Canadians never seemed to care about having a huge amount of their winnings withheld. I don't think they care enough for a lot to be capitalized.

You can always get those winnings back.

Here's an example of why I think some Canadian (and other non USA) pros might pass -

https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/u-s...

“every alien now or hereafter in the United States” who is 14 years or older and who is going to remain in the U.S. for 30 days or longer to “apply for registration and to be fingerprinted before the expiration of such thirty days.”

Will we see ICE storming the poker room and deporting people because they didn't go get fingerprinted after staying in vegas for 32 days?

by borg23

I'm leaning towards no. I've been there every wsop since covid for a couple of weeks and think the 5/5 to 10/25 plo games I play in are just not that good overall and a lot worse than vegas other times a year. Wait lists are also terrible (although last year got better at Aria because they had more tables than prior years), staff is stressed from working so much, it's hot as h

Do they even have 5/5 and 10/25 plo games outside of wsop? All I hear about are the nitty local regs infesting the low to mid stakes games year round outside of wsop

5/5 yes every day at Aria and a lot of the time at Wynn.

10/25 is hit or miss. It pops up randomly and then during other tournament series,March madness etc.

There are definitely a lot of nitty miserable anti social regs in that player pool. But during wsop you also get the euro infestation.

Tried playing a little PLO last summer and in my limited experience the players were extra miserable. Actually found a lot more loose and fun players in the Holdem games. I think the streaming/vlogging/social media scene has brought a lot of new players to NLHE specifically. This was at lower and midstakes, no 10/25 or larger for PLO.

Not to get in a Travel VISA pissing match but have you looked at your countries arbitrary rules ? Border agents as of February can pretty well choose to not honor a visa under the new regulations for many countries residents. That's certainly fine, your Country your rules which others should abide by. ICE in the US is fairly occupied at the moment so I'd say you are fairly safe. But you have zero concern if you simply follow the rules. I truly hope you come to the WSOP but do appreciate why you might choose not to. Your decision and I guess after the fact we can all look at the attendance #'s and see if a significant group shared your aversion.

Wait until you see the price of the egg sandwich

You eat egg sandwiches knowing you're going to be sitting in close proximity to 9 other human beings? Yowzers

Some people place their own personal values & ethics above maximizing fun.

And none of those are professional or semi professional poker players, they'd be doing something that contributed to society in a much more meaningful way.

I'm going for the first time. In my mid forties, been playing small stakes recreationally for 20+ years.

Cannot wait! Playing whatever 300 or 400 is toward the end of the series and the 1k mini main.

Canadian #'s will be way down this year, i assure you. Out of my group of 20 or so that usually go, i only know of 2 that are still planning to make the trip. Canadians are deeply offended by what Trump/Musk have said about our country.

I might go to support the Canadian contingency

by PUSATFH

As an American, I'm offended on your behalf. I rock a Canada shirt at the gym.

To the OP, I am going for 2nd straight year for my 2nd time. I live in LA area so it's not a big deal. For a recreational player i honestly would think once during the peak WSOP is enough unless you really love poker. I loved it but I've been playing 25 years and had been always looking forward to it. I'm a good player but understand my odds of winning the Monster stack or even running deep are ridiculously low. But it's the novelty plus the possibility of winning some life changing money. Don't get that opportunity very often.

I started typing a negatives list but you know what, it's the WSOP and vegas so it's a great time. Fuck it

by NoPointBluffing

I believe there's still a lot that remains to happen between now and then and I doubt any of it will be positive, although you never know.Happy to be corrected here but if I was to divide the rest of the poker playing world into groups who usually would be going and also have an impact on WSOP say prior to 2025, in this likely order1. Canada2/3. South America2/3. Western Europe

This has nothing to do with politics. Would you willingly travel to a foreign country where your phone's social media accounts could be illegally searched and if anything disparaging was said about that countries leader or wasn't in line with that leaders political party, you could be detained? No? Because that is exactly what is going on in America right now. Wake up.

Nvm, I don't watch the news. Pretty ****ed up whats going on here

No, I ain't coming. Turbulent times. Not rolled either. Or maybe skilled. Or maybe lucky.

As a Canadian who has gone 6 times I won't be going this year. The US faces a potential $60+ billion loss in its tourism sector this year and I would gladly be a tiny part of that $60+ billion.

Perhaps if no one goes, could become ME champ by being solo entrant.

this is why I am calling on ALL poker players of all skill levels, bankrolls and walks of life to BOYCOTT the 2025 WSOP. Me and Housenuts can play HU in every event and split the cash even money.

Lol so we pay entry fees. It costs us money but we ship a lot of bracelets.

That’s the fun of it.

smaller fields and shorter lines, seems like a perfect time for me to go

Smaller fields, shorter lines and still you won't win a thing. Sad.

I wish I had time to think about your country and boycott your products, the fact is I just don't. When I go into a store I buy whatever I feel like buying. When I plan a vacation...I go where I want. I don't base my life off of dumb U.S. and Canadien policies. I'm free

I would maybe come if you could give me half a promise i would witness Daniel win.

this sounds political though

When I go to a store I also buy what I want. As long as it's Canadian made. I also go where I want for vacation, just not the US. See, I am free to decide I don't want to go to the US or buy American made products.

I know you think you made a point, but you really didn't.

With that being said, good luck at the WSOP.
