The Impact of Personality Traits and Sociocultural Orientations on Decision-Making and Performance in Poker Players

Are you a poker player with at least one(1) year of experience? We invite you to participate in an anonymous psychological study examining how personality traits and sociocultural orientations influence decision-making and performance in poker. Your insights will be invaluable in advancing our understanding of the behavioural processes under uncertainty which underpin successful gameplay.
The study will involve filling out questionnaires regarding your demographic information, personality traits, sociocultural orientation, risk-taking, and finally, information on your poker performance.

The average completion time for this study is around 15 minutes. If you wish to contribute, please click the link below:

This is a formal study approved by the British Psychological Society. For more information, refer to the explanatory statement.

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

The 'what's a normal size win' question towards the end doesn't work without a time qualification. Was also confusing as you had 3 decimal points where £gbp only has two, so if felt like all the numbers were x1000.

Otherwise, not very many badly worded or confusing questions, fewer even then my autism diagnosis process.

Hello Wazz.
Thank you for your feedback.

There is no "normal size win". The four questions at the end are:

1. Please state below how many years do you actively play poker:
2. On a scale from 1 - 10, how would you rate your poker skills?
(1 - Novice, 5 – Average, 10 – Expert)
3. Please select the option that best reflects your winning frequency:
(<25%, 25% - 50%, 50% - 75%, >75%)
4. Please select the range that best reflects your average poker winnings:
(Negative (Loss), No Winnings (Breakeven), 1£ - 999£, 1.000£ - 10.000£, 10.001£ - 50.000£, 50.001£ - 100.000£, 101.000£ - 250.000£, 250.000£ +)

This is an overall timeline question. This is a single-point data-taking study.

The amounts are in thousands.

I hope my answer has helped.

That last question makes no sense. Average poker winnings over what period?

In gbp you use commas to denote 1,000 / 1,000,000 etc. The decimal always means that to the left the is the number of pounds.

Thank you, you are right. I will adjust that.

Average poker winnings for the whole timeline. (ex: age 18-40yo)

What do you mean by 'average poker winnings for the whole timeline'? You just mean total winnings lifetime, right?

Would suggest that you should disregard all the answers to that question under its current phrasing. If you mean 'total lifetime poker winnings' then say that.

I have updated the question to be better worded, as you have suggested.

If poster wazz thinks it's a good idea then I will participate in the study.

If you have any further advice, please don't hesitate to let me know.

I am also looking for more spaces to post the study and collect the samples required for publication. If you have somewhere in mind, please send me a message or post it here.

Thank you,
Theo

Pretty sure reddit will have the traffic you need, not that i've ever spent any time in any of the poker subs

I am actively posting on the subreddits. Their contribution has been ok so far.
