Mike Trout hit a homerun in the 1st inning today.

Paul Skenes has a run to work with heading into the 2nd.

OP is playing live poker again today.

Skenes 7 innings strong. I don't recall a single hard hit ball off his heater in either start.

Won at poker.

Winning at life.

How I lost $400 In A Hand Of Poker

old lady utg $12
2 calls
Hero $50 OTB KK
4 calls

734r ($250)
old lady 50
mp calls
hero all in 350
old lady tanks and calls
mp calls

turn and river changed nothing

lady has AA
mp mucks
hero has already fastrolled KK
hero loses the pot

hero is not a strong poker player
hero should find something else to spend his life on

year hourly: -$27/hr

Upon major construction work, it has been determined that KK is a flat versus old lady nit UTG raises.

I'm mad at myself for not realizing this ahead of time.

Looking into his eyes is like the first time I heard the Beatles.

I actually feel like writing today, but have nothing of the sort to share or write about.

Poker is going pretty badly. Not extremely bad or anything, but bad enough to question myself and feel "stuck".

It's possible I've underestimated my opponents.

I also don't play enough, still. This has been an ongoing problem dating back 15 years. Logging > 100 hours in a month feels like a Herculean task.

Which means I'm ****ed, because my winrate isn't that high to begin win.

Are you doing ok, Tuma?
Btw I lost my last weed streak in the 50s but now have a new one going at 8 or 9.
Oh and I just read an interesting new book called Unshrunk, a strong indictment of psychiatric meds by a longtime patient. My best guess is she's onto something but takes it too far. Mostly I just used blackout-style boozing for my crazy and that doesn't work so well either.

sup dude, things are going okay enough.

meds are a panacea when they work, and when they don't they can create a new frontier of agony.

never been much of a drinker here. always got terrible hangovers and it rarely felt like a cure for anything.

planning on signing up for Doordash again if they'll take me back. i was good at delivering food.

doing that a few hours a week is likely a great idea.

i'm booking a trip to vegas in June.

feel kinda defeated.

Where do we go from here, and what did you do with the directions??

I decided on taking off the rest of the month from poker.

It's gotten to the point where my dominant feelings are that I don't want to be playing.

Detroit regulars have the dryest personalities. It's as though they traded their souls for a lifetime of rake collection. I guess, I dunno, they're pleasant enough, I'm sure I wouldn't have an issue seeing them outside the casino. But nobody is having fun usually and it's just a bad vibe.

I didn't realize just how burdened I was with poker.

The first day of not thinking about playing is going great. I was invited to AEW wrestling show tonight, and I feel like the world is a wonderful tapestry of possibilities.

The urge to "play more" poker is gone. I am free from its shackles.

I made some money over the years. Had some good times. Made a few friends.

I would call that abject success.

I may return to the game someday. Odds are good, survey says yes, etc.

But unlikely before re-tooling my poker game.

I need to get coaching, or learn how to study.

I've subscribed to Upswing in the past...there's a wealth of knowledge on their site, but it's hard to absorb casually.

Gotta figure out a new plan.

Are you dead set on making a living playing poker? You seem like a smart capable guy who could find something that suits you better. And you're still relatively young.

There are a lot of unconventional ways to live that don't require a rigid 9-5-istic personality. Besides poker that is.

No I'm not.

I became obsessed with poker in high school during the boom, and remained obsessed for more than 20 years. I continued playing during the onset and throes of mental illness, however much I could, and continued up to this day.

Well yesterday, I mean. I've since quit playing. I expected there to be a terrible void whenever this day would come, but nope it feels amazing to not feel any pressure to play.

If you want to add advantage play slots to your repertoire, PM me and I'll get you started.

There was a psychology study, or idea, that we covered in high shool and it has stuck with me.

Someone wondered if smiling makes you happier, that it was not just a reflex for when you were happy.

I don't remember exactly what they found. But I have a feeling that actively smiling can improve your mood.

Yes, smiling can contribute to feeling happier. Smiling triggers the release of neuropeptides, dopamine, and serotonin, which can improve mood, reduce anxiety, and boost overall happiness. Even faking a smile can have a positive impact, suggesting a connection between facial expressions and emotional state.

I'm in Vegas for the next two weeks.

Playing 1/3 around town.

I saw Seidel, Polk, and I'm pretty sure Hastings.

Going to keep a list of the bossmen.
