Did I miss some memo somewhere where "I'm coming to Vegas to play in the World Series of Poker" is suddenly not allowed?

you know why this might be a riskier thing to say than it used to be

No, and neither do you.

Were you not on here during Covid? This is child's play compared to that.

No. Up until a couple weeks ago, I hadn't been on this site in probably 7 years or more.

I too require an explanation

if you're flying in to vegas from out of the country you go through customs in vegas right? i seriously doubt telling CBP in vegas that you're in vegas because you want to play poker is going to be concerning at all. they hear the same thing like 100 times a day.
it's "possible" that coming in with more than $10k in cash is a problem. this is also a possibility in virtually every country i've gone to. i went to two other countries to play pokerstars tours last year. just bring $10k in cash so you have some walking around money and fund your tournament buyins with a card or ACH/bank wire. make sure you have a return flight booked, get one with changeable dates. know the address of where you're staying, or at least the name of the hotel. people having anxiety for no reason.

main thing is just don't have an attitude. and be wearing clean clothes and showered so you don't look like a homeless and don't be a nervous sperg that can't make eye contact, smile, and briefly state why you're in the country and how long you will be staying. i understand the first part is hard for europeans and the second is hard for online poker players, so if you're a euro stars grinder this is probably the toughest thing you'll do all summer. but it takes like literally 1 minute.

Want to be 100% safe obtain a B-1 visa instead of traveling on a ESTA should do it.

It is unfortunately true that if you give a customs airport or border CBP agent of the United States (or most other countries) a hard time you lose.
It is quite simple for them to make you go sit in a room and wait hours for a personal interview just because they CAN.

I am NOT NOT NOT saying its the right thing for them to do but it is absolutely LEGAL for them to do (at least in every country I have traveled including the US ).
Smile, be courteous, complete the forms properly and 99.95% of the time you will be on your way quickly and easily.

A lot of them are absolute pricks. But people staying home because of some 1 in a million chance something bad happens should never leave the house. That goes even more so for people who can't just act normal about their Vegas trip when they're asked what they're doing in Vegas.

I've had customs agents be pricks to me coming back into the US as someone who was born here. And you know what-I don't like it but I bite my tongue. It's not rocket science.

Yep Smile - suck it up for a minute - and go your merry way. They can be power drunk little men at times without a doubt BUT they have the power so it's just the smart thing to do to say please and thank you with a big shxt eating grin.
My French wife (U S citizen) learned the hard way since it's not in her nature but I or we (together) have never had an issue with US customs.

It's a lot more than just the chance of having to deal with some regarded American CBP agent who thinks everyone wants to illegally move to the US. I for one think the pain the lack of tourism will inflict can't be severe enough. The news that casinos are laying off people because of a lack of tourism is glorious.

But keep the copium up boys. It's hilarious to read.

I mean I hope Vegas gets absolutely slaughtered in the next couple of years so that's fine by me. Their sheer greed and nickel and diming is out of control and needs to be reigned in.

Amen. We are in full agreement. Even a shitty buffet was $40+ when I was there last. They used to be very cheap or basically free....

Vegas can certainly use an attitude adjustment for sure. I’ve always thought that the first major Strip casino that stopped the price gouging had the potential to make a killing.

But the miserable foreigners butthurt over American politics will probably end up disappointed. It’s like rooting for the NY Yankees to get relegated to minor leagues or fold. Vegas and WSOP will still be great even in periods where it might cycle downward, and no one is going to miss them one single bit.

You can repeat this to yourself all you want but reality is not agreeing with you. The recent round of layoffs are absolutely due to the impact of reduced tourism. It's not the only reason but it's definitely one of the reasons.

I guess you don't care cause you didn't lose your job which is fair enough.

For comparison, three nights at Horseshoe last year during Main Event for me was $347 after fees/taxes. I just booked the Paris for $300 after fees/taxes. Nice to see these prices coming down.

And then when economy picks up and/or landscape changes they get rehired or possibly take other jobs.

For example, Las Vegas is currently transitioning to become a mega sports giant. In addition to various championships and special events being held it’s getting a baseball team and probably an NBA team as well.

Pablito is going to be disappointed if he’s rooting for the demise of Las Vegas.

But no I’m not one of the 50 employees let go from Venetian or Resorts World. But Scotch cares about everyone, not just himself. But throughout the history of city employment has ebbed and flowed. Always going up long term, but never a straight path.

Prices in general can also fluctuate a lot. I've had tons of reservations over the years that I rebooked when prices dropped a lot.

Although this year March Madness was definitely cheaper than the last few years, and it's incredible how low room rates dropped Superbowl weekend.

100% concur, no one is crying over tanking euro misregs too butthurt to fly over, good riddance, +EV for WSOP!

Logic would dictate it's not only tanking euro misregs but plenty of recs too. Granted logic is too difficult for some of you here so I'm not surprised you're celebrating this.

Less than before.

Probably and there will be a chip on their shoulder. And then will lose it when they see their first “Gulf of America” hat

How many European pros are really going to skip the WSOP? I don't know of a single one I've recently talked to.

OTOH, I know a bunch of European recreational players (no high rollers though) who aren't going to Vegas this year for various reasons.
