President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Every administration is corrupt. Every politician is corrupt.

The only reason people go into politics is to make money. Congressmen make 174k a year but when they leave they are multi millionaires.

Easy to be a millionaires after a couple of electoral wins.

Yeah, kinda funny that so far Trump has been a disaster for stereotypical maga jobs like low skill manufacturing, farming, oil etc but has created a boom for college degree based white color jobs like lobbying, law, contract writing/reviewing and futures trading.

the part about all this that really ****in irks me is the fact that Trump even gets credited as having the intelligence to pull off this great con. I cant give that to him either. I have to attribute the success of the con to external factors -> **** like romancing the ****ing evangelicals, which we clearly see now is either in a self-own con or is legitimately run by con men across the entirety of the country. i've known some pastors in baptist churhces before. they were sincere people with integrity. But you create a cult system that demands belief without evidence and you brainwash an entire population to fall for the stupidest ****ing ****.

i find the idea of "con artist" truly fascinating. it ensares both a kind of mind for advertising as well as a social intelligence that skips a few levels above the crowds. But Trump is not a good con man. But he is certainly a part of one of the most dangerous and complex cons this world has ever seen.

Dude's entire copy write for any ****ing topic is a "9 out of 10 doctors agree with me" type thing, eexcept its even more dull and pithy. its "so many people say its great" or "all these people tell me how goodly this is" .. its like people forgot how to spot a bullshitter who isnt even ****in' good at bullshitting.

Yep - they become expert stock traders all of a sudden and print money. The parties want division and they really got it this time around - anyone who blindly supports either side is an idiot. Just another pawn to pass bills for private interest groups that make a couple people rich.

Apple was more oversold than the market on the way down so recovering more than the market on the way back up is a pretty normal occurence

I would think it gets a nice spike monday morning as well

Apple was more oversold because tariffs hit it more, so it was objectively correct for it to be down more, given tariffs.

Is labor subject to tariffs? Like can IT and call center outsourcing be penalized at all?

That's... not at all how markets work lol

As a rule, no.

It's services, so it's a little different.

But Congress could pass a law requiring that customer service (for ex) was based on people answering from within the USA.

In Italy we got close to that, for now there is only a mandate to declare from where customer service is answering.

I wonder about what motivates Donald Trump.

I think it's a combo of needing his ego stroking all the time (mostly by himself), and being obsessed with showing how great he is at deals.

I don't think there's anything more in that bubble head. Everything else is people who manipulate him into doing stuff they want, by ego-stroking.

A lot of self-preservation these days.

I wonder about what motivates Donald Trump.

  • Have an unreasonably high sense of self-importance and require constant, excessive admiration.
  • Feel that they deserve privileges and special treatment.
  • Expect to be recognized as superior even without achievements.
  • Make achievements and talents seem bigger than they are.
  • Be preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty or the perfect mate.
  • Believe they are superior to others and can only spend time with or be understood by equally special people.
  • Be critical of and look down on people they feel are not important.
  • Expect special favors and expect other people to do what they want without questioning them.
  • Take advantage of others to get what they want.
  • Have an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others.
  • Be envious of others and believe others envy them.
  • Behave in an arrogant way, brag a lot and come across as conceited.
  • Insist on having the best of everything — for instance, the best car or office.
  • Become impatient or angry when they don't receive special recognition or treatment.
  • Have major problems interacting with others and easily feel slighted.
  • React with rage or contempt and try to belittle other people to make themselves appear superior.
  • Have difficulty managing their emotions and behavior.
  • Experience major problems dealing with stress and adapting to change.
  • Withdraw from or avoid situations in which they might fail.
  • Feel depressed and moody because they fall short of perfection.
  • Have secret feelings of insecurity, shame, humiliation and fear of being exposed as a failure.

it's only a disorder if those attitudes/tendencies/preferences cause the person significant emotional/mental pain and distress remember.

The manifestation of those symptoms represents the sufferer's coping mechanism to deal with the emotional pain and distress they're feeling, so if others can observe the symptoms then the person is suffering.

BBC: Trump's iPhone olive branch is a significant trade war retreat

Well, well, well.

In a US customs messaging note quietly slipped out in the early hours of Saturday, a series of numbers were listed as exempt from the 125% tariff on goods entering the country from China.

The code "8517.13.00.00" means very little to most of the world, but in the US customs list it represents smartphones.

The inclusion meant the number one Chinese export to America by value last year was exempted from the import taxes, alongside other electronic devices and components, including semiconductors, solar cells and memory cards.

In the context of the US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick just days ago announcing that part of the point of escalating tariffs on China was to bring back iPhone production to the US, this was a stunning about-turn.

The US has now excluded the single biggest Chinese export, and certainly the most high-profile finished good from tariffs, without publicly announcing it at first.

While on principle I would generally oppose this kind of move, customer service representatives whose native language is not English leave me somewhere between frustrated and very angry around 90% of the time.
They are generally so terrible that I would approve of the practice being outlawed.

Pretty funny that many of the Trumpy talking head types were seemingly trying to convince themselves that Trump would do fine. Even they couldn't say with a straight face that Trump is smart and will be well prepared for any trade talks. So Trump's advantage was that he is crazy and would be willing to do anything and suffer the consequences, while his smarter more prepared counter parties couldn't. But turns out Trump is not only dumb and ill prepared, he's also much weaker and desperate lol. Completely predictable but funny to see the ad hoc pro Trump theories get blown up so quickly by his incompetence and weakness.

by Gorgonian

This is funny, but the real deal is simple. He's destroyed the world order for everyone until every single company or country must "kiss his ass".

Which of course destroys everyone's well being except for the great orange. Obviously small business and regular people without millions are not included.

Seems like it would be a decent policy if you're trying to protect American jobs. The IT industry is kind of being crushed at the moment.

Only they're not doing so, so he's had to back off, his humiliation including the abject and obedient removal of tariffs on the principal imports from China (iPhones and other electronic goods).

is believing he's removing some tariffs on electronics, or thinking there has been solid guidance about anything, some sort of joke?

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on Sunday in an interview with ABC's "This Week" that smartphones, computers and some other electronics will come under separate tariffs, along with semiconductors that may be imposed in a month or so.

I disagree. Companies like Tesla, Apple, and Nvidia have big voice$. Evidence of this is the recent electronics exemptions.

Meaning the US economy could not afford those tariffs.
