The fact that Washnigton DC is under federal jurisdiction, so any crimes committed there can only be prosecuted federally, and therefore pardoned by the president (or not prosecuted at all because lol at the notion of an independent DOJ under Trump) is beginning to seem like a bit of a leak in the system of checks and balances.
The leak is the pardon as it is. Various states fixed it in various ways.
You can require a board to doublecheck the determinations of the president. You can remove the option to issue blanket pardons before convinction. You can require at least X time to have passed since conviction.
As for DOJ independence, lol in general at the idea that any institution with any power in any society can be independent if democratically selected.
It can be separated and distinct from other powers (so independent from the executive say). But not independent from politics , unless you decide to have it be selected undemocratically. Which is a whole lot other can of worms and doesn't necessarily always end well.
Start preparing a normal, qualified candidate who can run against the Republican candidate. Disqualify far left candidates and you may have a chance.

That the power to set tariffs is a power the constitution gives to congress exclusively.
Congress in an incredibly stupid (and potentially unconstitutional) way delegated it to POTUS with various laws decades ago.
Congress can pass a law at any time removing all those powers.
And tariffa are what Trump is using to create troubles.
