What's up with with pokerstars not letting you withdraw after depositing?

I accidentally deposited 20$ on them earlier (was trying to see if i could get a bonus, got none of course) and support told me i had to wager an amount equal to the amount deposited before withdrawing.

In my case i got the money out by closing my account (They are legally required to pay it out in a timely manner in those cases, at least for Swedish players) but that still took some effort due to email communication not always working (had to provide them with bank details hoping it would get through their awful support system).

Some people on reddit stated it was something they had to do against money-laundering but i have not seen any other site having something like that. My personal guess is that the main reason is them wanting you to lose your money on their site rather than withdrawing money (they make it very easy to deposit and hard to withdraw).

I did report them to a swedish authority for promising "always quick and easy withdrawals" which obviously is not the case but at best that will simply force them to remove that promise on their site with no consequences further than that. I also reported them for claiming "no processing fee" even though you are charged for exchange fees

False, this is quite common practise on almost every Site (for the reason you mentioned (Money laundering)).

Not sure if still applies but always had to wait 48 hours after a deposit as well

I did deposit 100 sek on unibet like 2 years ago to get a bonus but then i found it the bonus didn't apply to poker so i contacted CS and got it resolved quickly, had no issues withdrawing (didn't get the any bonus but it's whatever).

GG has the same policy you need to wager your deposit before you can cashout. And stars cashouts to skrill are instant so I wold say they are quick and easy. It seems you just a dumb swede.

I wonder if you can also close your account to circument the standard withdrawal rules work outside Sweden.

I was aware of that law due to using that trick twice against bet365 (they have a 400 sek minimum for withdrawals and i was only playing freerolls there).

Is this a general issue with dollar sites?

Imagine having to deal with such customers

They were the ones making the process complicated wasted both my time and their time.

Being a "good costumer" means depositing loads of money to the site that you then lose due to being a bad player.

They want people to deposit and PLAY on their site. It's standart on most sites in 2025 to rollover a deposit or p2p before one is able to cash out.

Closing ur Stars account over a measly 20 Dollars and doing that other account closing stuff to get ur freeroll winnings while living in an expensive country like Sweden.

I had no trouble withdrawing on unibet (i might send the 100 sek back to them though if i don't win anything on the next 2 centrolls there).

I like to keep my balance on each site to a minimum for safety reasons.

I like to be in profit (or at least neutral) for every individual site. I didn't want to ruin my perfect track record in that regard.

I probably would have profited from playing NL2 on pokerstars but i didn't feel like playing on my phone (i mainly use linux on desktop). NL2 is also too low stakes for my taste and the rake was too high at NL5.
