President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

It was a genuine question. I wasn't asking in a tongue-in-cheek manner. If the islands were used as a country of origin for an import previously, then having implemented tariffs on them would be more in line with their current logic and rhetoric. Would you post a link with evidence of that, please?

US trade with uninhabited islands
Probing trade connections with the island solely inhabited by penguins, the Guardian reported that while the territory has a fishery, neither are any building in sight nor human habitation. Even then, the World Bank’s export data stated that the US imported products worth US $1.4 million from Heard Island and McDonald Islands in 2022. While nearly all of these made for “machinery and electrical” imports, it remains unclear what these products were. In the five years preceding the 2022 data, imports from the islands penguins call their home ranged from US $15,000 to US $325,000 per year.

I guess it is true.

Data elaborated by an italian analyst, net approval changes for Trump after the April 2 tariffs annoucement, looks like the other poll i previously posted wasn't capturing that properly

sorry for the tone i was thinking of microbet interventions on this topic when answering.

Anyway i see you found the same source (the guardian) confirming that

China rumored to have sold 50bln in treasury to avoid a collapse of the yuan

Unlikely the reason since China would welcome a drop in the Yuan to offset the cost of the tariffs.

Someone sold a buttload of treasuries. No clue who, though.

might be false but reuters is reporting this

April 9 (Reuters) - China's central bank will not allow sharp yuan declines and has asked major state-owned banks to reduce U.S. dollar purchases, people with direct knowledge of the matter said on Wednesday.

So what's the latest take? Has Agent Orange shot 'Murica Numero Uno square in the dick or what?

this should make housenuts giddy

Make crypto crime great again!

The Trump administration is pulling back its enforcement of crypto regulations, disbanding a unit dedicated to cryptocurrency enforcement

I think this can be a smart argument to use with pro-tariff MAGAs if you have a conversation with them and the time to elaborate

Daniel Hannan
@DanielJHannan
Why do we blockade enemy belligerents in war? To hurt them, yes? To make them poorer? Can we all agree that we don't do it to nurture their infant industries?
A tariff is a way of doing to ourselves in peacetime what we do to the enemy in war.

That should work better with people who do agree with say, embargoing Cuba to punish the communists

Also we can make sock puppets and learn to do voices.

🙄

All that's gonna happen to this CEO creep is he'll become marginally less uber-rich. Who cares? Meanwhile, those further down the ladder are the ones actually getting ****ed. They're the ones getting let go, their hours cut, etc. etc. They're the ones ACTUALLY (metaphorically) getting their faces bitten off -- CEO Ed Bastian will grumble for a minute and then retire to one of his 6 remaining mega-yachts.

I hate this dumb "face-eating leopard" stuff. All of the actual malefactors in our society will continue to be completely fine. The face-eating leopard stuff is such pathetic cope.

something just happened

spy moved up 4% in like 5 mins

edit: 90 day pause

Trump blinked.

This Trump character sounds like he really knows what he's doing, I'm glad he's in charge.

CNN reports tariffs paused 90 days except China citing a verified X account Trumptariffssuck

Ya, checkout the steep climb before the announcement too.

Insane market manipulation and grift. We should demand every Trump admin's portfolios, and locate all their rat holes.

Everybody set up shop on the Heard Islands while you still can!

Insane market manipulation and grift. We should demand every Trump admin's portfolios, and locate all their rabbit holes.

I could be wrong on this but from around 1 to 4% on SPY was before announcemen then 4% to whatever it is at now was after it

so pretty big lag time from what i observed, but once 1-4% happened you knew something was coming

lol …
The press conference so hilarious for that 90 days tariffs pause from the blond press and bessent , saying trump did great in dealing and media’s wrongfully bought a false crisis etc …

Trump caved lol ….
NIce spin tho

Ya, it's overtly insider trading and market manipulation.

If only we had an actual SEC still.

So are tariffs still the key to a long overdue economic shakeout that had to happen in order for the US to avert catastrophic failure?

Or is that next week?

It's trivial to avoid the Chinese tariffs by routing the shipments through non-tariffed countries. In fact there are cities in Mexico with huge warehouses that exist only for that purpose. That's one of the main reasons Trump had a tariff on every country in the world, including those with only penguins.

Trump blinked hard. He didn't even last a day. He accomplished nothing except spreading distrust for America throughout the world.

So does this make trump a PANICAN?

In 90 days fool... did you not hear the press conference? 😉

But ya... good luck on arguing that one now. The day planner lady is suing the government, and I'm sure part of that will be challenging the Trump's admin's 77' imminent danger to the economy act.
