The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

Lol. I'm sure the hoops you have to jump through to get from "we know" to "volunteer to fight in Ukraine" in your mind makes perfect sense. Maybe it's the nootropics speaking.

Ok, what did you mean by the condescending "we know" response?

by uke_master

Lol at the timbit trumpkin fecklessly trying to blame Canada for Americans declaring economic war on them.

Governments job is to protect it's citizens. If Canada can cease to exist by a stroke of a pen causing incredible, incredible pain and suffering via economic war then yes Canada and it's government is to blame.

Good thing only Trumpkins say Canada would “cease to exist”. Silly Trumpkins. Proud to have a PM who instead of that nonsense stands up and makes clear that the US can NOT have Canada.

Still waiting for you to condemn the “cease to exist” folks since you apparently pretend it’s a bad thing Trudeau said.

Ya, that X post really showed him! Why's he on X anyway, Elon owns it, only a traitor uses anything Elon owns.

If the only source you have is that all Trump and his administrator are liars and that was actually never said I'll assume Rubio is telling the truth. Especially since all we've heard the past month was tarrifs will cause so much pain and suffering.

Oh I'm sorry, was someone on the internet condescending? So sad. Clearly the only response is to fight on the frontlines in Ukraine, that will show the big mean internet bully!

Lmao.

"cease to exist" and "lots of pain and suffering" are not the same thing. You get that...right?

We can't disprove that Trudeau secretly parroted at Trump phrase and Rubio - who wasn't at the dinner - was accurately quoting him vs redefining to their own pet phrase. But we CAN call anyone who uses "cease to exist" a complete moron.

I can think of a few people who are known to use that phrase. Shall you call them morons or should I? How about we do it together now,

He’s a great hockey player and legend. Unfortunately, he became a trumpkin. That’s not the kind of person I’m keen to fawn over any more.

Wow to dislike someone just because they are friends with Trump. I would assume as he has dual citizenship he would be a republican not sure what you expect him to do vote for Kamala .

Wow Mark Carney is promising three small deficits before he balances the budget. Hmm didn't a Justin Trudeau do that ? Plus he wants to change the way we calculate deficits ? WTF

This is the pettiness that got Trump elected. I like people who don't like Trump and those who do. To be prejudice against someone for liking Trump is just neurotic.

I would instantly dislike anyone still friends with Kanye. I extend that to Trump too.

Ya know if you actually listen to him speak, he is really articulating a vision I genuinely think that you personally would appreciate. What he is saying is that government spending HAS gotten too large, the size of the federal workforce gotten to big, and that these costs are distracting away from our ability to invest in Canada AND maintain key social supports like healthcare. So he is promising a significant reduction and cost savings so the operational budget is slashed to neutral within 3 years (which is generous given current costs but whatever). THen he wants to do broad based income tax reduction so Canadians keep more of their money to invest, while also being willing to invest in key infrastructure projects federally.

That is a small c conservative vision. It's not far far right wing, like he is wanting to have a strong healthcare etc, but it is cuts to the size of government, to the efficiency of government, and ultimately to lower taxes. This is a vision conservatives have sometimes run on too. Instead of "WTF" I think you should consider that this is EXACTLY what you probably want with your value system. I actually think he is closer to you and your values than he is to me and my values. And a lot of what he is saying is a pretty starch departure from the Trudeau era liberals, I think you should have an open mind.

Diddy ?

holy **** these polls. I've been a skeptic ITT about the earlier polls as being outliers without the consensus. But now we have a number of polls showing the conservative basically blowing 20+ points in six weeks. That is seismic. I'm still of the view that the best polls for the liberals are still wrong (way too low either BQ or NDP) and poilievre wins by a wide margin, but there is now hope where there once was none.

Also worth noting that for the liberals it is better to gain over a weakening NDP than the conservatives because of the voter efficiency. The cons can run up the popular vote in alberta. It's those narrow three way races in urban areas where the liberals need to come out on top by the NDP falling enough and the center/left vote coallescing on the liberals that matter.

It's still crazy to me that given how deeply deeply unpopular Trudeau was the NDP was never once able to capitalize on it. And like fair enough, they didn't do much to deserve capitalizing! Just yes manned Trudeau, and seemed really tone deaf and policy shallow under Singh. But still!

theres degrees of magnitude of a Canadian who likes trump and an American who likes trump. I have many american friends who support trump. but if they were Canadian I would probably disown them

Carney has said versions of this in various press conferences etc, but this ad is sort of the cleanest most reductionist for the every day ignorant person version:

I think it's going to play well, I think that kind of cutting operational costs so we can invest more messaging while still way over simplified is something that people can identify with.

I dunno. This is interesting because if the Liberals give more rope for Trump to hang himself, things keep getting better for them. And we haven't even seen the craziest out of him here.

Yes and we can say that about Epstein and Weinstein .
Why are folks still associated with. Bill Clinton or Bill Gates.

I personally find what Trump did with his university and stiffing trades on his projects as reprehensible.

I don’t remember you ever criticizing Trudeau for a bloated government and inefficient government.
So he is campaigning on doing what Elon is doing

The NDP could not capitalize on it as they propped up Trudeau to long . It’s also the reason Carney is surging in the polls at the expense of the NDP

The question will be does Carney call a quick election

Let me put it this way. It is quite easy to say "bloated and inefficient". And I've been around the block enough to see many, many past leaders (conservative and liberal and ndp alike) run on a platform of cutting said bloated and inefficient governments and that this will magically unlease untold billions that balance budgets by themselves. Heck the CURRENT liberals have been in a belt-tightening phase on the public service for 18 months now and actually slowing growth. However, in practice this has always seemed MUCH harder to actually do. It's one of those things that is easy to support at a high level but details really matter here. So sure take Elon, I think most people support the general idea of government being efficient and eliminating waste and fraud, and on the "pro" side Elon looks like he actually might be able to move the needle against the problem I mentioned before of governments failing to actually accomplish much cutting. But, he is doing it in what appears to be a really harmful and ideological way and redefining as "waste" things that actually make series of small improvements to society.

With that said, when I've heard Carney speak about his plans to cut the bloated and inefficient government, he speaks about it in a pretty sensible way. For instance, he made a point the other day I really liked, about when the government invests money into the economy in one way or another it should primarily be done in times where a bit of government money unlocks a big multiplier of private investment that is what actually grows the economy, as opposed to transfers of money that the government spend but don't get a force multiplier. That's sensible.

So my thought for you is just to say that really he is espousing a vision that I genuinely think YOU would actually value. So listen to him. And reflect.
