Jacks multiway against plenty of fish

Jacks multiway against plenty of fish

I played this hand about 6 months ago and posted it in the Poker Beats, Brags, and Variance forums. I got what I thought was some bad advice but thought I should post it here to see what everyone has to say

1-2nl 400 max 8 handed Hero has $400 with Jacks in middle position.
V1 50ish white guy UTG with ~$160 Loose splashy and stabby
V2 30ish white guy UTG1 ~$230 Loose calling station.

UTG raises to $10
UTG1 calls
Hero 3! to $40
One late position caller.
Blinds fold and both the loose players call.

4 ways to the flop(~155 after rake) J Q A rainbow
checks to Hero who bets $50.
late position folds. UTG calls.
UTG1 shoves for $190

Pot ($445) Hero is facing a $140 bet. Hero's action?

Snap call???

Don't tell me you want to fold???

I did not want to fold. It took me longer to count out the chips than it did to make the decision. I figured I’m ahead of a lot of Villians holdings realistically only behind the straight, and I’m getting odds to draw on that.

I call.
UTG calls for less.

Pot between $600 - 700
Turn is an Ace
River is an Ace

UTG2 shows AK for quads.

I posted this hand on this forum because I was reading what I thought was insanity from the other forum.

One player told me to fold the River. Another told me to bet bigger on the turn to protect my hand. Several said I should have folded and that I deserved to lose. They also claimed that this was not really a bad beat. Wtf?

I value the opinions of the forum members on this forum and wanted to know what everyone thought.

The other posters in that thread were trolling you (posting deliberately obtuse/incorrect suggestions to try be funny and to get a reaction from you). Anytime you post in BBV this is going to happen.

Obviously you played this hand perfectly fine and took a bad beat.

Grunch:

PRE - I'd 3B bigger in a splashy low-stakes game. Nothing wrong with $40, but $50 is better, and if V1 is only starting with $160, might as well make it $60, so his choices are jam or fold.

FLOP - I think theory says we're supposed to c-bet really small. Marc Goone says we should check back or over-bet. I don't see a world where we're ever folding, so I might just jam and pray we don't get snapped by KT.

As played, and like I said, we're not folding. If V has KT, he has KT, and we're just hoping to boat up. We've got a 40% chance to do it, and the pot is laying us over 3 to 1, so...yeah, just call and let the poker gods sort it out.

Just read the rest...

UTG1 is terrible. UTG is even worse. It's just a bad beat. Shake it off.

I've never posted to that sub-forum. If the normal tradition is for people to post ironic replies, that's actually kind of funny, but I can see how it would throw someone for a loop if they were new there and didn't know what to expect.

A few weeks ago, I got my money in good, two hands in a row, as an 81.4% favorite, and a 82.4% favorite, and somehow managed to lose both hands. I should only lose both hands back to back 3.27% of the time.

You were only an 83.9% favorite here. You're supposed to lose 14.8% of the time, and chop 1.3%, so...yeah, $hlt happens in poker, bro. Cry me a river ;-)

Thank You Dan GK for letting me know that I was being trolled. I wasn't sure. It's hard to tell tone of voice and intent in text form. I have been told that some of my posts are confusing, so I thought maybe some readers thought there was still action left on the River. Also It seems like everyone is a poker expert, so I don't always know who to listen to.

You're right about UTG and UTG1. Even though I lost big on this hand, This session was one of my bigger winning sessions thanks to these two.

83.9% favorite? Is this me against UTG1 heads up? Or me against both players? UTG mucked his hand (this is just a guess) but I figured he stayed in with some kind of draw. I think he held a 10 and was looking for a King for a straight.

Interesting you mention Marc Goone. Ive been watching his videos and been asking myself If his style works at low stakes. It seems to me you have to be very skilled and very brave to try his tactics.
