The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

As I kept saying, the platforms were 80% the same and most of us agreed on the majority of points but just had strong feelings about who the right person for the moment was.

Remember how the Libs were polling at like 15% or w/e a few months ago. Because we aren't all a bunch of partisan radicals. Then an obvious best candidate for the moment stepped up under that banner so a bunch of us moved back? And so far he's doing a decent start of focusing on all the things that 80% of us agreed on? Can we not just all be together on getting this **** done and stop the weird partisan bs?

I’m confident far right wing would understand and be happy the liberal choose competency over DEI by electing carney …. …

Half the country voted for Carney to be the right man in the room for dealing with Trump. It’s still super early - just one press conference - but that it seems to have worked out well is encouraging. I don’t really have any idea what your point is, but then you come from a point so deluded that you think poilievre should have acted even more trumpy in order to win.

If I had posted this Uke would tag this liar liar false false

Totally false for one they got 43.7% of the vote which is not 1/2 . Many CDNs also chose not to vote . They received 8.5 million votes which is not 1/2 the country

Uke admit you are wrong spreading false information

Not partisan radical , but side radical, given that at the end it was basically uniquely about the leftist vote converging. Even the insane actions and words by Trump didn't move almost anyone from left to the right or viceversa.

Trump had a massive role in convincing leftists for once to vote "in a useful way", ie the party that had the higher chances to win in every constituency. Which was a big effect.

But it was all about inter-left massacre of smaller parties. Something similar on the right with extremists being annihilated as well.

Still almost everyone stayed true to his side: 95-99% of people who intended to vote rightwing 3-6-12 months ago did so, same on the left.

So I watched the meeting last night and my conclusions are

Carney did a great job he stroked Trumps ego but also stood up to him in a tactful way not to offend him .

We can also say from the past not a chance Trudeau could do this

As for Pierre doing this we will never know he lost . Would someone compliment Pierre if he had done the same thing not a chance .

I am hoping Carney has more success and leads Canada into prosperity the next 4 years

just lol, the empty attempts from you guys are hilarious

Spoke how? I'm sure some people would be melting down at PP much the way you seem to be an ardent tribalist yourself.

Reasonable people have reasonable takes about our PM acting reasonably and it's making you spiral?

Saying he's transformative President, doing a great job for his country, securing his border, securing the world, etc. None of that was allowed to be said during the campaign.

Lmao at shifty just fundamentally unable to tell the difference between a campaign speech and tactfully meeting with the ever narcissistic (sorry “winning energy”😉 Trump in person. I think every person in Canada can see that for the obvious tactic it is, it’s not some liberal media conspiracy buddy.

Besides, the core message against Trump on the campaign trail wasn’t that you are never ever allowed to stoke his ego, it was what carney reiterated in person: Canada is not for sale.

by ArcticKnight

As for Poilivere, I just don't think he has the presence to pull it off. I am sorry, but I just can't envision Trump talking PP seriously.

I guess we'll never know. I'm not going to argue that he could, I think Poilivere is a dork and doesn't have what it takes to win. Carney appears to have that, his rhetoric during the campaign and yesterday were totally opposite. I also think it's pretty obvious that it was true Trump would rather deal with Carney and probably does take him more serious because of his past positions and Brookfield.

How many times did he say secure the border?

You're embarrassing yourself, just be honest and admit it was manufactured hysteria to win an election. I've said Poilivere dropped the ball because he handling it wrong. But maybe your TDS is so bad you have to convince yourself that Carney is playing 7D chess and was just "stroking his ego".

This goes back to your Day 1 Hour 1 confusion. Canadian anger at Trump wasn't "manufactured". It was very authentic, legitimate, ground-up anger at both the economic attacks that are costing people their jobs today, and the relentlessly stupid 51st state rhetoric etc. This all happened before the election. You can say Carney (and Ford) did a much better job of capitalizing on that anger and presenting the case that he was the best person to deal with your hero, but he didn't manufacture the outrage.

And lol yes Carney is OBVIOUSLY stroking his ego, that's tic tac toe level analysis not 7D chess. It's sad that your Dear Leader is such a ****ing narcissist that this **** works on him, but I guess that's what you mean by "aurora"?

this is negative IQ stuff, no wonder Trump appeals to you so much. It's diplomacy and negotiations...

False and a continued demonstration of your incessant need to assert yourself as "informed" about topics that you know almost nothing about.

If this were all true, we would have seen a consolidation around the NDP. Instead we saw one around the centrist nationalist platform from the most center party. Much like in the USA, we actually saw quite a bit of left swing into right. It's not the binary left and right (well there is a huge binary right ofc as radicalization continues. See Shifty) but rather the argument of status quo versus change. It became the center versus the right.

Which is, of course, stupid because the platforms had many similarities.

The thing is MOST canadians are not political partisans. The types of people really dialed into american news and posting on politics forums and **** sure, they usually become polarized. But the average person has neither a seething hatred or devout loyalty to the liberals or any other party. Which is why you can have a bunch of previous liberal voters vote CPC and a bunch of previous NDP/bloc/green voters vote liberal, and heck probably a bunch of NDP->CPC voters in the mix as well.

Oh ok, because I recall prior to the election counter tariffs, threats and cringe videos of taking American booze off shelves. Didn't see much diplomacy.

by uke_master

This goes back to your Day 1 Hour 1 confusion. Canadian anger at Trump wasn't "manufactured". It was very authentic, legitimate, ground-up

Sure it was. Not that people weren't angry, but the hysteria was manufactured. It's why people like you were beating the war drums since it all started. I don't think it's a coincidence the demographic that watches mainstream news for background noise all day also views Trump as the number 1 issue for the election.

I don't even know what point you think you're trying to make. So the anger of the Canadian people was legitimate when they were attacked by Trump - but that anger was uh.....manufactured into a hysteria? Ok buddy. While for me personally long term issues like the environment were still more important, I 100% get why for many, many Canadians Trump was the #1 immediate election issue. That's totally fair!

But let's check back in on your Day nonsense. Remember when you 100% bought into the pretext on Day 1 that this was just about securing the border to stop fentanyl? And when the already miniscule amount dropped by a staggering amount, and trump launched world wide tariffs against basically everyone, that narrative just sort of.....vanished? Is it time to admit that BS had next to nothing to do with the tariffs?

?

Of course in the face of aggression, you consolidate, unify, respond, and negotiate with diplomacy. Not one intelligent person is angry or feels played?

like what are you talking about or what point do you think you are making? You are just a confused zealot.

I find it funny that both you and Uke seem to attack Shifty personally as he supports Trump . I for one do not as he has crossed the line on a few items even though he has implemented some really good policies . Even DOGE I support but if they had done it a little more slowly and started with the department of defense

Would you not call someone that would have supported Trudeau for a fourth term a confused Zealot? Even a third term

AS for the Conservatives I think Andrew Scheer has really matured into government and was not ready as leader when he ran he sure seems to be now

im confused sucking up to trump is what was expected no? hes not justin so he might get along it was always the play. Trump had this obvious hatred to justin which is why he needed to go. obviously its not what the liberal swing voters wanted but they are stupid 65 year old boomers so we dont care

I have a threshold for suffering stupidity that is probably not generous enough. It's a personal flaw.

I would call anyone with a reductive and dogged position a zealot. There is/was a lot of anti Trudeau zealotry out there but I didn't see much pro side (typical of centrist parties). So no, I wouldn't have called people who voted for Trudeau "zealots" because there wasnt much of a cult there. He was fairly big tent and honestly tried to represent all stakeholder positions. Yes he failed many, specifically re: economy but I can uderstand how many people would have felt he was their best representative.

by uke_master

I don't even know what point you think you're trying to make.

That leading up to the election there was no deplomicy. It was we are in a trade war we need to fight, people were wrapped up in the hysteria and lighting 5k on fire cancelling trips, etc. Now that the election is over the rhetoric has shifted to deplomicy.

by uke_master

How many times did Carney say secure the border? He even mentioned how Canada plans to do more about fentanyl.

by jchristo

That if I asked you what you wanted Carney to say in the first meeting with Trump in front of the world it probably wouldn't have been what he said yesterday. It's pretty simple only a zealot wouldn't admit that.

by Shifty86

well its pretty clear that you are severely misinformed about what I wanted due to your radicalization. You have a lot of assumptions that are proving wrong. Perhaps its time to consider why.

I think most Carney supporters thought he would be the adult in the room to develop and negotiate Canada's markets. We saw a good first indication of his ability to do that tactfully with the US....leading the horse to obvious mutually beneficial outcomes. And you think this isnt what we wanted? You are lost in some kind of bubble my friend.
