I've been contemplating this recently, whether or not this is what we deserve, whether I should revel in the suffering of America after what it has done. There was a time when you could make a better case that, for whatever evil the U.S. was doing, that what it did represented the best case scenario if you subscribe to the philosophy that everybody sucks and it's always going to be a dog-eat-dog world. So you'd view someone like Obama as an extremely cynical pragmatist while he is drone striking weddings because the cell phone linked to a young male who allegedly attended a suspicious meeting of men where, in theory, plans to attack the U.S. one day could have possibly been discussed, was picked up as present at said wedding. This was somehow all connected to a process of securing control of resources and that was connected to our lifetstyles and some people were going to live like this so it might as well be us. This is a disgusting philosophy but you could call it cynical realism.
What do you call mass killing Palestinians because they are Palestinian? What political philosophy justifies kidnapping people and sending them to foreign slave prisons?
I keep coming down on the side of us deserving everything Trump is doing to this country, even gutting the CDC. We deserve to be hit with plague and pestilence like some biblical people who betrayed God, and at the hands of someone who claims they have brain worms and talks constantly in a manner as if they are in the midst of releasing a giant excremental sausage. Like I said, the difference in activism (and general concern for the outside world) between the two is enormous. This is a known fact. You can sarcastically dismiss reality as much as you want, but the truth remains that Obama cares 1000x more about being a celebrity than furthering any political causes.

I didn't list all the sins of our empire but - let me be clear - the Ukraine war is another sin we've committed for which we would be held accountable in a just world. All of the dead Ukrainians are ultimately properly attributed to the U.S. proxy war against Russia. And all the decades it is going to take to rebuild Ukraine is on us too. Come to think of it the future role of a rebuilt Ukraine as a technocrat controlled slave state where the West goes for cheap labor and to experiment with oppressive top-down social control - that's on us too (unless we decide to just waste literally "the last Ukrainian" taxing Russia).
The Ukraine war was never about what the Ukrainian people wanted. The ethnic Russian Ukrainians were politically suppressed in the 2014 coup. Years later Ukrainians elected a man running on platform built explicitly around peace with Russia. And before that the Ukrainians elected a government which rejected an economic partnership with the West that amounted to never ending crushing austerity. The U.S. made it such that the voices of all Ukrainians could not be heard or would be betrayed. We don't even know how many Ukrainians have died in this calamity because these same forces who started the way maintain an authoritarian control over our access to information needed by a Democratic society. They get a bunch of people killed for vague political and nakedly corrupt ends and then refuse to say how many, as if they don't matter.
We chastise the Ukrainian government for not further lowering the draft age so that yet more Ukrainians can be thrown into the meat grinder. Why? Because Russia has to pay to maintain the meat grinder. We are sacrificing Ukrainians to inconvenience Russia with meat grinder bills. Thinks about that. Think about where in your analysis of things is the consideration of human life. Or, more to the point, think about where it should be because it is totally absent right now.
