My claim is people who make a living in poker are to be always expected to side with the candidate that is more rightwing on the economics and it's incredible to think otherwise, including if the candidate is Satan, because the essence of poker is being a cynical emotionaless selfish rational bastard and to profit from human weakness around you.

I personally don't see the connection between playing poker and any particular view on macroeconomic policy. But most people consider more things than just economics when deciding what political candidates to support. Many people (including myself) also have believed that Trump is a crackpot with crazy ideas on economic policies which were likely to lead to a recession, which seems to be happening now. You have criticized Trump's economic policies many times on here, but that didn't make me think you were now an economic leftie.

As well as the fact that, IME, the biggest whales in poker are very wealthy older men who skew towards support of right-wing candidates. Relieving them of some of their wealth certainly could be supported by someone with leftie economic views.

The problem with tryng to consider it that we assume trump is a moron. That make it moronic. However threatening tariffs on films could be a very rational thing to be doing. There's also a quite likely middle path where the words come from people who aren't morons but then get mangled by trump (like bleach/sunlight on covid)

If the usa wanted to more concessions from the UK on beef/chicken/tax/regulations etc that are being discussed in then it makes sense for film tariffs brought up. Firstly we do blatently pay usa film makers to come here and secondly it's a very important industry for us that could be easily wiped out.
