No tariffs or any kind of political opinion is going to stop me from living my life and prevent me from doing something I like to do. I don't think it's about politics or tariffs. It's about bullying and abuse. Canadians are boycotting USA because of the aggressive 51st state **** . Other countries like NZ have updated travel advisories to USA because of changes in customs since January. 17 people from NZ experienced problems in the first 3 months of this year. The new policies seem to be mostly scanning electronics for anything critical of USA, detaining anyone who mentions work, and detainees may be placed in general prison population for an indefinite amount of time.
Common sense says LV customs won't detain people traveling to WSOP, but there's nothing common or sensible anymore.

Do we know how many people experienced problems in the first 3 months of 2024 and how many total people from NZ flew into the US in the first 3 months of this year?
Pre-Covid numbers show roughly 300k visitors from New Zealand to the US per year, so roughly 75k per quarter? 17 out of 75.000 would be 0.02% or 1 in 4400. Does that seem accurate?
Re conferences moving to different countries: Are there any numbers how many moved out of the US? Personally, I know of 3 people who won't fly to conferences in Vegas this year because their employer canceled participation or travels with a smaller team but no one who is traveling to a different country because of a move in location.

"Typically, we would see 14-25 cases per year..."
Enough for them to update guidelines.
From people who are organizing conferences I've talked to, they are being scheduled elsewhere to ensure attendees feel safe. Even US based orgs are seeking better locations.

Why is it that (with a few exceptions like say donjonnie ) the posters with brand new accounts that also only seem to post under political topics seem to be the most upset, concerned, and intent on fear mongering the situation.
Again its an fairly easy fix to avoid almost any chance of issues.
Want to be 100% safe obtain a B-1 visa instead of traveling on a ESTA should do it. Or unfortunately stay home and just play EWSOP.

If people start to get the impression they should better apply for a B-1 visa because the VWP might not cover them anymore, that would have a much bigger impact on travel than anything that's happened so far.
On top of the $160 fee, people need to go to an interview at an embassy/consulate. As someone who has done that I can safely say that's nothing you want to do unless you really have to. As someone who had to spend time inside the deportation area of a mayor US airport, I can safely say that's no location you want to hang out at.

I stand corrected when I refer to it as an "easy fix" . You are absolutely correct it is a much more detailed process but I THINK it might be the proper legal status for a Professional Player. Im familiar with many of the rules but I a FAR FAR FAR from an expert and do not mean to infer that I am.
My French wife has once detained/delayed in a side room for a Q and A traveling on a US Green Card a over a decade ago but she hadn't then (nor has she yet ) mastered the smile and be nice approach after a long flight.
Once everything was found to be in order she was excused and went on to her connecting flight. There is no doubt the CBP like detail, like to see return airline tickets, and confirm hotel or residency points.

USPS lost my green card and I had to travel on an expired one.
I highly doubt going forward there's a huge number of people from the western world who won't travel to the US for political reasons. I think for Europeans the two most popular travel destinations outside Europe are Turkey and Egypt. Both under authoritarian government. But if people start to wonder if they should apply for a visa instead of using the VWP, that would have a big impact.

Sure, depending on the market international travel can be somewhere between huge and not a big deal. It should be noted that a few months ago 2025 was projected to be a record travel year and now it’s not projected to match 2024.

TripAdvisor reported that they were down 8 percent revenue from Q1 last year so travel in general is downÂ…consumer confidence perhapsÂ… also the CBP officer doesnÂ’t have to admit you even if you applied and had a non immigrant visa stamped in your passportÂ…

Assume that’s world wide since it’s Trip advisor but just saying that travel is down this year. I also agree that the US policies are hurting US tourism but also the worry that we might all go into a recession has to weigh on people as well…still going to enjoy my domestic travel to Vegas so :shrug:
Yeah, I wasn't sure if your source was Vegas specific. We may or may not have a major recession, but plenty of people are already spending like we're in one which has had a major impact on travel.
