Tom Dwan - the missing man
How convenient is it that he just falls off the face of the earth after issuing and bailing half way through a 50k hand
What exactly did you expose of me? That I accepted your HU challenge but then you want me to fly to an eastern-european casino to play 3 days a week?? Are you mental? (yes)
Everyone that does read this chat will read that I accept your HU challenge and we can play any site or stakes. I dont want to play live and have to wait 5 months because you are "busy with projects"(i sure do have with project you mean medication) in a casino that you know can accomodate a 400nl table for us that is being livestreamed (just read again what you wrote, you are truly insane). You are the only one dodging a challenge even though you have 1M in online winnings
π
Also, you are only ridiculing yourself. If you read your own last post again, does it read like valid statement made from a stable person??? Because it doesnt read that way for everyone else
You call other people grotesque, narcissistic and lacking in ethics and then spend the next few paragraphs ranting like a complete maniac
If one is a "flying monkey" its you
You cant believe in unproven fiction and tell everyone who doesnt they are "part of the system". I am sure the voices in your head can convince you of craziest things possible but if they want to convince a sane person you should come with with proven evidence at some point.
Anyway I am still waiting for our HU, which site do you choose? And can we please up the stakes, 400nl is a bit low for me.
Last thing Tom needs is this whack job Mark Banin visiting him and feeding his delusional conspiracy theories.Probably first thing he needs is some Zyprexa daily meds. But Central Middlesex can't hold him forever and once released he's again an adult on his own with no regular habits.Irrelevant of his debts, he either has a lot of money, or has access to others who will give him

Been lurking this thread recently following the recent psychotic episode. Out of all the posts Iβve read this is the one that resonates with me the most.
The reality of toms situation is it appears none of his βpokerβ friends want to know him anymore. Heβs being visited by conspiracy theorists like mark banin who is just adding fuel to the fire with regard to Tomβs current beliefs that the government is setting him up etc.
If Tom is under a section 2 (28 day stay) he will likely be out within the next 2-3 weeks (very rarely do they ever apply for section 3 which is 6 months inpatient stay). I fear for his future without a lot of support from his friends and family.
Tom, if you are reading this, I'd recommend you to follow the advice of the medical professionals, and take the proper meds.
Bobby Fischer wasn't mentally ill. Controversial but not crazy.
Tom likely going to have all the pond scum around him now that it’s super obvious how vulnerable he is. Best of luck, Tom, hope someone comes out of the woodwork to support. Not sure I’m close enough to Middlesex to provide aid
Meds are +EV.
This is very scary for Tom and his family and friends and fans. I don't think it's schizophrenia or bipolar, going off how old he is, but it could be something that makes us never see Tom playing poker again. When you break like this, you don't come back 100%.
Is there any evidence Tom is in debt? Or is it just rumors?
I think he snapped for real, at least a bit. Maybe a gradual process. Already 1972 he hated those cameras, but still had full playing force.
Should have accepted some treatment, him too.
He had a personality disorder which is medical terminology for being a person a lot of people donβt like but he wasnβt schizophrenic, thatβs media and pop culture exaggeration.
You canβt treat a personality disorder with meds and psychotherapy only works if the person is actually interested in changing, which he clearly wasnβt.
I think the only confirmed prior and/or existing debts that I've heard Dwan himself confirm were to Jungle (the infamous HU challenge), Haralabos (bearded for him in sports betting) and Jetten (if that's how you spell his name, anyway, one of Dwan's backed players).
I say prior/existing because he might have paid whatever he owed by now. I haven't been following any of this closely so there might be others. From memory, there seemed to be a few people come out in recent times (last 2-3 years) claiming Dwan owed them or warning others about him. Not sure if they were legit.
Some seem to think this breakdown was predictable or in a way almost inevitable. Whenever I've seen him play on TV/live streams he seemed his usual self. Maybe a bit awkward, eccentric in his own way, and despite obviously being a smart guy he was never really able to articulate his thoughts very well. But nothing to suggest, at least to me, that he was mentally ill (or on the verge). He was, until recently, universally respected, was he not?
Something must have happened to him very recently that's caused this. Even the idea that he plays too much, doesn't get enough sleep and maybe takes drugs is not convincing for me. That's a good portion of poker "pros" I know. Stressed, underslept, poor diet, dabble in drugs, drink...not everyone is Antonius.
It’s hilarious watching the debate swing from “Tom’s a broke, debt-ridden mess” to “Tom’s an eccentric multimillionaire poker prodigy.” My bet? He’s got zero assets, a credit score that could be mistaken for his shoe size, and a shoebox stuffed with IRS love letters labeled “Do Not Open—Too Depressing.”
Thought about if the new pope from 'murica could help Tom?
Probably mainstream medicine is the best though.

I say again, as someone who had a friend break schizo in his forties, just because something is less common doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Your friend took a ton of psychedelics over a short period of time though right? I don't think Dwan is the type of person to eat a whole zip of shrooms before getting on an international flight, that sounds like an absolutely horrible time.

How do you know it's the first time something like that happened to him?
How do you know he didn't have some signs or symptoms before?

He probably had a personality disorder, but he certainly had a lot of symptoms of schizophrenia. Having one doesn't mean you can't have the other. What's sure is he probably would have had a better life if he had medical help

Having some symptoms of schizophrenia is not the same thing as having schizophrenia. Being asocial and apathetic are both symptoms of schizophrenia, but they're also relatively common within the wider population of people who don't have a mental disorder. 'Better life' is also subjective, particularly in people who have a personality disorder. He could have very well said he enjoys mouthing off in the press more than he enjoys being polite and he doesn't care at all what you think would make his life better.
A lot of the accounts that make Fischer seem the craziest also come from Soviets and Soviet sympathizers, which was also a country notorious for using schizophrenia as a political diagnosis to defame people they didn't like, so you have to take all of that with a gigantic grain of salt as well.

Tom here, thanks this convinced me.
Underrated comment.
Confirmed busto.
