Somehow threads merged, so here's part 4 of our ongoing movie discussion.
wow... just wow.
The Criterion newly released title, Night Moves... I had never seen it before.
Not quite The Conversation status, but it is pretty damn good.
I rewatched First Reformed and then chased it with an Affliction rewatch. I'd pick those 2 as my favorites of Schrader's. FR is just brilliant, even though I profoundly disagree with a lot of the ideas presented. And I guess I'm not fully down with Affliction's ideas either, love the drunk stuff but not so much the whole toxic masculinity line. Women can be pretty damn awful too, I'll tell you what. Btw, that To Leslie movie is almost as good as Affliction on the drunks. Ofc as complete movies Affliction >>> To Leslie.
Sinners:
I can’t remember ever wanting to stay in a theater to watch a movie again immediately after seeing it. It’s the best, most original, most fun yet profound movie I’ve seen in years. Helps to be a horror fan, but that’s such a small part of its greatness
And thanks SO much for the heads up about the post credit scene Dom. It brought the movie from a 11/10 to a 12.

Sinners is damn good. Instant classic. Go in cold, don't let anyone tell you about it. And then go see all the other collaborations between director Ryan Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan from Creed, Black Panther and more.
And me definitely jump at the opportunity to go see it

Well this thread has always been clicky and snotty, but when you manage to sort through which posters are worthwhile listening to/reading their comments, it remains golden info

Sinners is in a different league to Black Panther or Creed though. Those are conventional films done well. There's nothing in them which is close to the stylistic bravura of the music/dance sequences in Sinners. This is the most adventurous film Coogler has made.
This is essentially what my brother said when I was trying to persuade him to see Sinners. And he ended up really liking it. Creed and Black Panther are not good benchmarks. Neither is Fruitvale Station, albeit because it's in a totally different genre.

Kinda agree with Dubnjoy, with one modification: I like when you guys get into some detail about how to watch movies.
I'm very much the common movie-goer (except I hardly ever go. I need to work on that). For example, the discussion recently about sight lines (eye lines? I don't remember the term) was interesting to me, and I learned something that I would've never noticed as a regular guy. I appreciate the occasional educational discussions that happen here.

People who care more about film or are educated about it are going to be more likely to talk about it on an Internet forum than Joe shmo goin to the movies
Good taste is (to a point) good taste, whether it’s movies, food, art, you name it. Weren’t you a chef or something along those lines? You should know that the more you expose your taste buds to the better taste you have. I’m a total movie noob and I’ve posted about ridiculously bad movies I love (The Quest) and no one here bats an eye. There’s no “nature” to this thread, beyond that the most frequent posters happen to love film. It’s like going to a food thread and crying when the posters tend to like good restaurants
