from 2015 onwards. The biggest policies were all BEFORE the confidence and supply agreement.

I was more alluding that your surrounded by leftists so you don't think your as left as you think. being surrounded by leftists has little to do with your major

Lol nope. I’m a math nerd. My colleagues are all other math nerds. We mostly talk about math. Doing math and teaching math are 99% apolitical, and so for most of my colleagues I have no idea how they would vote except I guess my closest friends in the department.

Sadly, you are far from the first to try and paint your ignorant stereotypes about how academia works for most professors and ascribe it to my own personal politics. No, I’m in not a gender studies prof at Oberlin.

yes im sure your likely Ontario university colleagues are all non political. especially the non math ones that you totally don't talk too.

more steel and alm tarrifs btw

by MoViN.tArGeT

lol really committed to the bit huh? No, I’m not in Ontario, although I have been a student and a prof at Ontario universities (and an American one) in my past and the same goes for all of those. I suppose you’re right, I sometimes hang out with physicists who are about equally non-political.

I’m never quite sure why people who have zero knowledge of what being a prof in a STEM field is like are just utterly convinced it’s some cess pool of far left political activism. I assure you it is far less banal than you are imagining.

Almost every opinion I have about politics is formed outside of my work, such as seeing idiots try to espouse conservative talking points ITT

I just assume your not isolated with only math people because you teach math in a university. the worlds a big place. its fluid

lol the commitment is hilarious. Buddy, I get that you have a caricature in your mind. Your being told that this caricature has effectively zero relevance in my day to day life, but seem to keep finding new ways to maintain that it must be true.

I mostly interact with math profs. I’m in the math building. I sometimes interact with STEM profs in working groups or committees etc. it’s the same there - very non- political. I rarely work outside of faculty of science, but ya pretty non-political there. I play squash with folks outside of science, non political there. Like most Canadian workplaces.

I’ll give you the MOST political I’ve ever seen it. I’m in a union. A group forced a debate on Israel/gaza. About 5 people on Gaza side debated 3 people on Israel side for a couple hours.

I had fun tho. I mean its always bad faith with you. You can't even agree to my one small point that university's in Canada are left leaning and might influence you subconsciously. its fun to get under your skin for sure. unions are great!

That's quite the back pedal - I don't think I'd accuse anyone else of arguing in bad faith if I were you for a good month or so.

Look, you said something really stupid. Despite having no idea what you are talking about, you seem to be insistent on sticking with some watered downed version of that stupidity. If you think laughing at your stupidity is "getting under my skin", well, you're about as wrong about that as you are about your caricature of universities.

That's why you didn't just let it go and edited posts. ;P. im not even sure what your saying anymore tbh. Like what do those two quotes even prove. It kind of supports my point. we were talking about how you a university professor is more likely to be left leaning and you were talking about how math nerds don't talk politics? Like what's even happening. of course you and your colleges are left leaning or surrounded by left leaners . Whats the big deal my dude why make a wall of nonsense .Statistics show this even if your in a weird group that is not (which is super unlikely since your the most active left leaning Canadian poster on an internet forum) All university's lean hard left. You were a always Trudeau guy. thats top 10% which was my entire point. Sure he might have got more then 10% of votes but alot of those were reluctant votes. Yours would not have been. You were at the front of the line

Of course most professors lean left just as farmers lean right

Anyone prepared to vote for Trudeau if he ran again is extreme left
Anyone that believes in the chemical castration of children is radical left
Anyone that believes in men in woman’s sports is radical left
Anyone that believes men can get pregnant is just nuts
I mean your a university professor the most left leaning job in the world

you a university professor is more likely to be left leaning
Let's ignore the furious backpedalling, or your unwillingness to "let it go". The simple fact is the caricature of academia you have in your mind is silly, and this idea that I'm unable to understand how "far left" I am because I'm surrounded by lefties is pathetically stupid. Like most jobs, the participants in those jobs often will have a political slant - and no university professors in general are not the most left leaning job "in the world" - but as has been explained to you my workplace is pretty far from political and your entire thesis is false.

You were a always Trudeau guy. thats top 10% which was my entire point. Sure he might have got more then 10% of votes but alot of those were reluctant votes. Yours would not have been. You were at the front of the line

Lmao after failing so badly above, you're going to try to soul read me again?

Anyone that believes men can get pregnant is just nuts

This is head-in-the-sand stupid. People - like me - who say "men can get pregnant" are OBVIOUSLY saying that trans men, who are biologically female but identify as male, can get pregnant which is just OBVIOUSLY true. Pretending that we're saying anything else and then calling that nuts is a level of pretending to not understand basic things.

Than say trans men can get pregnant but nope .

It’s one of the reasons the Dems lost . Radical crazy thoughts

Why? Isn't it completely obvious from context? There's nothing crazy or radical about the banal observation that trans men can get pregnant. I shouldn't have to endlessly say "trans" to anti-trans activists who will go around accusing people of "radical crazy thoughts" if you don't clarify it for them.

Just stop playing stupid word games and if a trans person wants to call themselves a man that's 100% fine, they don't need to always add in the adjective "trans" for your approval.

whos the next biggest left leaning poster after uke? montreal? even he seemed to not be voting Trudeau lmao

Buddy if your interest in rank ordering the half dozen people in a dead internet thread in a dead forum as your way to measure how relatively left I am you could, ya know, just ask. I’m proudly on the left, it doesn’t work as an accusation you sneakily uncover.

Although weirdly you seem to associate that with Trudeau, former leader of the center-left party. Like if “far left” means “supporting Trudeau” you got your wires more crossed than you did about academia

Was watching some of the cuts from CTV News and the fact that if Canada dropped all interprovincial trade barriers how big an economic effect it could have . Carney promised to get this done but it looks like the two holdouts may be BC and Quebec . Sad when it’s easier to trade with other countries than provinces
Will see if Carney gets it done

Trade barriers are part federal and part provincial jurisdictions. To his credit, Trudeau removed a LOT of the federal ones with his Canadian free trade agreement. One of those underhyped but quite excellent things he did. That had some carve outs for political reasons of that era. So carney can probably remove most of those remaining carveouts. But some of the provincial things like different regulations from different provincial health authorities for medical supplies are the type of thing that aren’t as easy to even identity let alone fix them all in one swoop from the federal level.

Where u get your News really …
Do you have QuebecDS ?

QUEBEC — Quebec takes first step in dropping interprovincial trade barriers

Responding to the call to open up the Canadian economy, Quebec plans to authorize the sale and consumption of goods made in other provinces and territories in Canada without having to go through Quebec’s manufacturing and production regulatory hoops a second time. And a worker certified by a regulatory authority in another province to practise a trade or profession can apply to the equivalent Quebec agency without any requirement to take additional training or exams. The exception would be construction workers because Quebec’s certification process is too different from that of the rest of Canada.

But the bill, which is not yet law, nevertheless takes a go-slow approach and won’t be applied until the government has adopted the regulations enacting it. That allows ministries and organizations to say now which restrictions they would prefer to keep in place.

And Quebec is not watering down its language laws in the name of free trade, either. The first article of Bill 112 states: “It in no way limits the application of the provisions aimed at protecting the French language.”
