Francis Bacon, “Of Atheism” (1601): “A little philosophy inclineth man’s mind to atheism; but depth in philosophy bringeth men’s minds about to religion,”

All my discoveries have been made in answer to prayer.
I have a fundamental belief in the Bible as the Word of God, written by men who were inspired. I study the Bible daily. - Newton.

“The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you.” - Heisenberg.

“Though religion may be that which determines the goal, it has, nevertheless, learned from science, in the broadest sense, what means will contribute to the attainment of the goals it has set up. But science can only be created by those who are thoroughly imbued with the aspiration toward truth and understanding. This source of feeling, however, springs from the sphere of religion. To this there also belongs the faith in the possibility that the regulations valid for the world of existence are rational, that is, comprehensible to reason. I cannot conceive of a genuine scientist without that profound faith. The situation may be expressed by an image: science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” - Einstein.

Do not be afraid of being free thinkers. If you think strongly enough you will be forced by science to the belief in God, which is the foundation of all Religion. You will find science not antagonistic, but helpful to Religion. - Kelvin.

Both religion and science need for their activities the belief in God, and moreover God stands for the former in the beginning, and for the latter at the end of the whole thinking. For the former, God represents the basis, for the latter – the crown of any reasoning concerning the world-view. - Planck.

An outlook… at the vast mysteries of the universe should only confirm our belief in the certainty of its Creator.
[Scientific concepts] exist only in the minds of men. Behind these concepts lies the reality which is being revealed to us, but only by the grace of God. - Von Braun

Almighty Creator and Preserver of all things… praised be all Thou has created.
‘Let us… not set aside God’s works, but, guided by them, revere the Master! - Linnaeus

Speculations? I have none. I am resting on certainties. ‘I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day’
'The book of nature which we have to read is written by the finger of God.' - Faraday

it is HIS work… “Not unto us, but to Thy Name, O Lord, be all the praise”.
The nearer I approach to the end of my pilgrimage… the grandeur and sublimity of God’s remedy for fallen man are more appreciated. - Morse.

We take the highest and best of human faculties, and, exalting them in our imagination to an unlimited extent, endeavour to attain an imperfect conception of that Infinite Power which created everything around us. - Babbage

After the knowledge of, and obedience to, the will of God, the next aim must be to know something of his attributes of wisdom, power and goodness as evidenced by His handiwork. - Joule.

Almighty God, who has created man in Thine own image, and made him a living soul that he might seek after Thee, and have dominion over Thy creatures, teach us to study the works of Thy hands, that we may subdue the earth to our use, and strengthen the reason for Thy service; so to receive Thy blessed Word, that we may believe on Him whom Thou has sent, to give us the knowledge of salvation and the remission of sins. All of which we ask in the name of the same Jesus Christ, our Lord. - Maxwell.

It’s only reasonable if there actually is a God. Goat herder stories from thousands of years ago are not particularly convincing. I really don’t care what John had to say about anything. I’m quite capable of using my own intellect and reason; I don’t need other people telling me what to think, especially long dead ones. Now I invite you to use your own i

Beautifully stated obvious case. But the religious mind, I should say those indoctrinated in religion, don't think like that. The belief system is a given and the hell with evidence, rationality, reason, logic when it undercuts the religion. "We believe it, we believe it, we believe it ... now how can we interpret reality to be in line with the religion." Religion is in the place where a sound epistemological approach should be.
