This is gonna come down to comfort more than anything else, trust me - I wear headphones a lot for studio engineering work I do as well as other stuff. Prolonged stints of wearing on ear headphones can get REALLY irksome, so you’ll wanna test the fit.
Guitar center has a pro audio section with some over ear headphones that are very comfortable - but I wouldn’t necessarily purchase em there it’s more so you can feel the difference between the on ear vs over ear
As far as quality: it’s all bullshit.
There are like 3 buckets:
Cheap **** (0-65$) prosumer level $65 - $200, and then serious high quality studio stuff in the $200+ range.
And then some exceptions - eg Beats by Dre are cheap **** quality with a $100 tax for marketing.
Here’s the thing you’re not mixing audio so you don’t need a flat response curve which is usually what drives a cost up you’re looking for something that is pleasing to listen to so it’s going to hype frequency rages make the low and sound maybe a little fuller than a high-quality studio monitor headphone would
every V is a Schrödinger's villian - They are the nittiest nits that ever nitted, the fishiest fish that ever fished or the maniaciest maniac that ever maniaced based solely on the specific street they're on and the specific hand they need to have for the specific occasion. they all simultanieously live within every V but - and this is extremely important - Schrödinger's Villia
Ah yes quantum strategies from recreational players or villains are of the “there are two wolves inside of me” etc types

I'm surprised there's no noticeable delay in audio. It could just be the case my sensitivity to timing is just a little greater than most due to musical training/ongoing neck deep in a world where timing things down to milliseconds of difference is noticeable to me vs casual observer say but anything that isnt DI for me is a staunch no no.
There's also a really simple way for TV setups to account for the delay where you can determine the delay introduced by various non DI network additions and send audio at the 00:00:000 but delay the video portion by a 00:00:xxx that accounts for the introduction of delayed audio signal. thats not even technologically advanced nor difficult considering the audio/video feeds are decoded and separated as is.
(DI -> direct input / basically in the signal chain directly and not piggy backing post)
but maybe the impact just isnt enough to warrant inclusion even on smart TVs. but the bluetooth world of headphone connections would certainly benefit financially from introducing a lil piece of software that slips into the signal chain. anybody industrious enough to market this slice of potential profit? i'm down to share the wealth as the actual software already exists and implementation would just be interfacing with various manufacturers of smart tvs allowing for the introduction of such a solution. and we'd only have to lobby the bluetooth headphone companies and demonstrate (easily done) a profit increase for them to do that heavy lifting part themselves.
also quick word about noise cancelling headphones - my gripe revolves largely around how the technology works and because I'm usually focused on a pure representation of audio that im hearing born of necessity for work, the usage would derail me. whereas if its just "overall audio experience without worrying about the micro distortions introduced thru use of what goes into noice cancellation" then its really just some nitpicky bullshit.
but effectively - noise cancellation operates using a external noise detection (microphone) and then a doubling of that noise profile which is then phase inverted and shifted to attenuate the exterior noise profile. Noise, of the scientific classification, is unpredictable so its not simply a set and forget and would be an ongoing processing through time.
because all sound audible to the human ear (for our purposes here) exists across a 0-20khz spectrum, when you attenuate the noise profile, you WILL ALSO affect the audio signal. its impossible to not reduce noise at a 4300hz Q band of 5.5 and not have that attenuation as a result affect the signal we're trying to hear. in other words: noise cancellation does reduce the outside noise but it also distorts the signal audio we are trying to hear to some degree.
for some, its unoticeable, for others (as you fall into the black hole of critical listening further and further) its maddening.
how did you even find this, it's not like he labeled it where it could be easily found by search
your natural talent at archivism is astounding
I remembered discussion in the old chat thread leading up to the meme about a mystical tag who limps a lot, 6-bets a super wide range, and rides a unicorn. That was enough to get me into the right general area by searching "tag unicorn," and then I just read all APD's posts 'til I found it.
Definitely. I had a situation earlier in the week where I went to have a talk to a man who had been hassling my son and his mates on the street. It got relatively heated and there was a time when I would definitely have hit him as he said some inflammatory things and he’d already grabbed two of the boys, but I was very aware of all the boys filming it and basically there aren’t
Hope the best for your son and his mates. Fkc that guy.
Reminds me of something I read recently where this guy's 16yo son was causing a ruckus outside a shop. A bystander stepped in and apparently slugged the kid. Both ended up arrested. It sounded like the kid deserved it, tbh. But, still.
nah man, funky town!

damn i definitely did not remember the dialogue to that scene properly
You're a towel.
I was a man that was ahead of the curve back in 2012… a man who doesn’t even remember making that meme.
it showed, at least some of us saw it. hope you been good dude 😀 this is my new screen name cuz i wanna hide my old one (also couldnt access the mail it was associated with but anonymity is a lil more important to me in the present day)
Trainee at a tribal so he does 7.5 /8 pen
Pit boss watching his chips and payouts so doesn’t notice cut card
Final 3 hands were +11, +12, +14 true count - this is why I’m posting because I’ve never seen it go that high and stay that high before on an 8 deck (but still very low sample size)
Pit boss is enamored with all my betting slips and actively encouraging me to bet more so obviously I go aw shucks why not and max bet 3x
Each hand dealer has a bust card and draws to 20 or 21, including a 6 on the final hand for 21
But my sports bets are going well at least
Happy Easter, degens!

i never fully explored the math/strat on count strategies but superficially, if the player is more likely to receive better hands on a high true count, doesnt that also mean the dealer would as well even if their is an increase in their propensity to bust too? eg. if we did some kind of hot spot analysis of bj dealer hands wwith a high true count when their face up card is a 10 or 11, wouldnt it hit the most at either a bust or at 20 effectively, or maybe even just shift liklely final dealer holding from:
x% stand <20 y% 20 z% blackjack
to a distribution of
x-w% stand <20, y+2% 20, and z% blackjack?
or am i misunderstanding something?
And then is a proper player strategy if/when high true count, attempt to play at least 2 or 3 spots at the table during this time to maximize against the dealer bust opportunity?
brutal results though, glad the blackjack only served as possible hedge against sports bets that went un-needed
bb yes, dealer also has a much better chance of making a very good hand
it's really heart breaking when the count is high and you max it and get 20s and then dealer has bj etc
the house advantage in blackjack is that when you both bust they win - that's it but it's a pretty big advantage
the player advantage is splitting, doubling, and getting 3:2 on bj wins while losing 1:1 on bj losses
so despite that "yes the dealer often has better hands as well" in high counts, that also means you'll likely have a made hand yourself which removes the "double bust" house advantage, seeing more blackjacks is always in your favor due to asymmetric pay, and you can make more money on your doubles because you're getting that face card more often (which is nearly always the ideal card on a double) and not just that, when the dealer shows a bust card, you can much more confidently assume the hole card is a face and the next one he'll draw too will be one as well
but again, the odds shift is minimal, we're talking like 55/45 edge, but infinitely repeatable over short bursts of time

ahhh ok ok , thank you so much - its the paid 3:2 lose 1:1 that i was forgetting about/ignoring in my back of napkin macro understanding/assessment. that piece absolutely alters my armchair assessment of profitability/purpose etc
Do you ever think it would be beneficial or increase net profit at nominal bet sizing tables (eg: caps of 100 or less per hand) with 2 people given the situation of profit split but also loss split? does that change the EV outcomes with additional layers of protection against identification of counting strategies employable with a partner?
Thinly veiled brag, finding 3:2 blackjack
dude i dont play pit games at all unless its some social obligation type reason (friends bachelor party, we must gamble on craps or some ****, im down to participate but by and large wagers inside a casino just make me frustrated due to the -ev outset proposals you are effectively guaranteed)
That said: Are 3:2 payout on BJ tables being removed or harder to find? cuz that would definitely **** over card counting and would ALSO lessen workload to spot and mitigate if we're talkin casino bottom line it appears.
Definitely hard to find on the Vegas strip these days, unless you’re playing high minimums.
Dear Diary,
watched a guy play 95%-99% of his hands get to showdown in 85-90% of them and win +3k inside of 3hrs at a 1/3 game. I tithed about 850 to him unfortunately (lol, i suck at this game) somewhere in the middle of it all he let the table know he's down almost 1/4 million on the year in cards and some much larger figure when you include the entire casino pit games. i wanted to ask him if he ever considered a different strategy of approach to the game but i didnt.
but i also i ****ed up and forgot to ask if he could hire me in whatever the **** construction company he's involved in cuz I too wanna feel completely indifferent to igniting a fraction of that number one day.
the hardest part though was the tanking on decisions because the inner monologue could only ever be something like "well if it comes runner runner i'll hit quads and win" that what really was tilting me.
but, some dudes speech play swayed me to call his unecessary shove with value and i hit a flush with my pair vs his over pair and he was really mad that i called. to which i said "well your talk game was too good" which i guess i really did level myself there with it.
Yours,
bb_love
