President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

The one thing Trump had going for him was that people perceived him as being good on the economy.

Now that he messed that up I imagine his support will go down tremendously.

Buying the Presidents crypto is political speech and MuST be protected!

Not just buying but having access to the president directly as well through that method …

Just seem crazy to me his best result is about the rule of law and still below 50% of disapproval …

tbf this really isn't any different than how anyone else does it, cpac donation in some cases, speaking fee for others, buying crypto in this instance

You're forgetting that a lot of people like the racism.

i'm with you, my main beef with the hunter stuff is take away the meth and hookers and he's no different than the children of any other powerful elected officials

Don’t even need to take those away.

That’s the hardcore maga. The ~15% of the voting population he needs to make up the rest of his voting block values the economy and certain social issues as their reasons for voting for him.

It isn’t only hardcore MAGA that racism appeals to, come on.

He pretty much won his first election on anti Mexican and Chinese racism (with some drain the swamp thrown in for good measure).

The economy is just their excuse for voting for a racist. Window-dressing. There are more racists than you think.

Sadly this. ‘Economic anxiety’ is just shorthand for ‘I can’t say what I’m really voting for without judgement’

So Trump received the highest share of Latino and African American men of any Republican for decades because of racism?

I find that hard to believe that all of Trump’s support comes down to racism when many people said inflation was one of their big reasons for voting for him. I think having the opinion makes it very hard to convince more moderate people to vote for the further left candidate.

One of the thing to remember is that Immigration issues have dominated a lot of elections in Europe already. The reason the UK moved out of the EU was primarily because basically a slight majority of the UK were upset about all of the immigrants pouring in once they had been accepted in other EU countries (then they could travel anywhere in the EU). It didn't hit them that there would be massive economic problems once they removed themselves from the EU. Which has happened. Same in the US. People don't realize that a big part of inflation in 2021 was a result of the border being shut down in 2020. Tons of food was unable to be picked in the US so then prices on food went up. Same with cotton and clothing. Once Biden reopened the borders the US inflation dropped way below the other industrialized nations inflation.

Part of the Immigration issue is racism but another part of it is people not wanting their neighborhoods, towns, cities completely changed by incoming immigrants. In the early 1900's there was a huge backlash for Irish and Italian immigrants. Polish too if I remember correctly (and no I wasn't born in the early 1900's). That wasn't racist based but probably was ethnicity based. Just people in the US not wanting different and poor people landing in their areas and competing for jobs which would keep wages down and unemployment up.

Everyone basically in the US comes from immigrant families (except Native Americans which are less than 2.1% of the population). So it is really sad that we can't accept people who come from different places than our ancestors. I am fortunate that I grew up in NYC where there are basically immigrants from everywhere and there is always an opportunity to eat in Restaurants that have food from far away places (my favorite was 5th and 6th streets in Manhattan between 1st and 2nd Avenue where there were so many Indian restaurants and the food was really inexpensive).

The other issue in my head is that it is a lot like somebody who has built a tree house and just doesn't want anyone else to climb up the ladder except family and friends. So they pull up the ladder...

So Trump received the highest share of Latino and African American men of any Republican for decades because of racism?

This is what we call a basic straw man.

My understanding of why Kamala got only 77% of the black vote and Biden got 92% of the black vote was that many black men refused to vote for a black woman. That wasn't racism. That was more likely misogyny...

This is what we call a basic straw man.

You’re not applying the word strawman correctly. Me presenting a counterpoint to your argument is not strawmanning you.

It’s actually sort of hilarious to me because Trump having a better perception in the public eye on the economy doesn’t mean it’s actually true that he’s better on the economy. Actually there is a great argument that everything Trump has done when it comes to the economy has actually been counterproductive, and that he only had a good economy in his first term because he was coasting off the success of Obama.

So that you choose to make this some kind of sticking point when it’s just a fact that the perception of Trump being better for the economy is part of what got him reelected. Not sure why you even decided to argue against this. People can have that perception for entirely stupid reasons.

IF... this video's message is correct..... we are all facked!

At the end there was an empowering message on defeating Machiavellianism:

"While stupidity may sometimes gain power, intelligence coupled with moral courage remains our best hope for creating societies where merit truly matters"

So, like you said, FACKED!!!

by checkraisdraw

You’re not applying the word strawman correctly.

Yes, I am. A straw man is attacking an argument nobody made. You said "So Trump received the highest share of Latino and African American men of any Republican for decades because of racism?" as if anyone made that argument. Nobody did. That's a straw man. At the very least it's a total non-sequitur.

by checkraisdraw

Me presenting a counterpoint to your argument is not strawmanning you.

The above quote is not a counterpoint. It's an irrelevant question that nobody was talking about.

It is so lazy to use originalist interpretations of a document to determine current laws about automatic guns, abortion and political pacs when those things didn’t exist 200 years ago. Oh wait, hypocrisy alert.

My favorite was in the Obamacare debate when the law said subsidies could be provided for people who signed up on exchanges set up by the state. Originalists said that means people who signed up on federal exchanges could not get subsidies. Even though if you just asked the people who wrote the law, people in congress who voted for the law and the president who signed the law they would all say they understood that the subsidies to apply to people who signed up on the federal exchange as well. Originalism only has value when you can assign your view to people who can’t speak for themselves.

I think MAGA gets a bad wrap regarding racism. I think only a very small percentage are hardcore racists yet if you voted for Trump the left views you as such. I do think close to 100% of Conservatives are racist. Even though they are racist the vast majority of them treat minorities with respect. They will certainly make fun of them and complain about them behind their backs. I also think that Conservatives will show their racism more than liberals. Liberals obviously do a lot more virtue signaling. They make an effort to hide their racism or be kicked out of the woke club. It's hard to put a percentage of racists on the left because of this but I would expect it to be fairly high as well.

MAGA: you guys are idiots, there’s no way things are gonna be as dystopian as you claim you ****ing alarmists

Trump’s administration in THREE ****ING MONTHS

1. ICE raids
2. Leon
3. RFK claiming autism is something you catch in life and autistic people are subhuman, which is totally sad
4. Palestinian protests means deportation
5. El Salvador prisons cuz brown and convenient
6. Random impulses by el señor art of the deal that crash the market
6a. Market rebounds by clownass walking back his clownassery and for literally no other reason
7. Clownass wants to give medals of honor to women who have 6 kids which is clearly not the most handmaids tale **** I’ve ever heard in my life
8. Clownass abandons ukraine to death
9. Clownass abandons Gaza to death and condemns supporters as Hamas terrorists who should be deported which I could almost be won over by if Victor was deported
10. DEI is abolished so whiskey Pete can start signal chats
11. Secretary of education refers to artificial intelligence as A-1. Advocates abolishing department of education. With her at the head I don’t disagree
12. Clownass literally singlehandedly keeping the entire economy on a razor’s edge while devaluing the dollar because he saw something on fox and friends and wants them to say nice things about him

Everyone else: sooo….?

MAGA: well. You lost. So don’t be sore losers

Many people are trying to erect a third party. The Democrats, who just let Trump do whatever he wants like they are a Down Syndrome summer camp, have no lack of imagination or agency when it comes to destroying 3rd parties. It's nasty.

I'm only mentioning the idea once--if we got all of the dis-engaged people to toss in a 100bux and like a ~100million people kicked in we'd have a massive war chest to start with. It's appropriately called the 💯Party lol

Somebody more motivated than me go make it happen 😀

Well, I owe Luciom an apology. I’ve repeatedly mocked his defenses for why gov actions aren’t illegal by saying they were too stupid for even the most desperate gov lawyer to use.

Today, however, DHS argued that they didn’t violate an order barring them from deporting people without process because even though they detained the aliens and drove them to the airport, only DOD employees were actually on the planes….
