5.34 miles last night. That's gonna be the furthest run leading up to race day on Friday.

Finished with a 9:30 average pace in the 10k. My normal run times have been closer to 10:30 so that was a pleasant surprise. Not a complete shock though because the runs I've done with a run club recently have been sub 10. The adrenaline makes a difference and I always just feel the urge to pass people if I'm close behind. I stopped briefly at mile 1 and 3 for water. Wasn't planning on stopping at all but hydration wasn't great pre-race.

My right achilles started feeling a bit tight about 3.5 miles in and I stopped briefly to re-tie my shoe and try and loosen up my foot a bit. That may have cost me a couple spots but oh well. Around 4 miles I started feeling a bit more fatigued.

One tilting thing was so the 5k race started 30 minutes after the 10k - on the back-half of my race, a group of 5k runners got in front of me when they turned around at their halfway mark. So decided to pass them and upped my pace earlier than planned for the home stretch. The last 0.8ish miles felt brutal. Back started feeling sore and a couple times I thought I might puke, thankfully didn't though. Then about 0.2 miles away there was a massive headwind. Close to 20mph wind speeds I think. So that was a fun twist at the end.

Overall lots of fun and a good first race experience. Not seeing any other upcoming races that are in the evening. Plenty in the morning but not enough heart to get up at like 5am and train for a 6am race.

Splits in spoiler - not sure why the apple watch didn't log the full distance, probably wasn't synced properly for the entire race.
