Brad Owen Wins $60,000 at a Lodge Tourney

Brad Owen Wins $60,000 at a Lodge Tourney

Probably been talked about before, but I really don't necessarily like the look of an owner of a card house binking a $60k payday from his own place.

I said the same thing about Doug Polk playing in their high stakes streams.

Its like being a drug dealer and getting high on your own supply, it doesn't bode well.

Hold on while I go tell Paul Phua he shouldn't play in Triton events. Who cares.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with them playing their own tournaments. Might quell the haters to tac on a big bounty or something but that is just icing

Yeah, I guess the Full Tilt scandal really wasn't that bad.

Exactly. Those guys are too busy running businesses to cheat a poker tournament.

Paul Phua is one of the wealthiest people, if not the wealthiest person in his tournaments. Lmao

He literally made a living off of making recs comfortable.

LOL. There’s always room for Jell-O. It’s like saying Male Celebrity X has so many groupies & girlfriends he doesn’t need to rape women.

At a minimum, it’s a terrible look that will cost you some customers (certainly would include me). At worst, it might put ideas in the wrong person’s head. Far far worse than an off duty bartender winning the big Super Bowl board.

“Why would they cheat when they’re all rich to begin with and are making millions running an honest site?’

I guess no more 25k buy ins for you, shocker

Cary Katz and Paul Phua enter every pokergo/triton event and no one cares.

I'm guessing a lot of players at the Lodge follow Brad/Doug socials so are probably happy to get a chance to play with them.

Also this is Brads first ever tournament win, he deserves all the respect considering the amount he's helped grow poker during his career.

You’ll have to tell me all about them.

I was undoubtedly wrong to post about something I was unfamiliar with.

Only getting outraged when people who run these tournaments actually win something from them and not the 1000 other times they played and bricked outlines how peanut brained and result oriented those who get mad at this truly are

i do think the average casual is like "wow thats cool I can play against brad"

so its more a marketing strat

Does the fact that this isn't the first tournament win for brad change your mind?
He has won at least two others, one by a chop, but he got the trophy.
Or that its not the largest tournament cash he's had?
I just think its bad optics as the business owner, and if anything is seen as shady with the business owners winning large sums, it not only affects the attitude of clientele, it could stir up the city, who, at least on one occasion, have closed a poker room due to actions by the owners, poker in texas is already in a legal gray area, operating as social clubs to get around the laws against gambling.

Ok Karen. Thanks to u Poker in Texas is now safe.

I do believe it’s generally not a good practice for the owners of the club to be playing in their own tournaments.

However, I think this is kind of an exception. I’d guess that a big reason that Brad, Andrew, and Doug thought that buying this club would be a profitable venture is because they knew they consistently attracted a lot of people to meet-up games, and that some of this audience would transfer to them playing at this club.

So playing with the owners is a big draw of the club. A lot of people likely play in these games precisely because the owners will also be playing in them. And at the very least most people enter these tournaments expecting this is a possibility.

Where was this post when Brad lost $200k or whatever on stream in two days?

Interesting development is that brad put the winnings into the freeroll apt gold tournament pool.

Which is a very smart marketing move.

So it looks a lot better that he isn't trying to profit from being more experienced and winning in house tourneys.

Putting a big bounty on your own head would just be a big angle from the house as the player with the bounty has an advantage over everyone else in the tournament.

Lets just throw around random idiotic cheating accusations for fun. What could possible go wrong?

We might end up right?

If you have a problem with Brad Owen or any other type of owner playing at their own club, I assume the biggest concern is the possibility of some form of cheating taking place? If so, that shows you have some level of concern about the legitimacy or fairness of the games at that establishment.

My question would be why are you even playing there to begin with if there's any uncertainty in your mind about the games being run? I completely understand always staying vigilant about the operation of any game you play in, no issue there. However, it seems like a contradiction to me that one would be concerned about an owner playing in their own room, yet they're willing to continue playing in that room themselves.

Even ****in Teddy KGB played in his own games
