President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

this country is so unbelievably pathetic

It is long past time for China to take us over. I mean, I have my issues with Xi, but at least he's an intelligent person who has some kind of broad political project that expands beyond personal gratification.

United States of China. Has a certain ring to it.

For those not familiar w/ the case:

So does this make trump a PANICAN

Yes, it does.

Trump gets sonned by Claudia Sheinbaum, and yet he still thinks he can do something with Xi (the guy who started from a poor and politically exiled family and became the unquestioned leader of a nation of over 1 billion).

No thanks... hard pass on that one.

Peter Navarro on Fox business news right now: "This is one of the greatest days in American economic history."

Man... I sometimes wish I had a cult. A lot of fleecing that can be done to cults.

And now the DOW is up 2000 points in the last hour in response to the 90-day pause. If that gain sticks, it will be the biggest single day rise in five years.

It sometimes feels like Trump is creating chaos just to prove that he can. Or maybe he has found some way to profit off the volatility.

Is the last part a serious statement?

I am not questioning whether he is a grifter. I was asking because he is relatively notorious for not having his wealth tied up in publicly traded equities. But he obviously could be profiting from the volatility in other ways.

Holy crap the market spiked

What? Where did you read that nonsense? He owns a freaking publicly traded media company, for God's sake. He also owns tons of REIT's, and stakes in major companies.

Congressional session right now:

Rep. Steven Horsford to Greer: "So the trade representative hasn't spoken to the POTUS about a global reordering of trade, but yet he announced it on a tweet? WTF! Who is in charge? It looks like your boss just pulled the rug out from under you. There is no strategy ... is this market manipulation?"

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck

My comment was too vague. You are correct that Trump has owned stock in things like his own media companies. He historically has not made money through speculating in the equity markets, which is what I should have said. No think thinks of Trump as a sophisticated trader of equities.

Got it... ya, I think even Trump can understand policy that will tank the market, have people buy for him when it's low, and then create news that will pump it again.

But maybe you're right, and I give him too much credit.

Bloomberg: Billionaires Bought Their Own Shares Ahead of Fresh Market Surge

Some of the world’s super-rich boosted allocations to their major listed assets amid the bedlam in global markets, buying ahead of a stock surge prompted by President Donald Trump pausing higher reciprocal tariffs on most nations.

The billionaire Persson family behind Hennes & Mauritz AB repeatedly increased their stake in the Swedish clothing giant as Trump’s tariff policies decimated markets, investing about 776 million kronor ($78 million) overall, according to regulatory filings.

Lundin Mining Corp.’s founding billionaire dynasty also spent about C$22.7 million ($16 million) increasing their holding in the Vancouver-based business on April 3. Mexico’s richest person, Carlos Slim, began snapping up $2.3 million of shares in US oil refiner PBF Energy Inc. on the same day as energy prices slumped.

And Glencore Plc’s former chief executive officer and largest shareholder, billionaire Ivan Glasenberg, added to his stake for the first time in a decade after a share-price rout.

The moves from the investors – who have a collective net worth of about $100 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index – signal how some of the world’s rich saw opportunities following Trump unleashing the steepest US tariffs in a century.

No, he just has no idea what he's doing.

This is nice and all, but we're still heading for recession and increased inflation.

First time I think he could actually be playing 4d chess.

The amount of billions he has made to his donors if he anticipated the moves to them is enough to fund the republican party for the next 50 years

Let’s not aim at trump for market profiteering directly -> kushner 2 billions fund wink wink

Wait a minute, I thought triangulation something and tariffs good.
I'm lost now.
I'm sure mong will come in a minute pointing at the stocks.

GOP is going to get decimated at the midterms.

I think this too.
Imo the damages could be far more important longer term .
Some companies and countries (hopefully Canada will not backdown) probably aim at diversify more their market and relying less on the U.S. market …..

It isn’t just trump .
This country elected Trump with a majority !
Nothing prevent the U.S. to elect another idiot in the future ….continuing trump « winning » work.

Better be safe the sorry …
