Boo hoo hellmuth. Poker IS an endurance test of patience, he always bragged about it. I played the Monster Stack last year and busted 3 hands before end of the night at 1215am, we started at 10am day before. Was I mentally defeated? Pretty much. But I can't say that's an excuse to not play and ask for rule changes. It's fair to all.

Fwiw, I believe the days are ridiculous but they decided to give out 60k in chips which is unnecessary. If they just went back to 20 or even 30k in chips to start I believe it might help fix things. He should at least come up with a solution of sorts if he's going to complain. It's still 2 hour levels, it's a great structure either way and i support that.

I think he’s either angling for some extra days off post-Day 3, or perhaps change to only 4 levels played per day instead of the current 5 levels per day. Of course either would make the tournament longer, but I could get behind changing to 4 levels per day (instead of 5), that’s still 8 hours of play and with breaks and dinner you’re at ~10 hours total already.

lucky for him he can skip 7 levels and still play

Can't please everyone. Does he want to make the structure faster or each day shorter but the total number of days higher? He doesn't suggest how to "fix" it. Shortening the days at the start is a bad idea.

It already takes until "tournament day" 4 (more calendar days) to make the money, could not imagine shortening the days, at least pre-money, it would take 3 weeks to play the event.

Maybe start the main at the beginning of the series. Run Days 1-3 each week of the world series, then combine everyone left after each day 3 into 1 combined day 4 in july, with the final option for days 1-3 to be right before the combined day 4. Not sure if that would even work or if you would get a lot of early participation.

I think the WPT did this a few years back for some event.

To speed up the levels, how about 60 minutes for day one, 90 minutes for day two, then back to the normal 2 hour levels. Too "turboish" for you? Maybe 90/90/120 or whatever.

That wouldn't work as people are using vacation time plus funds for the trip as they reside hundreds or thousands of miles away.

Don't change the structure, just give some days off, that seems reasonable.

on another note I like the battle for the ages event I will probably have to fire that one for funsies. Cool idea to separate fields by age and then converge later on

I agree with Phil on the problem, I disagree with him on the solution. The solution is to do exactly what said he was going to do: Not play.

I see no issue in admitting that you do not have the stamina to win the world championship in 2025.

You should always pass on events where you don't believe you have a legitimate chance to win for X, Y and Z reasons.

I’m not flying half way around the world twice, nor am I hanging around for 8 weeks
So this doesn’t work for me.

I’m 58, had a 17 hr flight to Vegas in 2023. Got off the plane with no sleep, jumped straight into an event at midday with 5,500 runners, bagged at about 1.30am, got 2 hrs sleep, played day 2 next day and busted the final table. Played 10-14 hr days for the next 3 weeks straight on about 3 hrs a night sleep until I busted the main. I could have easily kept going.

Flew 17 hrs back home, got off the plane and went to work (though tbf worked from home that day)

I didn’t drink or take drugs.

Man up Phil.

I wasn't suggesting people need to be there for weeks or leave and come back, the final set of days 1-3 would be the same timeframe as they are now,.

Poker is just like every other sport and its wise for people to bow out of events when their fitness can't handle it.

John Hesp was the chip leader at the final table and could have won the whole thing if he doesn't run into a cooler of top two into top set. Hesp is older than Phil.

Phil claim to fame is his record # of bracelets. He can play in more events if he skips the Main and give himself a better chance of padding his bracelet count.

Battle of the Ages Over 50 / Under 50 No-Limit Hold'em

Battle of the Ages Over 50 / Under 50 No-Limit Hold'em

Are there any details on the Battle of the Ages Over 50 / Under 50 No-Limit Hold'em Event ?

2 day event
Oldies play the morning flight so they can get to bed.
Youngsters play evening flight so they can sleep in

20k SS
30min levels
2 re-entries

Merge on day 2.

Probably standard wsop structure

MAIN EVENT is more than fine. its perfect tbh

I do agree that any CHAMPIONSHIP event should dbe 1 and done. no rebuys

I like the idea of a day off around day 6, there's no reason not to have a day off.

Doesn’t change much for me. I’ve had day 6 off every time I’ve played the main.

Can UK players play online for a bracelet whilst in the UK?

What exact site?

Any news on what other series will be running at other casinos? I am a mixed game player. usually play one $1,500 WSOP event such has HORES or Omaha 8 and then a few smaller events at other places such as the Orleans, Wynn, Venetian or Golden Nugget in $250-$800 range.

No other series have been announced yet. Every year Kenny Hallaert puts together a cool spreadsheet will all the combined series, he adds the others shortly after they are announced. So far only WSOP is on there.

Thanks for sharing it, will be super useful

Thank you and Kenny. Hope you both run well this year.

Hopefully people like Nacho Barbero and Ebony Kenney will be banned from the WSOP. Cant get more clear evidence of RTA use.

The potential of getting banned from the biggest live series would be a serious consequence that would have would be cheaters think more than twice.

i srl don't understand why PH's complaint gets so much attention ... it's one guy, saying something, done.

and there's a very high chance he's not even serious about it, just doing this bc he's clearly also a publicity whore

yes. the main is also an endurance contest (besides for a lot of other things), but that's also the reason why it's so tough to win and so valuable after you won it.
