President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Is there a place I can sign up for the anti-Trump cult? I enjoy a good cause.
It would also save a lot of time to not to think about the thing he did this time and almost every time conclude that he is an incompetent fraud, guided by opportunistic greed, and instead just jump straight to the conclusion. After almost 10 years, this seems like it would be more of a useful heuristic than prejudice.
"You guys" is people like you, Bigger, Freak Daddy and a whole host of others in this forum that I mostly ignore.Normal people are out living their lives working, playing sports, doing drugs, walking their dogs, and driving their kids to school-- they don't have to worry about "saving democracy" because they already saw the anti-Trump hysteria and doom and gloom of 2016/2017 an
We get it... the left and the right is the same in your book. You're a relativist. You're sitting above it all, judging everyone from above.
Just a quick question... when you have a toothache, do you head over to your local butcher to get it cut out, or do you go see a dentist? And if you see a dentist, why a dentist... isn't it all the same?
Maintaining democracy does require work, and an active and informed electorate. 2016 isn't 2025. If you had asked my opinion about Trump 1.0, I would have told you, I knew it would suck, but he was largely incompetent and would likely trip over his own feet. If you had asked my opinions about Bush sr. or jr, Reagan, they would have been the same. Not at any point did I ever think actual democracy was in jeopardy.
That's not what we're dealing with now, and if you can't see that, you're really not paying attention. And if that's the case, why spend so much time in the politics forum? Seems you should have better things to do like walk your dog, because us idiots are just wasting our time talking about the dangers that do exist in this current climate.

You are just better than all of us. You just hang around to turn up your nose and wallow in superiority.

This is well said.
Trump's comment on "transgender mice" is a nice summary as well.
You have a health study that uses transgenic mice to do research on diseases. I don't know the study in question, but it is a research approach that is legitimate.
Then you get a president and a team that doesn't understand what this means, and they mistakenly frame it as "transgender mice" in order to capitalize on a culture war they are an eager participant in. And they are in such a hurry to do so, that they can't be bothered to get things right.
Now, this research approach is suddenly in the midst of raging political battle. And yes, this battle started for incomprehensibly stupid reasons, it started because the president is lazy, because he is stupid, because he is not surrounded by clever people, and it started because his team looks for headlines rather than policy.
Now, you can ignore it of course. Which is tempting, there is little personal gain from this interaction. You'll be up against stupid politics and you'll be met with a wall of Trump supporters who repeat what they read on social media to a worrying degree. In pretty much every respect imaginable, you'll be worse off as a human being for participating. This is time spent that should ideally have been spent discussing or listening to clever people.
But there are things being destroyed by this buffoonery. Legitimate research is being dragged through the mud needlessly, people who should be allowed to just mind their own business is being attacked by the president's speech and it is legitimate to hold that the executive should hold a minimal level of insight into a subject before they trash it.
House Speaker Mike Johnson's chief of staff arrested for DUI after Trump speech
No problem! King Cockwomble will spit out pardons for supplicants, if they bow and scrape suitably and he is in the right mood.
Exactly how big do you think the federal payroll was in 2023?Here is a hint: we could fire the entire government and it would amount to 0.3% of the federal budget. Yes, that’s .0032.You guys have been so thoroughly ran through the wringer I’m starting to feel badEdit: not as bad as the national parks workers who are now homeless that drive billions in revenues more
i want to cut federal employees not to just save money from their salaries, but more to reduce regulations and increase potential employees/business owners to grow the economy. If you are trying to push a wagon across a field it is easier to do so with fewer people in the wagon and with more people pushing.
Also, from the 3 articles I found that number is around 20 times larger than your guess on what % of the fed budget is employees compensation. I’m not sure if this includes the extremely generous pensions and healthcare plans given to retired employees or even all of the current employees total compensation package, but it should.
“Compensation for federal employees cost $291 billion in 2019, or 6.6% of that year’s total spending.“
“The government spent $271 billion on salary and benefits for those workers in the 2022 fiscal year, according to the Congressional Budget Office, equal to 4.3% of total spending that year.”
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/who-are...
“Moynihan says the government spends "about $350 billion on federal employees every year, out of a $6.5 trillion budget." That represents "a tiny sliver of total government spending — just around 5% to 6%," according to Josh Bivens, chief economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a nonpartisan think tank.”

More evil petty ****, clearly because Z made him look like the total ass he is.

I assumed that this was just bad faith. But if they actually were stupid enough to believe that the word "transgenic" related to gender identity, and sloppy enough to not check if they were uncertain, that's arguably worse.

I think its a total shxt show or circus but lets keep making the trans issue the hill to die on and yes I googled what the testing on mice was for

I mean talking to conservatives about literally anything it’s very believable that the people that wrote that section are just that dumb and incurious about the world.

Let me get this straight. Pointing out that research on transgenic mice has nothing to do with gender identity constitutes making transgender rights a political "hill to die on."
How do you get there? I don't follow this logic at all.
