President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
it's infinitely better to have partisan information on for profit platform, as that gives you the proper approach to judge it: always be skeptical, always presume bad faith motive in the agent giving you information.what's infinitely more dangerous is to have a source that is purportedly fair and unbiased, because of purported non-profit, tax exempt status and purported good in
Luciom you understand that making a bunch of unsubstantiated claims that are not systematically analyzed and only amount to the beginnings of speculations are not going to raise anyone’s credence, right?
Like we all understand this is how you see things, but you haven’t provided anything in the way of evidence that this is actually what’s going on.
Also, I would say that given that everyone and their mother has associated wikipedia with being an “unreliable source”, such that other encyclopedias are used as sources but wikipedia can’t be at most colleges/universities, I don’t think there’s this huge problem you think there is.
And NGOs don’t get the halo effect you’re talking about. Skepticism about NGOs is rampant! The idea that it’s not is a little weird to me.
So yeah if we’re basing this off your intuitions and speculations, I’ll just counter with my intuitions and speculations so we’ll get nowhere. Except I’m being more conservative and prudent than you because I’m not advocating for a radical change done for political purposes.
I’m not sure how you can force nonprofits to suddenly take on for-profit status. You can remove their tax exempt status but not everything that isn’t tax exempt is for profit. So that just seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding of corporate structure and makes me doubt you actually know what you’re talking about re: US corporate laws.
Also just as a point of clarification, who exactly ever in the history of anything said that nonprofits have to be unbiased? In fact being unbiased about topics is usually completely against their mission statements and their reasons for forming. Wikipedia may say they are attempting to add certain things to remove bias, but they will always have certain biases that can’t be removed, like a bias towards the free exchange of information, which is part of their founding mission statement.
I always assumed the social norms behind stopping for a funeral procession was to prevent people from getting lost on the way to the cemetery, and to deal with the natural issues of such a long line of vehicles getting chopped up by regular traffic mechanics and creating long delays in arrival times.
"Aunt Kathy was near the back, is she here yet?"
Meanwhile, Aunt Kathy lost sight of the vehicle she was following after not making a light, made a wrong turn, and both she and the 4 cars who were following her are now 15 miles in the wrong direction.
Nothing to do with respecting the dead guy.
It really pisses me off when I am expected to slow down or stop to let a funeral party pass by me, and I've cut into the middle of one before. If there's one thing which there is no hurry to get done, it's a funeral. Anything being done for a the benefit of a living person is far more important.
Wait, so you saw a slow moving traffic procession and decided to cut into it because you determined it was for a funeral? Like what if it was a construction convoy or something?
Also, not that I’m hating on your anti-funeral stance but they’re for the friends and family of the dead person, not FOR the dead person.

Funerals are held for the benefit of the bereaved.
I've met a few people IRL who liked to say some variation of "lol wikipedia, it's so unreliable, anyone can edit it", and without exception, these people were all idiots (for unrelated reasons).
It seems some posters don't realize Wikipedia has a full edit and version history of all its pages, which is accessible to anyone. You can also directly compare any two versions you want.
Luciom can literally show us all those previous iterations of a topic he claims was filled with falsehoods that mislead "normies", and he can even tell everyone for how long it was up.

JFC I'm a misanthrope, but even I respect funeral processions. What is wrong with you?
I'm never going to go for myself. The only way I can imagine myself going is if I am married or living with a long-term partner, someone very special to her dies, and she REALLY wants me to go.
Years ago the woman I was seriously dating had both her mother and father die within about 9 months. They both had out of town funerals and I went to neither.
I did go with her to the house either before or after the second funeral (can't remember which) to help sort a few things in the house and bring back the orphaned cats.
About 2 years ago the husband of my younger sister unexpectedly died while I was visiting. I tried to do whatever I could to help, but I didn't extend my visit to go to the funeral. She had lots of local friends stopping by, plus my mother came, and my brother was planning to come the day after I left. If she had no other family with her and she wanted me to, I probably would have stayed.

I was wondering about the possible benefits of being a tax exempt non-profit, which I had never thought of before. If a company makes no profits, wouldn't it owe no taxes anyway? I guess they could be exempted from property taxes, but those are paid on a local level, so I don't know why the federal government would control that.

Nonsense and again it explain why you don’t trust science much .
Bias sources or not does not matter as you think it does .
It’s the amount of all of it combine that counts .
Wiki is fine the way it is , the problem arises when someone only base his opinion on only one source like any foxnews viewers ….
But wiki is certainly a much better starting point then foxnews or any far left media source …
So your entire point about neutral sources being the most « dangerous » makes no sense at all.

Sure, but them being late for a funeral just seems to me less important than them being late for any other event. The honoree won't even know they were late.
I've always said when I die just chop me up into pieces and feed me to some starving dogs, i'll be dead ffs

Because they all had little flags on their cars and one of the first few vehicles was a hearse.
OK, well I can't judge that kind of thing without seeing it at the time it's a hot topic. But even if that is happening, I think it's silly to complain that Wiki is "allowing foreign actors to manipulate information and spread propaganda to the American public.”Wikipedia allows anyone to manipulate information there (in the very short run), and it's meant for use by anyone
Obviously true aka foxnews 700 millions + lost on diffamation.
how trust a source like that with no doubts at all and yet vast amount of Americans actually still do with no doubts at all .
Heh, if that was what he meant, I didn't get it. I doubt there will be a funeral held for me, but that's not for me to decide - I certainly won't be planning one on my own, or buying a coffin or a cemetery plot or any of that crap. I offered myself as an organ donor when getting my driver's license, so I expect I'll be shipped to a hospital if any part of me is deemed useful, then probably sent to be cremated. I would like my body to be helpful to the living if possible, but other than that I don't care at all what happens with it.
Because they all had little flags on their cars and one of the first few vehicles was a hearse.
Oh I get how you knew it was a funeral.
I meant were you saying that you decided to cut it because you knew it was a funeral as opposed to some other traffic condition. Which I think you answered.

Non-profit doesn't mean an organization makes no money. It means that "profits" aren't distributed to owners (in fact there are no owners) but are retained by the organization as an increase to net assets. Not making a "profit" is a sure way for an organization to fail.
Ho man the end lol …
