President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Yeah, turns out the cult accusations were true. Who could have possibly seen this coming? The righties have had their sense of self slowly chipped away and carved out so that all is left is "owning the libs". Zero principles, no cohesive world view, no hopes or desires for themselves or the country. Just whatever they are told to think when they are told to think it. Wild s

I was trying cone up with a post something like this but you nailed it.

As bad as I think tariffs are trump's tariffs are likely going to be a net positive because they finally got dems to admit that taxes are bad for the economy. It is hard not to like cutting people off of snap who are able-bodied but refuse to work, increasing the age when we let people off the hook from the work requirements of snap from age of 54 to 64 , making education more

Democrats have always believed regressive taxes are bad.

Democrats have always believed regressive taxes are bad.

which is why Biden never removed the Chinese tariffs trump put in his first term, added 100% tariffs to Chinese EVs, and put insane tariffs on mattresses built in foreign countries (including Italy)?

by Didace

How are you able to differentiate them from the non-useful idiots?

easily. check the long term plans they act toward.

project 2025 plans are very very very good (and decades long projects) in most cases for example.

federalist society plans are good and already delivered the best court in 90 years (it can still improve) by a huge margin if you are actual right-wing.

pro quality immigration people exist.

then there are maga nativists, maga marxists, collectivists for "whites", IE the subhuman trash both parties have to take in the boat to try to win when the horrific disaster of universal democracy exists.

those low IQ low education collectivists and emotionally driven lumpenproletarian need some bone to chew while the real people take the real decisions

So my theatre received notice this week that our grant from the National Endowment for the Arts has been revoked. "Funding is being allocated in a new direction in furtherance of the Administration's agenda. Your project, unfortuntately, does not align with these priorities"

The part of our theatre project that no longer aligns with Trump's priorities and caused us to lose our grant:

Thank you for responding to him. I couldn't decipher what he was even asking.

The discussion on tariffs is almost as depressingly poor ast he one on marx

It's far more important. The big winner from tariffs which most people wont notice for maybe a decade or so is 3D printing. Of all the emerging transformative technologies; AI, robotics etc etc, that one is bubbling away quietly.

I quit X after the election because it's just a cesspool of stupidity on both sides but I hopped on for a few minutes today to get news on a tornado in St. Louis by my old house and holy ****.Comey is essentially trolling MAGA with the 8647 and MAGA has all of their panties in a bunch rubbing the sand in their vaginas. No worries that 8646 is a thing(?) but 8647 is straight to

Sorry to hear your grant got revoked.

That said, the NEA shouldn't exist in the first place imo.

The NEA is .000003% of the federal budget

What issues could you possibly have with the NEA?

by mongidig

Well well well!!

What a difference a month makes. The stock market is booming. Trump is making deals with the biggest players. Trump is transforming the Middle East. The border is under control.

Meanwhile the big story right now is just how far gone Biden was as President. The same people saying bad things about Trump voted for the Dementia patient Biden. How humiliating!!

Biden wasn’t the on the ballot…

Great trip for Trump in the Middle East. They love him in Saudi Arabia. He got a standing ovation on several occasions.

It's nice to see a President actually out getting historic things done. We used to go weeks without seeing Biden.

Yes, very good, and he even had time for a photo op to show us how policy is made.

“The stock market is booming” really sure looks like it tanked and has barely recovered to what it was 6 months ago.And by the way, if trade deals are so good (ie free trade) why were Trump supporters talking about tariffs as if they would be great for the economy and bring back jobs? Why are we negotiating deals? we should be keeping the tariffs where they are.

Tariffs may be a bit too archaic for this economy, but maybe not, idk.

But couple things...

1) Imposing tariffs obv rebalances trade relationships but it's essentially used to gain leverage in negotiating terms that work in your favor. Trump may understand this so negotiating down to 30% from 145% on China goods is more about settling in on price with a reckless overton window shift than it is a concession.

2) Tariffs affect the largest companies in the world a bit more than the ones that don't move the needle. When the 3 trillion dollar Amazon falls 30% due to tariff news, it isn't so much representative as the health of the average worker and their situation as much is it is that Amazon just isn't able to capitalize on the massive volume and potential earnings to make money off of foreign products. **** em.

3) The entire bull case for tariffs is that it can spark demand for locally/community orientated products, which in turn drives production, which then can lead to price reduction. Generally, that adds jobs but I think things are complicated there. The kryptonite of someone like Amazon is that they sell huge quantities at super low costs from overseas, these tariffs allow smaller companies to sell the similar products thatr are sources locally more competitively. Thats a good thing, because I don't want the entire economy to continue to solidify where we have only amazon walmart and Tesla as our options.

Like chez alluded to, competition is everything in maintaining favorable prices to help us poor people. Because at this stage in the game, the big giants operate like a govt run entity without competition and we are at the mercy of w/e the **** they decide to do. So the stock market falling as a result of those companies having their earnings cut, isn't exactly equal to all the businesses that serve that aren't listed on the exchange.

Which is irrelevant to my opinion on the matter.

What issues could you possibly have with the NEA?

Arts funding seems well beyond the purview of the federal government. It seems to violate the concept of subsideration (i.e. government funding should be as 'local' as possible).

Of lesser importance, but not irrelevant, to my opinion on this matter is that most modern "art" is awful. (Not saying that Crossnerd's production wasn't wholesome and wonderful, since I don't even know what her production was.)
