New York City Area Hype Discussion
Did a quick check but apologies if this already exists, also might be a little premature either way but- given the movem
They expect to award licenses by the end of the year, then we would still be a couple years away from an opening, even though NYC is the biggest betting market in the country (if only it was run by people who realized this).
So assuming the one that opens has a poker room, that would make it a 7 year hype thread which should be a record.

Isn’t there a required large capital investment as part of getting a license?
Any infrastructure changes will be structured to get slots up first, then tables with poker a much lagging third. IOW, poker would be the last thing added to e siting facilities.
New facilities would likely open with poker, if they intend to have it, but these would likely be two yrs from license grant to finslmfacility opening. Now might have a temp facility but that might not have poker.
Imo this process is not almost over. Lots of hurdles that will slow things down. Those who don’t want it are going to lose but they can keep fighting.

I’m not positive they have to complete the capital investment upgrades before opening though. Could definitely be wrong but I can imagine RW/EC getting the license and being able to open while construction on the overall resorts are still under way.
I also understand the conventional wisdom that poker is an after thought, but a big part of the possibility of no poker is usually a conversation about space, which isn’t an issue at any of the proposals. They’re all basically slated to be among the biggest in the country if they get green lighted .
Your last point is my biggest concern, general corruption and communities (justifiably) dragging their feet.
Still hopelessly optimistic cards hit the felt next summer

My point is that sure these will be large casinos but given the costs they have to generate lots of revenue. So while they are expanding the space will be optimized for that. Poker will wind up in the expanded space not the initial space.

Willing to admit I’m probably overly optimistic, but I’d say it’s very likely at least 2/3 of the casinos have a poker room, and then at least one of the poker rooms is open within 6 months of the table games launching

It literally would make no sense, nor do I think any of these political critters would do it, to delay tax dollars coming in ASAP.
I think you see you both of those above mentioned casinos open up as full-fledged table game casinos within the year of getting a license. Whether or not they have poker is a completely different story but it won't be that much trouble to put a bunch of tables in there and some more slot machines.
It’s on topic..
There’s nefarious reasons behind why these politicians slow down these projects.
Neither your comment nor the link you provided are on topic. International politics, even such involving Hochul, are not on topic for a state poker license discussion
Your claim otherwise is just as much unhinged as your original comment. Conspiracy theories are not necessary to explain delays. Take it to the political forums.

More bad news on the online front :(

Very possible one of those, if not both dont get picked. But it would make the most sense to give two of the licenses to those two spots
I guess the mods are asleep
I'm not sure if anyone is reporting posts (rather than just arguing in the thread), but there is now only one mod in Venues, and he is relatively (if not completely) inactive.
I just checked and saw only one post report in the last week, from you, from today. So maybe don't blame the moderation.
In any case, I raised the issue that we have no active mods here, we'll see what happens.

I did report the first off top unhinged post, but point taken. I understand this is an unpaid thankless job, so thank you

Trouble no but that's a different issue than it being worth it for them.

LOL. While your theory of taxes asap might have merit (long term it is actually a very minor optimization input), to think that pols are thinking like that is really hilarious.
Quite the opposite is more likely. That is the longer pols can drag it out the longer they can milk the money train for personal gain. Once the political process is over the window to extract from the bidders also closes. These extractions might be legit and legal, like getting concessions to help the residents or corrupt and illegal, but regardless that window is largely shut once licenses are awarded.

I'm not sure how you would need more time than they've already had, so your theory also doesn't make a ton of sense, either
This has been going on for an eternity already. All the deals have been struck and very likely, the casinos getting the licenses have already been determined based on reasons like you listed, how to milk the most money out of these operators
Citifield one step closer, still doesn't have Ramos' support, but seems like there are other paths to getting it done. Looking like RW, EC, and Citifield 😃

As long as the winners are not decided and announced, pols can always say ‘ well for xxxx I can do yyyy to improve your chances at a license’. As long as that company believes the pol can do what he says and that doing such improves their chances more than the cost, they might consider doing it.
This can go on forever or at least until bidders decide it just isn’t worth it.
lol at speculating what corrupt government politicians are doing to hold back these projects.
Is it a derail if I mention how these people make like 200k/year and end up multi millionaires?
Interesting article. I was under the impression that Jessica Ramos saying no on this was going to stop this, save for the Governor overruling her and getting the state legislature to push through approval of the land. This article makes it seem like not the case?
Perhaps the Citi Field casino still has a chance here. HY seems to be dead. Times Square seems to have too much opposition. Same with Coney but to a lesser extent
Haven't heard anything about the UN site or the Bronx site in a while but I think they're long shots anyways

So as I understand it, City Planning Commission has approved it, now they need city council to approve it and they usually defer to the council person representing the specific area who in this case is a strong supporter of the project. Then in terms of the Park Alienation Legislation, it needs to be proposed in state legislature. Ramos in the State Senate is strongly opposed, but the assembly person is in support, so it can be proposed in assembly, and then it has to pass both assembly and senate which raises the question can it do so with Ramos standing against it?
The application is due June 27, 2025 but the above process has until September 30, 2025 to complete. Community Advisory Committees also have until September 30, 2025 to approve or reject proposals and send them on to the Gaming Facility Location Board for approval or rejection by December 1, 2025, and finally if that happens the gaming commission is supposed to approve licensure by December 31, 2025.
And then regarding the GFLB....

Looks like the GFLB just lost a member and it's apparently not the first time since this process started. Beyond that we still have this knucklehead as a key part of the process since he's still Mayor...
My outlook has gotten worse significantly lol, I think the best we can hope for is Resorts World and/or Empire City get the nod by year end, but seems overly optimistic to assume all three licenses are awarded this year. I would say it's probably a favorite for this to get pushed at least another 6 months if not a year, even without any truly devious corruption.

Indirectly related but seems like Addabbo pushing ahead against the sweepstakes sites despite the outlook for online casinos and pokers being basically 0 for this year

I'm sure you saw that the City Council did approve it yesterday?
Honestly, as long as we get one casino with poker that gets a license this year, that's all I really care about. The 3rd one likely is going to take a minimum of 2-3 years from getting a license, anyways.
Will be interesting to watch the 3rd play out, though.
I feel like the political climate and the potential of losing more federal funds has probably strengthened Resorts World and Empire City's chances so the state can start getting money ASAP
