This is a good point. It’s either no socks with short length pants, or the longest socks you’ve ever seen with sandals. All terrible.
Both the sets of stairs in my house are split and unequal number of steps between the sections. I just figured that's how things were built to cover the necessary height.
My wife always counts steps and it upsets her world when this happens. We were recently going up the side of a steep hill in a park. We stopped at a landing about 2/3 the way up and I asked (without saying anything else), "how many?" She said something like, "18, 23, 16, 21, 9, 12, 19. They couldn't even get two sets to match."
Oh man, I love her.
I assume all these stair counters have been correctly diagnosed as autistic?
Reminds me of my older brother. Apparently as a child, he would line up all his Hot Wheels in a perfect line by color. My parents said they got a real kick out of changing the order when he wasn’t looking and laughing when he would cry about it.
Years later, mom would admit that she would never get any of us tested because she didn’t want us getting diagnosed.
This weekend we're going to some baseball games. We've drove down every year since we moved here when my team is in town. I always use the same parking ramp. Elevators are too slow so we always take the external stairs. Every year she has to comment that the steps go (from the bottom up) 23, 19, 12, 15, 15, 15. That the 23 and 19 aren't both 21 and they stuck the 12 in there causes her to comment every year.
Not my wife. Counting steps is the only thing she does that would remotely put her on the spectrum.

As a "two steps at a time" climber, I make a mental note of if a staircase that I use has an even number or an odd number of steps. There is nothing worse than coming to the top with only one step left and massively over-stepping out of habit. If odd, gotta get that singleton out of the way at the bottom.
