I really liked Gone Baby Gone too but haven’t seen it in a while. I think I have the Blu Ray so will revisit.
Ex Machina is in my top… 50, maybe 25. Big fan of Oscar and Domhnall in general.

Mystic River really shows the value of standing by your man, doesn’t it? That was the real shocking grief scene; MGH stumbling after the parade float, not Penn screaming in the park. Linney saying “Imagine ratting out your husband” to Penn as they watch out the window after the makeup sax, beyond brutal. Probably a good test watch for a prospective wife! 😃
I kind of agree with both sides since this thread is fairly liberal and academic, which I appreciate, but I do not find it snobby. Amelie is one of my favorite movies. I love her pranks and the sense of optimism that radiates throughout the movie.
I hate when directors break the fourth wall and unwittingly force me into being a Turing Test subject.
What can I say, it's about the same as being forced into the life of a mouse caught in a maze of horror while holdup in a haunted Hotel up high on a snow covered mountain.

Amelie is a miracle of a movie. Love it
Gone Baby Gone is a better movie than Mystic River, but both are great.

I’ve seen both a couple of times and they’re thoroughly enjoyable. The cast is great and the tricks are fun to see unfold. I don’t remember a single plot point in either one but I think the 2nd movie’s plot is kind of batshit. Very much looking forward to the third, but I’ll wait until streaming.

We really need a dating & movies thread. My first date with my ex-wife: Crocodile Dundee was sold out, so I steered us into Platoon. Told my buddy about it afterward and he explained what a horrible choice that was, but I still don't think so.
Next movie we saw was the 4th or 5th date, free showing of Blue Velvet at the Texas A&M student center. And again my choice was doubted by some.
Yes, she's an ex now, but movies played no role in the divorce. We both loved movies, watched zillions together. Had 20 pretty good years!
Guy I worked with back in the midwest and his future wife went to this on their first date...

We've lost touch, but at the time I moved, they'd been married ~10 years and had a couple of children. Seemed to be going well.
I'm a huge fan of magic, and it just dawned on me (after hearing about the 3rd one) that I've never seen any of the Now You See Me movies.
Are they any good, or at least entertaining?
I thought the first was barely ok...they cheat at the magic tricks and that pissed me off.
The 2nd one is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
The King's Man (2021)
Not bad prequel regarding the origins of the Kingsman intelligence unit, albeit a bit inconsistent tone-wise. Not a patch on the first but better than the crappy second entry, with an amusing hammy turn from Rhys Ifans as Rasputin.
Interview With The Vampire (1994)
Revisited on impulse after it popped up on Netflix and it's still a great stylish film with an excellent turn by Tom Cruise who I can usually take or leave.
Bulletproof (1988)
The Awesomness that is Gary Busey is maverick cop Frank "Bulletproof" McBain (yes, McBain), so-called due to being apparently bulletproof, which is highlighted by him keeping all the bullets from previous failed attempts on his life in a jar in his bathroom, after removing them himself with the help of pincers 'n' whiskey, which is the only real way to remove bullets. He also finds time to play the sax on the beach because why tf not.
After a top secret US supertank is hijacked in Mexico by an alliance of "Cubans, Nicaraguans and Ay-rabs" (which is apparently how the word "Arabs" is pronounced in US Intel circles), it's up to Mcbain to save the day, which he does with gritty gusto, while bizarrely referring to various villains as "butthorn".
Also has Henry Silva as an evil Libyan Colonel, who sneers things like "In my country, women show respect", to a spunky Darlanne Fluegel, when he's not contemptuously bitch slapping Christians, William Smith as an evil Russian Major who wears a Russian furry hat in sunny Mexico and refers to everyone as "Comrade" and Danny Trejo as a drug dealer with an RPG, because Danny Trejo. 
This film is really bad...and entertaining af. The end.
Rewatched sinners, I realize it’s been on the hype train for awhile now but wow what a movie. It’s so incredibly original and just a blast to see in the theaters
Guess I’ve only seen this and furiosa in theaters over the last few years. Both top 10 all-time theater experiences for me
Sinners is being rereleased in 70mm IMAX again.... definitely worth the big screen viewing.

I went ahead and watch both after my post, and before seeing this one, but I was about 20 minutes into #2 and was going to argue that it wasn't... Then the scene with Woody's twin popped up and... Yeah, now I remember.. That flick is awful lol

I advise my students that a horror film on a first date is a great idea. Women will grab onto you, and men will be glad you did.
First date with ex-girlfriend was Altered States. It was a good decision.
First movie with my wife was Wings of Desire. She hated it, but about three days later said she couldn't stop thinking about it. I knew them she was the one.

My GF and I send each other funny Instagrams all day long and sometimes, I'll see what she sent me, laugh, and then send it back to her without thinking.
The new movie "The Surfer" is a trip. It so should have been called "Surfer Club," after "Fight Club." It is so much in the same vein ... part reality, part fantasy, part hallucination that you have to try to track. "Fight Club" as a title would have given it much more box office, imo.
I wonder if there would be an issue with copyright. Titles are not copyrighted per se, but if you piggyback on their concept and also their title, it might be an infringement issue. I bet it would be. Otherwise "Surfer Club" would have been no-brainer for this movie.
