Balanced airball vs italian unknown?
1/3 NLHE 8 handed
Table is fantastic. We haven't played in awhile and were put on another table but immediately transferred here because of V1 and a few other players. Most hands are cold opened for 20-30$ and flops are going 5-6 ways. 3-bet pots are going 3-4 ways with multiple cold callers. Lots of deep stacks. A couple Vs are blind raising pre. I have a tight image.
V1 - Mega maniac whale in our room. Mostly irrelevant for this hand. 200$ UTG.
V2 - unknown italian man. Seems sort of quiet. Have less than an hour with him and he's been limping and calling a bit, nothing too interesting. He's run up a stack and covers me. Covers BTN.
We have just sat down with 500 and our stack has gone down to 330 and up to 650 and back to 500, so we're 500 eff with BTN from LJ.
----
V1 straddles UTG, H sees K♠ Q♦ from LJ and opens to 25, V2 calls BTN, V1 calls UTG.
Aside - V1's VPIP is 100% without exaggeration, he has ATC here.
Flop 75 - 7♠ 5♠ 2♥
V1 check, H check, V2 bets 20, V1 folds, H x/r to 100, V2 thinks a bit and calls
Turn 275 - 3♣
H checks, V2 checks
River 275 - K♣
H checks, V2 bets 100, H calls...

Why are we check/raise bluffing the flop?
Why are we going into bluff catching mode on river when hit?
With the straddle, I think we can open to 30+.
What's V range after the turn check/check? I think some draws, some marginal hands like 7x 5x, 88/66 etc. Only monster hand we can think of is 46ss, other strong hands I don't think people slowplay unless they're super tricky/trappy.
When V range is marginal hands, yet we go into bluff catching mode on river.
I probably bet like 300 myself.
Once he bet 100, his range is air heavy some 7x / 88 type hands(thin value) and super rarely 46ss. We can just check/ship vs this. Yes it seems crazy.

Open raise from LJ with KQos is good here, but more. With straddle I’m going $30 standard but with the UTG straddler being who he is I may make it $35.
As played to flop I also check flop here. I don’t check raise. I fold to BTN and move on to next hand. I don’t like the check raise very much at all. It’s not terrible terrible but definitely closer to being bad than good imo and just dont think it’s a great play. With A spades slightly better but still wouldn’t do it then.
As played to turn I like the check. He already called so I’m not looking to donk off my stack when Villlain already put in a chunk.
As played to river, I check here with King. A bet is okay but I prefer a check. Then I think a call is best. Obviously not raising and folding doesn’t seem great…however personally not getting put in this spot because I would have avoided a pot being built with the check raise. The problem with a check raise is it leads to weird spots and weird lines. Take the guess work out and limit the speculative donks with air.
Note: didn’t read any other posters before posting thoughts so I’m not biased.
What are you representing with the checkraise? AA/KK, 77/55/75s? This flop is bad for your range as the preflop raiser.
I thought about that after ^ .. what hands do I have that want to check raise this small bet OTF (TT+?) and then check a mostly blank turn card 3c... smells like I have a flush draw.
yeah checkraising this as the preflop raiser looks like a flush draw. Maybe you can take it if the flush hits, but just folding the flop seems better. You completely missed the flop and it is a bad flop for your range.

we call river and V has 44.
I limp in preflop.
I check/fold the flop.
I also check (to fold) the turn.
Against bluffy players I'd be on board with a check to bluffcatch on this busted draws river. Against a quiet uninteresting guy who hasn't done anything I'd more bet/fold the river very small (as it doesn't look like he has much). As played, I guess we took the first route, so I call.
ETA: Spoiler reveals why flop play seems horrendous to me at what I'm reading as a pure value only table.
